I bought an old avant 32 vcr, good sound, great picture.

When I connect a dvd or setup box using scart 2 or 3 , I get green horizontal lines somehere in the middle.

When using THE scartconnector from THE build in vcr it is ok.

Does anyone know what I could do ?

Thanks

Is it like green sparks/ flashes or lines from left to right but not entirely horizontal ?

maybe you can place a photo, would be helpfull...

Hello Paul,

The avant is in my summerhouse, so I can t take à photo right now.

The lines are not sparks or flashes, they are horizontal with à light variation in the height position.

Sometimes when I start up it is ok or nearly not visual, slowly they come in, sometimes visual from the beginning. On the scart used for the build-in vcr it is ok, Same scart cable used.

Thanks Martin

Hmmm..the description reminds of a faulty tube, are you sure about the scart difference ?

isn't that a coincidence (as the lines tend to appar after warming up).

simple test: after letting the tv warm up for some minutes,

make a black screen by either chosing a not connected scart or vtr but with the scart cable removed.

than see if the lines appear on the black background....

What type of Avant is it ? (8400, RF..... ?).

It is 'flyback lines'.

Could be a sign that the tube is 'dying' - but sometimes it can be adjusted.

Common on old CTR tv's. Try to Google *flyback lines' -or search here on Beoworld.

Thank you for the replies,

It does not look like the typical retrace or flyback lines.

It is just one horizontal green line on 2/3 to 3/4 off the height.

Sometimes it differs à bit in height and thickness.

For sure it is not there on scart1, even when I connect the same sourcekeand cabl

Ok, than probably somewhere beteween that scart (rgb input, green) and the switch (IC itself ?)  on the av board it goes wrong.

a board swap is a hard ine, the av board with the scarts also contains the cpu.

if you're comfident working on tv's, try and start by checking for bad solderings in that area (tapping boards and see what the picture does).

maybe use the cinch inputs (behind the red clock display, sometimes covered by a piece of plastic)?

of course this is cvbs and not rgb...
