Hi All,
Thinking of listing a white Bsnd 9000 and after any relevant help re what to avoid/be aware of in terms of scams.
For clarity - I have used ebay for over a decade, and have also been involved with B&O as a dealer a few years ago ... however, things change and I have no real experience of using ebay for high ticket items, and my dealer days were 5 years ago and rules/scams change.
The white Beosound 9000 that I am thinking of selling went from the box to my wall, and has stayed there ever since. (still got the box and all relevant paperwork) as I just don't use it anymore.
Anyone here got any guidance/tips/rules for selling a high value item on ebay ... as I say, i am experienced with ebay but mainly for guitar strings and CD's/LP's ... low value stuff, and 99% as a buyer ... I am wary of getting stung and losing the kit to a con I am unaware of.
An idea of market value would also be helpful - I am a bit out of the loop nowadays. There is a one listed on ebay currently for £6000 !! - Do they really go for that kind of money.
Any advise gratefully received.

From the top of my head:
DO
Send only to confirmed Paypal addresses
Do not accept Paypal and let them collect it.
Use a reliable courier with tracking and full insurance (ensure they cover glass etc).
Obviously pack it well by double boxing it
Go through both eBay & Paypal's seller protection polices to make sure you've covered everything
Investigate the buyer - Google their name, is their email address a business one? Look at their previous buying and sold patterns. Are they new? Check their current buys using tools on goofbid.com. I've even looked up the postal address on streetview.
If in doubt risk a neg for the sake of a lot of money.
DON'T
Accept Western Union or methods of payment that could be made with a stolen credit card and then pulled back.
If you think nobody cares, try missing a couple of payments.

My ideal would be to have it collected, or even deliver it personally - but that seems risky of PPal is used. Seems odd that ebay seem to not accept proof of delivery via anything other than a courier .. you cannot deliver in person to the registered address, get a signature and be safe from a reclaim.
Therefore, you have to risk transit damage via a courier ... which means the risk is with the seller until it arrives... leading to claims from couriers, more transit costs etc etc.
Cash on collection is fine. It's just if you accept Paypal and they collect, some scrots can say it hasn't been delivered and as you'll have no proof so you'll be subject to a chargeback.

Correct, you must accept Paypal as a payment method to list on eBay

But you shouldn't accept it for local pickups (at least not here in the states). An unscruplous buyer can reverse his payment, saying he never received the item, and you can't prove you shipped it. Case closed, he wins. Doesn't matter if you have his signature and photograph - Paypal REQUIRES shipping records as proof of delivery. Demand cash for local pickups.
