Hi Guys,
I was trying to set up a Beogram 7000 with my parents Beocenter 9000 sound system. I've plugged it into the phono input on the Beocenter 9000 and the record player functions properly. However the volume is extrememly low and i literally have to max out the Beocenter 9000 volume to hear anything. On top of this the sound is very scratchy and in audiable.
Can anyone suggest what the problem could be? I assume the Beogram 7000 needs a new needle but i don't want to buy one to only find out the problem was something else.
I'm not definite on those model numbers but i'm quite sure they're close to accurate (give or take a 1000).
thanks
orfeo
ps i do have a photo and movie of the problem but couldn't attach it
Sounds like there's no preamplifier in your deck. The Beogram 7000 had one from the factory but someone could have removed it to suit a different setup.- Or your deck is not a 7000.http://www.beoworld.org/faq_view.asp?id=18

Hi Martin,
I rechecked the system and it is actually a Beogram 5500, which i've found doesn't have a pre amp. So i assume my only option to use this record player with this amplifier is to get a pre amplifier. Are there any stock standard pre amps which are generally recommended for this purpose? I'm not after an audiophile product as this is just for my parents so they can listen to their old records.
I did see this on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/sis.html?_nkw=BeoGram+RIAA+Pre+Amp+for+Bang+Olufsen+B+O+BeoSound
but i'm not really looking to spend 50 pounds, are there any cheaper options?
Also, the Beogram 5500 has the output cable soldered/wired to it and it can not be removed. I.e. The cable only outputs to the 7 pin DIN socket of the BeoCentre. These ebay amps require that you output from record player to the RCA input of the amp, then out again from RCA to 7 pin DIN. I guess i could get a 7 pin DIN to female RCA cable to switch my record play to fit these amps.
It would be a messy solution.
Preamps built to fit inside the Beogram are available:http://www.mb-el.net/side3.html
A tech guy, soldering etc. is needed to do the job.
You must have another wrong number here. The Beocenter 9000 has a built in phono stage so the Beogram 5500 should be exactly what is required!!!
Please check the 9000. Is it a Beocenter or Beosound 9000 multi CD player???
