I was looking for a new coffee table for the lounge and a clock for the kitchen late last night, and actually gave up..

Does anyone have any suggestions for a website which just sells well designed, higher-end products?

I did indeed. It's so easy when you know what you want. Indifferent

However, when you've no clear idea about what you want, you end up sinking into a large vat of web-custard and sinking without a trace..

John Lewis <johnlewis.com>  are now selling some high end furniture like original Eames chairs for circa £5k.

On the other hand check out some of their own furniture: we bought a set of walnut dining chairs for about £40 each that turned out to be exact copies of Arne Jacobsen originals (made famous by Christine Keeler sitting astride an early copy (!)) The same chairs were being sold by Habitat for around £360 each when I last looked-  but maybe by Fritz Hansen who was the original manufacturer.

If you want contemporary furniture I suggest you try mac&mac interiors. They sell a lot of quality furniture from top Italian makers. I recently bought a Calligaris sideboard from them - good service.

I've only ever bought repro Eames and Le Corbusier but would recommend Vita Interiors in Bath - very helpful. Interior Addict in London is OK for some stuff but make sure you look at it before you buy - not all Chinese copies are the same!

I you are looking iconic designs Knoll has a great selection of tables. A close second is Cassina. Just look at their websites. And depending on your taste you may like http://www.fontanaarte.com/furniture/furniture-f/tavolo-con-ruote/ from Fontana Arte, or Zanotta. A great source to search is the website designaddict.com.

cheers...
