Yes it should of had Hdmi not Dvi ect.
Mind asking why?
DVI is the same as hdmi without digital sound.
The BS5 has a better digital/analog convertor than average. And the ML connector is needed for instructions (in a ML setup) and used for music distribution. HDMI can be handled by the Beovision, but it does't "downgrade" the audio to analog for use over the ML network.

Oh the irony...
Jeff
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
seethroughyou:Except we aren't derailing it as it is actually about the Bs5. Try to keep up!
It's actually about an update to Spotify on the BS5, not the device's fitness for purpose.
Ban boring signatures!
......and I was just hoping to read some positive comments about how to improve the BS5.
And this negative (off topic) flow isn't an encouragement for owners/members to react. They are probably already withhold by the comments.
seethroughyou:Did you not just post this on the Beolit thread where there are recurrent problems yet in this thread you pretend that those that criticise the Bs5 are delusional?
Ummm... Read that thread again. That was a dig AGAINST B&o and potential faults in their supply chain -not the OP...
NOW, CAN WE PLEASE GET BACK TO THE BS5 AND SPOTIFY???

Razlaw:+1Reminds me of a letter I read years ago in paper. Somebody was complaining that they bought a new car without test driving it and when they found out they did not like the seats, they were upset that the dealer would not take it back.A way to avoid disappointment is to investigate a product, learn about it, try it out at the dealer and actually know what you are buying.
seethroughyou:Jeff. The OP is about Bs5. My comments were about the Bs5. Try to keep up. Giggle on your part is looking a tad premature now.
Man, you aren't the brightest bulb on the string are you. The point had little to do with a product but everything to do with your hypocrisy in whining about people derailing a thread while you do the exact same thing. Use some of that cash you got when you dumped your system to buy a clue!
If you'll excuse me, I need to go to an iMac forum and slag the Apple products that I don't own.
seethroughyou:That is the worst analogy. There's only so much you can investigate a product without actually owning it. When I investigated it on multiple dealer visits the rate, depth and quality of the proposed upgrades toted was clearly exaggerated by B&O to the dealers in 2009. In reality the upgrades and capability have been very slow and of less than desirable quality relative to their intimations and products by other manufacturers. My hope is that B&O when they bring out future gear will design the product and its software comprehensively and make it slick, powerful and put others to shame. Secondly, when a problem is identified they respond within several weeks to months. Encouragingly I think we are starting to see evidence of a move from half-baked products to units such as the BL14 and Bv11. It still does not change the mistakes made in the Bs5 and its software progression.
Well Razlaw it was also the dust under glass which appeared later in ownership, sent back for cleaning to B&O who refuted any design problems. Came back with more dust so sent back 2nd time and B&O conceded an issue with design problem so replaced the unit after several months wait. The seals were revised but dust has been reported since this revision.
That and the stuttering off the covering art as it flowed across the screen which also took a while to make itself evident in ownership and could not be resolved and is an issue with the speed the Bm5 can deliver cover to the head unit especially on start up. The other forum members who have boards fail so my unit is not just an isolated incident in my case.
Problems with a product are not always evident when you 'test drive' it. Long terms ownership reveals design flaws that short-term 'test-driving' can't...

The OP commented on dissatisfaction with the Bs5 update and I reflected on my experience when i owned it which is consistent with what i experienced and frustrated me. You are struggling to grasp this. If you had an iMac in the past and shifted it due to ongoing problems and slow progression to resolve problems you'd be justified in going to the mac forum. i have owned it so i am justified in commenting on it. had i never owned it i would never have been justified in saying anything about it. This is not the point Jeff - you are the point...the derailment started thanks to your personal attack when i originally posted and now in your latest post we see more abuse from you. People aren't agreeing with you and a comment has hit a nerve so continue to respond in the way a school-bully would by being personal and denigrating and continue to do so rather than focusing on the issue and staying with it. Perhaps you should try not be personal about members on the forum - until you refrain from doing so don't be surprised that people take issue with it.

