I have a very recently resurrected RX-2 with MMC3 pickup. It feeds into my system via a Rane PS1 phono preamp. The PS1 has three options for cartridge loading: 100pf, 200pf, and 450pf.
I see three conflicting recommendations for setting cartridge loading. Benny Amina, the gentleman who repaired my RX-2, told me to keep it to the minimum. According to Soundsmith recommends 100pf. According to Vinyl Engine's database, ~400pf.
More importantly, perhaps, what should I listen for to determine the right setting? Is it a level difference, a spectral balance issue, phasing, or something else entirely.
Either I'm missing something, or Benny and Peter recommend the same setting. They would both know.
Benny has done at least 10 repairs for me, and I recommend him all the time. I hope you had a good experience with him.
I have 3 RX2 decks and have never had a problem with one. What happened to yours?
B&O used 150 pF!

Nothing at all wrong with Benny's repair. Benny changed my belt and replaced a cracked gear in the cueing mechanism for what I believe to be a reasonable price.
My question is more of a "now that it's home and working" issue.
I don't remember what I had set my previous phono preamp's cartridge trim to (an old HK PM655 integrated that I was only using as a phono preamp) to, but previously I had also used the MMC5 rather than the MMC3 currently installed.
What sonic changes should I expect with different cartridge loadings? I haven't had much time to experiment as of yet.
