Hi. I bought a beolab 7-2 and a beovsion 7-40 2nd hand (from different dealers). The beovision is working fine but the beolab 7-2 is dead. I've choosen the beolab 7-2 as "centre 1 speaker" in the menu and I plugged it into the centre 1 plug.
How can I find out if the speaker is damaged? One thing I would like to mention. I found a manual in the internet and it says: "The socket marked ~ is for mains supply input (connection from the wall outlet), and the other is a mains supply output to BeoVision 7 (this socket is not available on loudspeakers intended for the USmarket). " Because I do not have the second socket I think I have a model intended for the US market.
Could this be the problem? I live in Germany...
Thanks for you answers!
Best regards, Uwe
You should check the model number to see if you have a 120v speaker or 220 v. If you have a 120v unit plugging it into 220v will probably damage the amps. Have you connected a seperate power cord to the speaker already?
Thank you for the answer, expoman! And yes, I already plugged a cable into the speaker... The type no. is 6213 and the serial number is 195.292.39. Does anybody know if this is a 120V speaker?
The Beoworld files for the Beolab 7-2 give the 220-240 volt version as type 6210 and the 110-120 volt version as type 6212 with no mention of a 6213. Suggest you check the type number or see if there is a voltage listing on the speaker near to the power supply input socket.
Ron
just found a service manual on the internet. it lists the type 6213 as 220V speaker. and the 6214 as 120V speaker. So I'm really happy to read this. But it's still not working. How can I find out if I did a miss-config of my tv or if it is damaged? Any help appreciated!
In the small space at the back of the speaker where the mains and power link sockets are, there is a small rubber bung. If you flick this out you will see a small LED. This will glow red when speaker is in stand by and green when it is switched on. If it is not lit at all, the speaker is dead and will need repairing.
Opman
Thank you Opman! This was very helpful. I found the LED and it glows red. The interesting thing is that the color changes to yellow when I switch on the beovision 7-40. The power consumption stays on standby level...
Are you using the 7-2 as a center speaker (with further BL's in the setup), or as the main speaker?
Which MK is the 7-40?
Which MK is the PL cable?
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Hi Millemissen. I use the 7-2 as main speaker. The 7-40 is the MK 3. I don't know which MK the PL cable is, but it has a triangle on its plug.
The 7-40 speaker types menu is configured: CENTRE 1: BEOLAB 7-2 / SPEAKERS: NONE, NONE, ...
The Powerlink plug with a triangle on it indicates it is a mark 3 cable which is fine.
Do you have any other B&O equipment such as an audio system that you could test the Lab7.2 with?
I do have an an Avant 32. Do you think I could plug the 7-2 into the Avant?
The Avant 32 will have surround sound so you could try connecting the BeoLab7.2 to one of the powerlink sockets for "front" speakers and configure in the Avant set up menu.
If it works on the Avant the fault lies within the BeoVision7 40.
Good luck
Thank you Opman. I will be able to test it middle of next week and I'll let you know the result. Again, thank you all for your help. Great forum!
I was able to test my speaker on the Avant. When I configure the speaker (bealob 7-2 is not available, but several other speakers) and turn on the Avant the LED switches from red to yellow. So it seems to be the speaker. Does anyone know what the yellow color means? Does someone have an idea what the repair cost might be?
Any help appreciated!
Hi Uwe
I'm not an engineer so I have no idea what the problem may be inside the speaker. At least this test confirms to you that the speaker itself is faulty, not your BeoVision7.
I think the best way forward is to contact your local B&O dealer and try to speak to an engineer who may be able to give you a guide on how much the repair will be.
I hope its worth doing as the BeoLab7.2 is a great speaker.
Hi Opman, I already talked with my B&O dealer today and he mentioned that an amplifier might be damaged. He will investigate and do an estimation of cost. I'll keep you posted...
Hi Opman, Hi all,
just wanted to give you an update. I took the speaker to my local dealer and he repaired it. He had to exchange the main pbc, the ice power amp and a filter. Cost was 718 Euro (including German VAT). The speaker is working fine now and finally I'm happy. It's a great speaker.
Thanks for the update. It;s always nice to hear how a problem is resolved. Glad that you now have a functioning speaker. I'm sure that you will get many years enjoyment from it ;-)
