Hi

Just got new belts for my beocenter 7700 tapedeck. There are two major issues though:

1. The tape deck won't Fast Forward. Engine is making noise, but deck is not moving. Reverse and play is working

2. The tape deck will not turn off or stop, unless you turnoff the whole center. Stop sets it in the same state as FF engine humming but tape not mooving.

Any ideas what to do?

Thank you

Anders

Hello Anders,

1: What you describe completely normal for this kind of tape transport, the problem should lie in a hardened idler wheel that has stuck so it can't turn the take-up reel.

2: This is pretty normal for many of the 7000-series, as it is a software bug; even Tim Jarman (creator of Beocentral.com and co-author of a excellent B&O collector's book) has been writing about the problem in his notebook.

They are good and very reliable machines with many elements of the much more expensive Beosystem 6000/8000; hell, here in Denmark you can get an almost working one in good condition for below £10!

Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.
