Hello all.

I found on ebay a beomaster 2000 (the 1974 model 801) in back and white (the wood is white and the aluminium is black).

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151228685029?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Has a simular version ever existed from B&O or is the result of the artistic talent of the seller?

As far as I know, only the rosewood version has black aluminum control panel.

They come in white and other types of woodfinish.

I have an aluminium/ white Beomaster 2000. The white finish is actually very slightly creamy in colour and not the brilliant white of the black and white one on eBay. Photographs can be misleading, but I would double check that it is not a refinished rosewood model.

Hello Leslie,

I know they come in white (the wooden part) - but with the control panel in the true color of aluminium, as the one Graham has. I have a white/aluminium beomaster 1200 and I can say that the color is not pure glossy white - it is closer to the color of milk. Is it the same with your 2000 Graham?

You're right, mine has a aluminium panel as well, not black.

Yes, I would say that my 2000 was milky white, and I think if you searched the archive for other Beoworlder's pictures of their 2000's (and mine is there somewhere) you would see the same creamy white colour and not brilliant white. Ikea have a shelf called LACK: the white version is the same creamy white rather than brilliant white.

Palisander and teak versions have black aluminum.
Oak and white versions have natural aluminum.

The one on Ebay has either been put together from two Beomasters or the wood has been painted.
It's not original like this.

That's exactly what I thought Dillen : it is a "mix & match" or a white painted beomaster 2000.

I have nothing against re-painting B&Os, even in a creative way. Actually I am a big fun of Evan and his "all white" beomaster 4500

BUT when someone tries to sell something like this, I think it will be honest to say that it is not in original color or color combination. This seller, starting at 120 euros wants us to believe that it is a genuine black and white beomaster 2000.

Graham, I realy like that you have compared the color of your Beomaster to an IKEA product - that is a Global Standard! I though the same, as my beomaster 1200 is on a IKEA Billy bookself. Comparing to the color of the bookself, my Beo1200 is 2 tones more white and a little bit more glossy.

Yes it is obviously not original and it was painted. But I don`t think he wants us to believe that it is a genuine black and white beomaster. You can not find this information in his auction.

If you look on his auctions I am rather thinking that he got or bought lot of different old vintage devices and he are selling them now. Maybe he don`t know much about them. That could be a reason why he don`t write lot about this Beomaster. And no, I am not the seller....

It is often to be seen on the Ebay and it's up to you if you buy this item or not. I would never buy but we are all different ...

To say the truth the_o_master I thought that maybe the seller was a member of the forum and maybe my post made someone feel uncomfortable. The fact is that when I saw that the seller has sold 6 B&Os in the past 2 months only, I didn't  thought that he is not knowing a lot about B&Os.

But when someone has a staring price of 120 euros and a selling period of a month (the biding ends in 28 days) it is because he thinks, or wants the buyer to think, that he is selling a very special and rare item.

Well, that is just what you can select when selling.
Why choose 10 days when your offer can be on their site for 30 days?

To me the price of 120 euros is not too high, you can always make an offer, too...

BTW, not my listing on ebay.

You are probably right but I just wanted to say, he didn't write "it is original painted". So it's up to you if you know this information or not, that's why we have Beoworld ;-)

Actually, if you look on his former B&O-auctions, I am pretty sure, he do not know much about those devices. And because of that he sold them for a peanuts. Bad description, not tested well -> bad price got.

Now he is trying to get more with "Buy now" prices  with "make an offer" option. Maybe he has more luck...

We all have own strategy buying on the Bay. There were many posts here about that...

In bright sunlight my BM2000 looks very slightly more creamy than the Ikea white shelf, and it has about the same level of glossiness.

With most white painted finishes where there is some oil in the original formulation then the whiteness deteriorates and becomes more cream in colour with age. So this would also make me suspicious of a 40 year old Beomaster having a brilliant white finish. Having said that a digital camera or software could easily display a creamy white as brilliant white!
