I wonder which one the members prefer given that both are of a similar price I personally found both are of similar detailed sound. Is alt that important?

Well from a sound point of view, the Beolab 17 is to me when considering its size and price, the most impressive speaker that's just been released. It's wireless, the 12-2 is not. It fits perfectly on a shelf, whereas the 12-2 sits flush on a wall.

To not state the obvious, go and spend an afternoon listening. Look at your room and imagine where they would go, and how you would get a source to them(wireless!)

Hope you enjoy whatever you get.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

The BL3's are a bit brighter and softer I think overall. The BL17 I think can handle more varieties of music better and still without a sub sounds fantastic! If design doesn't matter I personally would go for 17's right now. But I sure do love the BL3's still!!

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

Neither, for me. I don't like either. Sound-wise, the BL17s are very 'down the middle' and I don't like the look at all. Looks like a BBC prop from the 70s Blakes 7. BL12-2 is not much better, from a visual perspective. But it's not my choice, of course.

I've owned BL5s through the BL3s and really rate the BL3's. In a small to medium sized room, along with a sub, you get a great all-round sound. Reasonably bright, yes, but the sub tones this down a bit. I combined my with the BL11, but a BL19 would be better still.

Alternatively, save up for the BL18s and combine these with a BL19 sub?
