I recently disconnected my BC9500 for about an hour whilst installing a new TV in the entertainment center. When I reconnected it to the power strip, I accidentally hit that stupid rocker switch on the power strip and went on and off rapidly a couple times. After that it displayed the "COdE" message and while I haven't replaced the battery (I figured it was only needed in the event of a power loss and didn't much care), I performed the "1271" reset and got it working again.
However, since then a lot of strange things have been occurring. Firstly, I find that it randomly shuts off for no reason. It isn't connected to powered speakers (BeoLab Penta 3), and it's going into Standby, not any sort of protection mode. I can turn it all the way up and it won't shut down that way, just randomly. Next, after restoring it from the 1271 code entry, it was very reluctant to allow me adjust the tone settings and store them. It would flash several of the lights of in the left quadrant rapidly until it finally sputtered and coughed and let me change the settings.
And now the final issue. The 2 way communication with my BL7000 has quit working altogether. I can't tell if my remote is at fault or the unit itself. It still responds to commands from the BL1000. I don't have any other B&O equipment where I am to test with, but they were working flawlessly until today.
Can the backup battery really be at fault for all of this? Is it that critical to replace? Thanks.
Last night 2 way communications began working as quickly as they'd stopped. Then a couple of hours later I heard the sound on my program disappeared and I looked over at the remote to see the "STAND-BY" message on it. I think it's definitely the 9500. I just hope this is battery related and not some other issue.
I'm kind of surprised at the lack of response to this thread with as popular as this system is.
To add another update, yesterday I turned the system on and got NO sound from the speakers on ANY input later in the day. I got a "pop" once that was somewhat loud and decided after that I'm turning it off for good until I can figure out what the heck is wrong with it. I do not want to damage the Pentas because the 9500 is misbehaving.
The battery just supplies the memory while the unit is unplugged and has no other effect (pp 2-9 in the service manual).
Your unit is obviously in need of some restoration. Power supply is where I would direct my attention to first.

Thanks, Johan. This is what I figured. I'll look into the possibility of repair.
