Beovision 11 and DLNA 'refresh'

Hi

I have a library of files on a DLNA server. When I add media to the server and then index these new files on the server, the changes are not reflected in the (cached?) lists shown on the television. The only way I've figured out to get the databases synchronized is to turn the networking on the television on and off and then reconnect to the DLNA server. Is there a 'refresh DLNA' or 'clear cache' button on the television that I am missing?

I've experienced the same problem. I thought first of all that the TV couldn't 'see' certain kinds of files on the server.

Anyhow, things eventually sort themselves out after the TV and server have been off and then on again - but it would be good to know if there's a better way round this.

Are you using Windows Media Player?

In that case you might want to consider another 3rd party DNLA-server that rescans your library every x minutes, or watch content directories automatically for new content without the need for rescans. For example, Twonky will do the job. Another option is using a decent NAS, like Synology or Qnap.

 

I think DoubleU is correct. I have tried different software's and have had varying results. The best I've found is TVmobli as they allow you to set scan intervals for the folders your sharing. Vuze also shares pretty easily if your BitTorrenting.

I use a Synology Diskstation (recommended for loads of other things as well, including a networked DVB-T/T2 recorder). This has a built in DLNA server and I have it configured so that it re-indexes according to a schedule. I can also ssh into the box and manually add files to its database via a command line so I know that it is completely up-to-date. These changes appear immediately on other DLNA clients I use e.g. a 'smart' blu-ray, ipad, pc, etc. but do not show up on the BV11 client unless I 're-initialise' it some how. I have done this by either turning the network off and on or by turning the television off and on. These are not elegant solutions hence the original question. The BV11 probably needs to poll the DLNA server a little more regularly or perhaps once you navigate to the top level of that server's directory structure as viewed on the BV11.

 

Sorry to hear about the DLNA issue. Perhaps B&O will add a software update to rectify this issue.

I saw it last week for the 1st time and thought it to be the prettiest TV ever made by B&O and brimming with new features especially the smart functionality.

@Jonm27 have you tries simply pressing the hard button you have associated with the Homemedia button? I tried this last night and it did refresh on my V1, I haven't tried it on the 11 however they should be the same one would think. 

Yep a smashing TV overall.

The only other issue I have had relates to the 'Smart TV' functionality. There is a (recognized) problem with the Youtube App:

which is still to be addressed. The Smart TV aspects are poorly realized in my opinion. It looks as those these components come from TPVision (at least that's my reading of the terms and conditions) who are part of this:

I think TPVision also has had/has a connection with Philips. There also appears to be some sort of signing in procedure since I have received an error just the once that said something like 'smart tv signing in error please turn tv on and off.' On and off at the mains doesn't do anything and I have had to reset the tv by reselecting my country of residence to get this sorted. Anyway I would be interested to learn more about  this signing in procedure.

Apart from my DLNA issue and the Smart TV functionality the picture is stunning (not that I'm an expert in these kinds of things).

@BeoMegaMan - yep tried all that you suggest including re-assigning buttons on the Beo4 remote and selecting the source on the on-screen menu. No joy.

Sorry for being off-topic - but, could you please tell me/us which "networked DVB-T/T2 recorder" you are using?

I don't know of any USB-T2 tuner.

I have a Synology DS211j and plugged in a PCTV Systems dvb-t2 290e USB stick into the front USB port. After experimenting with DVBLink and Videostation on the Synology box I ended up using TVHeadEnd to access SD and HD channels. Recording and playback using the DS211j box through DLNA to the BV11 works like a dream on my network provided you don't select mkv as a wrapper for the HD stream. Not that I understand the details but its something to do with how a HD stream is encoded relative to a SD stream. I found Videostation a bit buggy and spent too much time trying to configure DVBLink. I also used a powered USB hub just in case there was a problem with power. I suspect performance will depend on the network configuration, router, what else is running on the NAS etc.

It's not really off topic because this is how I found out about my DLNA issue. I was recording a program and having it save in a directory associated with the DLNA server in the hope that once the recording had finished it would magically appear in HomeMedia on the BV11. All works super until the last step!
