Hi everyone, looking for some advice on servicing my bs 9000 mk3.
It is going in for a laser replacement shortly but I'm also concerned that the carriage is moving in a very juddery and noisy way. When moving at speed there is a noticeable thump-thump-thump sound. And when the clamper picks up the disc there is a really loud clicking sound.
I am pretty sure that the unit didn't use to be this noisy. It is wall mounted on a hollow (stud) wall, so that might be exacerbating matters. .. but still!
Has anyone encountered a similar issue before? Is there any maintenance (cleaning, lubricant, etc) you can suggest?
thanks in advance for your help!
My MK1 (from 1996) is making similar sounds, almost as if the carriage is brushing against the CDs as it passes over them. I believe there are two potential causes of this issue.
First, CDs left in the trays over long periods of time may warp slightly and bump into the passing carriage because they are no longer flat. I confirmed this by swapping out old CDs that had been in there for years, and the noise was greatly reduced or stopped altogether.
Second, if you used your 9000 in a horizontal position for a long period of time, the plastic wheels or rollers of the carriage may develop flat spots, much like tires on a car left in storage too long. The flat spots will cause thumping sounds as the carriage rolls along. The weight of the carriage will do this on horizontally mounted BS9000 units over time, so I always recommend mounting them vertically and only buy used units that were mounted vertically by the previous owner.
All of this is fixable though. Good luck with the servicing. I'm sure it can be solved.

If the ticking noise is made at every cd, then you have to replace the lever at the bottom of the carriage.
That is, if the springs are set correctly of course.
The lever at the bottom is slightly bend, but not visibly noticable. The lever drives the lasermechanisme with the spindle motor up and down. It's the spindle motor that touches the cd's .
Costs are only a few euro's.

Boy I sure wish someone would have replied this to MY thread a couple of weeks ago when I asked the exact same question. Had I known there was a bent lever I would have known what to fix rather than just looking blindly to see what was making the spindle motor contact the CDs and then I sold it as-is... As Millemissen would say... Grrrr!
Hi, looking for similar help, cleaned the laser and unit does not pause anymore also the drive when changing discs is much quieter but on disc 6 only there is a bad noise like the disc is not in straight or something, changed cd,s with no change to the clicking noise. cd 6 continues to play but the noise is awful. anyone else have this issue? please help. thanks
