I believe the problem is the switch from 33 to 45 is not being made - any help on how to resolve most gratefully recieved

I don't know the BG1100 but if it has the automatic record detect system (which I believe it does), if you put a 33rpm record on the platter, the blazck centre spindle is depressed and the correct speed will be played.  To play a 45rpm single for example, the middle of the record needs to be removed so that the centre spindle on the BG is not depressed.  That should then play at 45rpm.

Dave.

You will have to start playing by pressing the "45" corner of the square plate rather than the "33".
A bit confusing, really, since the 33 corner also bears the "Start" (or "Play") lettering.

You will then have to inspect the mech. closer.
Something will have seized in dry lubricants and/or come lose.

Thanks - looks fine and arm moved to play 45s but speed is too slow. Very novice and not keen to play around as newbie!

Can you tell if the rubber idler wheel jumps from one section of the brass motor pulley to
the other when changing speed ?
