Hi

Since I collect b&o stuff , I met many b&o fans and I was surprised to see that they often drive a Porsche or have driven a Porsche in the past.

I wonder how many beoworlders are in the same situation.

My transport is a £200 bicycle. Although... I would love an old 911, even though I couldn't fit my bass in it :)

Last time, I discussed with a b&o fan who owns a Porsche carrera 4 , a model from 1996 or 1997.

He paid it around 20 000 euros secondhand.

If he told me that the car was nearly brand new, I would say , yes maybe !

Because the 911 design is timeless and I don't know anything about the differences between a 911 from 2008 or 1997.

He told me that he was amused to see people who own cars that costs 3 or 4 times his car, looking to it with admiration.

That generation of 911 is still very desirable. Timeless.

I currently have a 88 944 that I tirelessly went through. While it is a beauty (at least to me), I still want a 911 preferably an older one, but I just stopped putting money into the one I have and I have to admit not working on it all the time is really enjoying and my bank account thanks me too! Although now that attention is being wooed by B&O yet again..... the saga continues.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

I've had a few..

My most cherished Porsche was a 1980's 911 Carrera in Black. Fuchs wheels, whale tail..  lovely car. You felt like you'd been wrestling a crocodile after you'd done half an hours country lanes at speed!

My favourite was 3 years ago, when I had a Cayenne GTS. Did everything I needed as a 'family car' and went like stink if you needed it to. It also had a funky 'sport' button which made the exhaust bark like a dog..  LOL

I see a lot of B&O owners when delivering though as I go to their homes and see them on the driveway, and from my experience most of them drive either Mercedes or BMW's.  Maybe buyers of new equipment go for Porsches?

The more I see this 911, the more I love it.

Since, I learned we can find some model around 20000 euros, I wonder if my next car won't be an old Porsche.

I will probably create the first B&O Porsche club.

Imagine driving your beautiful Porsche with your favorite Pentas :)

A Lambo is not a car, it's a kind of UFO.

You should come from another planet if you "drive" this. Big Smile

The last one I had was OK.

The second-to-last one I had ... I had for less than 24 hours.

The third-to-last one went back to the dealer after ~3,000 miles.

Any before that were varying mixes of the above.

No need for a radio in a 911. Just listen to that flat six.

As a fan of quality old Mercs are still top of the line from my point of view but Porsches are also pretty well-built cars. Still way too much money for a car. There's nothing that burns money like cars do - especially a) expensive premium cars and b) cars that are either manufactured in England or Italy Stick out tongue or c) even worse: both like Lambo or Jaguar for example. If you can afford driving those you better be rich so that you can afford the maintenance without having to make too much compromises at the expense of the more important things in life. Still cool cars though. Would have always wished to own a Countach one day but that's pretty far away, considering that you better take it to a mechanic every time before and after a ride and not to mention the regular super expensive maintenance that has to be done. Porsche probably is a very good compromise between quality, affordability, fun, value and style.

Yes. Since 1965.

Bang & Olufsen, Porsche, and Rimowa.

All good investments, although some models are certainly better than others.

for Germans who are so renowned for their brilliant efficiency the 911 has always seemed a conundrum to me

the engine's in the back where the luggage belongs , so at the front ? the spare tyre !!!??

Oh man, that Austrian accent is just absolutely beautiful! Love it!

To add to the conversation, I was really pondering getting a 944 (the only one I could really afford or motivate bar the ugly 924) although the dream car would be a Carrera 4S but time went by and now I have a one year old son and a 15 year old Volvo... I guess that's life. Perhaps in twenty years I'll get back to the Porsche idea. The Volvo is excellent btw, swallows any amount of stuff and runs like new, wouldn't trade it for a 2(ish)-seater at this stage.

Nope. Volvo XC70 for me. Need the space for work and play, and love the Scandinavian interior. Not going for flash cars for a while. B&O, and designer furniture all comes first, along with travel. Love fast cars though!

The idea is quite simple really... Put the engine where the traction should be, close to the rear wheels. Porsche originally wanted a mid engined car but decided against it. He needed a small back seat as he wanted his children to enjoy the ride too. As for efficiency. Just compare a 911 to it's competitors. A 964 is shorter and narrower than a Honda NSX yet it had more useable space inside. I don't know the exact dimensions but the same must be true for today's 911 and it's competitors. And who needs luggage space in a car like this anyway?

Had a few over the years 944 s2, 964 targa,996 turbo and cayenne turbo,I have done the porsche thing, but still have a 2008 3.4 boxster s,which is a very underated car,and not a poormans porsche, the handling is fantastic.

I like the gt cars now, for everyday currently a 6.1 brabus and a  maserati quattroporte, love v8s.

I read that this car was originally built this way for only one reason :

No need of luggage space, because this car was initially used by german drivers who just wanted to place their money in Switzerland.

It was too easy for customs to find their money in the back of the car.

They always said to them : Hey who needs luggage space in a car like this ?

One thing in this video I don't like is pushing the car backwards out to the street. Or does the driver see enough of the street without extending his neck a few yards back to see the traffic outside?

In this case Ferrari, Porsche and the 2CV share the same problem ...

The Porsche 911 is the only sportscar impressing me, even when I am too bad a driver to use such a car. (I am missing some €€€ too).

This guy would fit well into the workbench part of this forum.