All of which, as well as virtually everything else you have posted since you derailed this thread, has absolutely nothing to do with the topic.
Have you ever used Spotify on a Beosound 5? Note: that is the topic. Or was until your post.
And with that, I will end my side of this discussion and just skip past your angry rants and look for topic related posts when I visit this thread.
You indicated that i was basing my comment solely on my expectations because you had not read earlier postings. Your error not mine. I corrected this incorrect conclusion of yours by elaborating that there were structural problems with the Bs5 and you criticise me. Were you expecting me to agree with you and not present the full picture when you misrepresented me?
So you want to argue about what the OP said - you will see that the OP firstly talks about search function "Just noticed an update on the Beosound 5 for Spotify with a search function now available."
and then the OP launches into comments sharing his frustration about how B&O is not living up to "at Bang & Olufsen we are constantly working to enhance our products in order to not only satisfy the expectations of our customers but to exceed them....." Just noticed an update on the Beosound 5 for Spotify with a search function now available. Yes it does work but kind of reminds me of how I used to send a text message on my Nokia mobile 15 years ago....When Spotify was released Bang & Olufsen said "at Bang & Olufsen we are constantly working to enhance our products in order to not only satisfy the expectations of our customers but to exceed them....."It's still easier to do the search on the phone/iPad/computer and push it onto Spotify.Come on B&O - you can do better than this. Start satisfying our expectations."
So in summary Razlaw, the bulk of the OP is about disappointment, reflecting on hopes being dashed, incompleteness of release and referencing it to text messaging on an old Nokia phone.
So to answer your question his reflections on the release correlate with my reflections on the disappointments i faced and especially so this update or future update. The OP is more about poor software release, B&o's failures and the OP's response. Razlaw, if you are going to pretend to be a barrister or an attorney and speak to me in an adversairal and inquisitorial manner try and grasp what was really said and expressed. In focusing in on "do you have spotify on a Bs5 or not" line of questioning you have missed the whole point of what the OP is expressing and venting.
Secondly, given that abuse and personal attacks are not permitted in the forum and people can rightly take offence you can not blame people when they are subjected to that and need to address it there and then. Your good friend Jeff is to blame for that. If he could stick to issues rather than abuse members i promise never to mention forum behaviour in a thread. I doubt you will get such an undertaking from him.
Brevity is the soul of wit...
Beobuddy: linder: I loaded the Beosound update for Spotify and played one of my playlists. After about 10 mins, the system halts with a solid blue screen. My Beosound 5 was halting periodically after the last update. With the recent Spotify updates, the Beosound 5/BMS started to become useful. Unfortunately for me the Beomaster 5 is failing. If the problem occurred after the update, then it's unlikely the hardware that fails. You can do a system recovery, which loads the standard software installed on the harddrive and installs the update afterwards. Your music will be unaffected by the recovery. Your content is stored on a different part of the harddrive and will be unaffected by the whole procedure. BTW, if it's the hardware, several things can be done before throwing it at the bin.

Thanks Beobuddy,
I did do a recovery and the system worked normally for about 2 days and then halted. This time there was no blue screen. The screen was blank with the red light on in the upper right. Turning the power off and then on to cause a cold start does work but the system halts again about a day later. My Beomaster 5 is one the the early ones. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks StUrrock, No, My BS5/BM5 has never been serviced. It has actually never had a problem. How would I know if I need a motherboard replaced?
Do anybody know how the new update is working with the Beo4? Thinking on "starred", ad to playlist and so on..

It starts acting like you describe. In my case, it was random freezes and crashes.
Stan
Thanks Stan,
I have something to think about. As it turns out my BM5 is 4 months out of warranty. The dealer wants $75 just to look at it and a new one is $2000.
I want the new Mac Pro cylinder that comes out in the fall. I think I'll save my money for that. Apple will be around longer than Bang & Olufsen.
Thanks to all for the help.
Normann: Do anybody know how the new update is working with the Beo4? Thinking on "starred", ad to playlist and so on..
The update works wonderfully for me but I have not figured out how to use the functions you mention, although I do understand them to be there.

It`s lworking like playlist function in N.MUSIC mode. You can add playlists/tracks to colored or number buttons and select them with Beo4/5/6.
I don`t know if it should be the way to work or if it`s just my private workaround, but I have added "Starred" to blue favourite list.
Now I can select Starred by pressing A.MEM blue.
To activate Artist Radio press GO (select) long.
You will find an updated guide for BS5 Spotify function on Beo`s site.
Stefan
Stan:4 mo out of warranty? Have you bought other equipment from this dealer? This is a widely known problem. You might try fighting a bit for a free repair. Stan
Agree completely with Stan. My BS5 (one of the first) was out of warranty since about two years, when the motherboard died.
No problem with my dealer and Beo that my BS5 got a new board for free.
It`s a known problem with early BS5s that they had faulty motherboards!
If your dealer insists on charging you I`d recommend to contact B&O in Struer.

Normann:
When I look at the Spotify guide on the B and O site it looks like the old one. For instance, no mention of the new search function.
http://www.bang-olufsen.com/de/customer-service/product-support/sound/sound-systems/beosound-5
It`s multilanguage....
I don`t know what you are looking at...????
But it`s all there: Playlists, favourites, colour buttons, collaborative playlists.....
Send me your mail-address and I can send you the document.
Read some posts above.
I am sorry I was not specific enough with my question. The update info on the Beosound 5 reads in part as follows:
"Also you will now be able to make star bookmarking from your Bang and Olufsen remote control" I see where you posted how to access the star playlist with A.Mem Blue. Is that what B and O means by "star bookmarking"?
If "star bookmarking" is something different than what you are referring to, does the guide you are using include "star bookmarking"?
I was thinking "star bookmarking" referred to adding something to "star", not just accessing "star"
Thanks and sorry if I am confused. I am still new to using Spotify.

Yes, I think, you are right.

We all are new to Spotify, because the features are new, so no need to apologize...
