Hi Guys,

First I'd like to say thank you for the tips on greasing and oiling :-)

I have another problem that I'm hoping you can help me with...

I've just purchased a Master Control Panel 5000 (my system didn't come with one) and its not working as it should.

All the functions and screens etc. work but only if its within a metre of the system... The beomaster 5000 receives signals from much further away but the remote wont get a reply over 1m (hope that makes sense)

So the IR signal from MCP  to beomaster is fine, but beomaster to MCP IR signal seems weak.

Any pointers?

I've had a look through the forums but can't find a similar issue.

Thanks in advance,

Lee

Hi Lee,

I just received a replacement MCP 5000 too and have the same issue. Signal is transmitting in both directions within about a metre, but further away than that there's no communication.

With my previous MCP I did discover that having the unit sited on a metal table top would prevent communication, so perhaps there's something in your listening room that's interrupting the flow of signal between the two units? Might be furniture-related rather than the kit itself?

A first attempt would be to clean the insides of the windows for the transmitter/receiver diodes (there are two sets, one at each front corner of the MCP). They attract dust and that can greatly reduce the range. You will need to open the MCP for that.

Other than that, it will probably be recap time for the Beomaster, and the MCP itself may have a couple of bad electrolytics as wel..

I replaced the MCP5000 with a different one and that sorted it.

Something I have noticed is the Plasma TV really affects the remote. If the TV is one the remote barely works. As soon as the TV is turned off it works perfectly from anywhere in the room.

Clearly a very sensitive little unit. Good info to share though.
