I have an old Mac mini that I am trying to connect to my Avant in a bedroom. I have had it connected to my BV8 in main room but have replaced the Mac with a new Mini.
My Avant has VCR built in and this is connected to one of the Scart connections. I have a second Scart connection with a cable with 6 RCA plugs on the other end and am trying to connect the mini DVI adapter to the yellow video plug on the end of the Scart.
I'm afraid I cannot even work out what the input in the Avant menu should be and I cannot get any response from any input.
I have examined the documentation on the Avant and it keeps referring to a Connections menu - mine has a source menu (which I imagine is the same) and the only sources I have a choice of are: V.Tape2, S-VHS V.Tape2, CDV, Decoder-2, Door Camera andNon-B&O V.Tape2. I don't know which of these to choose.
The instructions are notoriously bad and I do not know where to go from here.
If anyone has any ideas I would greatlly appreciate some assistance.
Patrick
On my Avant 32 RF DVD it says SCART, AV and DECODER underneath the scart connections with very small letters. I don't know if yours does the same??
On my Avant 32 VHS the scart cable for external sources is put in the scart socket labeled "AV" and I access it via "V.Aux" on the remote.Hope that helps. Beware, that you even need to have the right scart cable regarding the RCA-plugs on the cable. There are cables that are only for audio-video-OUT etc.!Perhaps you should try it first with a standard scart cable and a DVD-Player or the Scart-RCA-Adapter that is included on gaming consoles like Playstation 3, Wii etc., they do work!
I have replaced the cable with the Playstation one and still no luck. If I connect the Avant via AV Scart to headphone jack of mac then I get music no matter what source I choose (even TV) so sound is not a problem. I have a Mini DVI to RCA (supplied with Macbook) and then a yellow Video to yellow video on the playstaion cable. This seems to be correct but still a blank black screen.
The Av options I have are I have in the source menu are: V.Tape2, S-VHS V.Tape2, CDV, Decoder-2, Door Camera andNon-B&O V.Tape2. I don't know which of these to choose.
I have tried pretty much them all.
What I have noticed that if I choose CDV then I cannot find this in the list of sources on the Beo4. I guess I have to add this but of course cannot. Is there another option?
Looking forward to getting this to work.
I use this one on my old Avant connected to the V-AUX:

Easy to set up - not the best picture, but it won't get better.
A compromise, but allows me to use the ATV in the linkroom - so why shouln't it work for the MacMini as well.

There is a tv - and there is a BV

CDV is the same as DVD on a more modern remote.
When you are selecting the AV option in the connections/sources menu on the Avant you are simply choosing which button on the remote selects that input - hence you should chose one that is most convenient. I would chose CDV because you can then use the DVD button to select it without using LIST.
It is an older Mac Mini and so does not have a HDMI output. I am using Mini DVI with the adapter dongle from Apple which has on the other end S-Video and The Yellow composite plug. This yellow cord is going to the Video in on the RCA to Scart input on the Avant.
Still can't get picture but can get sound from itunes on computer
I have chosen CDV from the Source menu and pressed DVD on the Beo4, but still am not able to get picture.
This is such a mystery.
I am therefore stuck for ideas but I do not know enough about the Mac Mini. However ..
Have you tried connecting it to the SCART input of another (non B&O) TV?
Also have you tried connecting the Mac Mini to the 'Easy Access' sockets below the close up operation panel at the top? The TV should automatically switch to his input as soon as it detects a signal.
I tried connecting my Macbook Pro to the connections near the control panel on the Avant and it works fine. As you said it automatically detects it. However when I connect the mini in the same way all I get is pink scrolling bars on the Avant screen. This has e mystified.
I have decided to use the close-up panel for the connection as the Scart does not seem to work no matter what I do. However what I do not understand is why my Powerbook G4 will work fine (both picture and sound) but the Mac mini just shows these pink striped that scroll through the screen. Does this mean that the Mini DVI output is different on the two computers?
HDCP
I tried this with an appleTV - it works but the pic is so small and fuzzy , it's pointless , 640 x 480 just doesn't cut it in the world of HD , time to get a new telly methinks
There's a gizmo on Ebay that allows you to transfer HDMI signals to s-video / composite
Hi
I looked at Mac Mini to Scart/S-VHS a while back and came across a few sites that said it won't work. I kept one description of why not, but it may not be for your Mac and I can't remember which forum I found it on
It is my understanding that the 9400M chipset supports DVI-D only. I have not tested this, but if this IS the case VGA _MAY_ not work without an active converter. There are 3 DVI standards: DVI-D = Digital signals only DVI-A = Analog signals over a DVI port (basically normal VGA over DVI) DVI-I = Combination of DVI-D and DVI-A With the D-15 connector there are some things that will absolutely not work with DVI-D. One of those being RGB which is what most of your TV and Projectors use that have a D-15 connector. Computer monitors however use other signals not the RGB from the D-15 and should work just fine with either a mini-dvi to VGA cable or a passive DVI to VGA adapter like most video cards come with. I do not currently know if this is a limitation of the chipset or the way it's wired into the Mini. It's worth looking into what output is available over the display port adapter. If I get a chance I will pull the mini over to the O-scope and see what I get on the pins on it. Incidentally I did some testing with a Dynex mini dvi to s-video cable and there is _A_ signal but it looks like a digital signal. I'm returning the adapter but I need to look up the pinout variation on DVI-D and DVI-A as I don't think there should be anything there so maybe Apple or Nvidia has something hidden there.
Hope that helps

Thank you for your reply as it is quite illuminating.
What I don't understand is:
1. Why the MacMini connected with MiniDVI to HDMI worked for three years on BV8. It was the heart of my Media Centre and operated with EyeTV without a hitch and produced such a beautiful picture, and
2. Why when the Macbookpro is conneced to the Avant (MiniDVI to Composite to SCART, once again the connection seems fine and the picture is OK on the Avant - not marvellous but OK.
The first point proves that the Macmini talks to the TV and the second shows that the DVI connection works with the Avant.
I just don't understand the problem.
Hi Patrick,
Could you let me know which hardware you used to make 'MinDVI to Composite to SCART' please? I am trying to connect my Mabook Pro to Avant 32 VCR using 'Apple minidisplayport to VGA' - 'Konig VGA to Video Converter', which has a scart cable with audio input. I connected the scart to the V.Tape scart port, and I can hear the sound but no video.
By the way, my TV is BeoVision Avant 32 VCR.
Thanks for help.
