Hi!
I have built up a Beolink system with MCL boxes connected to my Beomaster 4500. I have one main room and two link rooms. I now plan to expand the system to yet another link room. In the main room i have a pair of Beolab Penta and in the link rooms I have passive speakers. The link boxes i use are MCL 2A.
I now want to build another link room with my Beolab 4500 active loudspeakers. They can be connected with either Powerlink and Speakerlink. The MCL 2A link box was designed for passive loudspeakers and therefore it has no powerlink connections. There's another MCL 2 box called MCL2AV that has Powerlink and a lot of other functions. But since i already have a MCL2A box, I want to use that one.
So here is the main question: can I use the MCL 2A box to connect my active loudspeakers trough Speaerlink? Both the box and my speakers have Speakerlink connections. And will the displays work with Speakerlink in a link room?
I know Powerlink has more features, such as they both carry left and right signals and can be connected in series. They also turn off the speakers instantly when you mute the system. But besides from that, are there any other advantages by using Powerlink over Speakerlink here? What about the power consumption, is it good that the Beomaster sends amplified sound trough Speakerlink to active speakers when they already have built in amplifiers? Will I be able to use more link rooms at the same time if i use Powerlink and therefore saves some power from the Beomasters amplifier?
