Hi,

i'm new here (sorry for the first post being a technical question)

I have the following problem:

<< rewind ist not doing well (changing speed, in the middle of  tape getting stuck)

>> fast forward is running perfect.

> play as well

if i turn sides it is still the rewind that is problematic.

if it gets stuck,  the head plate is still in the upper position and it is not possible to take the tape out.

switching the overture off on does not help.

if i try to play, fast forward, rewind:  it makes some clicking sounds and i can hear the motor running (capstan is spinning but the rest not)

i pushed the heads plate down it went to base position (i could take the tape out)

but it was still not running  (clicking sounds and i can hear the motor running, capstan is spinning but the rest not)

I disassembled the unit and dismounted the tape deck: after spinning the flywheels manually in the right direction some of the mode selection gearwheels (i don't know hot to call them) jumpt back in the right position and the tape deck was back to operational mode.

but the problem with  rewind is still there (i'm sure if i let it running it will get stack again)

how can i solve the problem?

Best

Welcome to Beoworld !

Tech questions are welcome too.

Sounds to me like a slipping belt. Grab a new belt and replace it.
If you are not a skilled DIY'er, I suggest you let someone else do it for you.

Thank you for the answer.

slipping belt was my first idea but the thing with turning the side made me suspicious, however.

maybe what i wrote before is not so clear.

1) I inserted the tape

2) pressed play  (ok)

3) pressed FF (ok)

4) pressed rewind (fail

5) pressed turn (ok)

6) pressed play (ok)

7) pressed FF (now i expected FF to fail because technically it is the same direction as rewind was before but it was ok)

8) pressed rewind ( i expected rewind to be ok but it failed)

i would be happy if it is just the belt!

It all depends on the load on the belt.
A given FF could easily place a greater load on the belt than a given RW.
How much tape is on one reel compared to the other (pulling diameters), the decks brakes adjustments etc.

Of course there could be another fault in your deck but a worn belt is quite common for its age and
in most cases the only thing wrong.

Thank you again.

it all happens in the middle of the tape both reels equally full.

anyway I will order a replacement belt first (found some on ebay).

it will take approximately 3 week till i get it (Switzerland) but after that i will post the results :)

Hello,

i got my new belt, but before I start  taking the Overture apart i have one more question about the tape deck.

I observe a strange behaviour:

1) wake up overture and open doors  (There is no tape inside of the deck.)

2) Push the tape button -> heads go up and it start "playing" without a tape

3a) Push any other tape deck related button, except turn -> it stops,  heads go down, capstans still spinning

3b) Push turn -> it turns and sometimes it freezes (the heads stay in the upper position, and nothing happens) or it plays

What is wrong?

The torque needed to engage and disengage the tapeheads is also provided by the belt...

I cannot tell you.
Many functions depend on the belt so I wouldn't judge any of it with an old and slipping belt still in there.

Hi,

with the new belt the problems with slow RW and  not disengaging Head are gone.

I've recorded the procedure and I will put the vid on youtube (after remastering)

One thing is still not clear to me:

if i switch mode to tape (eg. from CD) the heads are going up and the deck starts playing (even if there is no Tape inside)

Is this a normal behaviour ? (verification by somebody with an overture is needed :) )

My Overture does exactly the same so I assume its normal.

A long list...

Hi,

I've got similar problem. Could someone explain to me how to extract tape deck step by step from B&O Ouverture? I found on youtube how to replace the belt having mechanism out of the unit but I've failed to find how to take it out?

Thank you for your help in advance!
