My BeoHibernation nearly over... I finally replaced the power board caps in my BL7000, last mentioned HERE.
After ~18 months, the old girl has risen (pun intended) from the ashes.

BTW, the covers arrived yesterday, undamaged from the looks (I'm not going to pull the protective wrap until after they're on though). No dents, well packed, many thanks!
It's rewarding to see the folks here who care so much about B&O doing such wonderful restorations. To all who are doing this, my hat's off to you all.
Since I still haven't managed to source a B&O Dirigent, I got the next best thing. Matches the Beogram 42 just as well.
Got this one some months ago. Advertised as a hopeless cause for spares. So I obviously had to save it. Fixed the burnt left amplifier, the switches, the lights, and renovated the complete exterior (which was the hardest part). It turned out to be a pretty decent amplifier and I really like the design.
Worked great for about 2 months when out of nowhere an annoying high-frequency humming appeared on both channels. I couldn't trace the humming, since I only had a 10MHz Oscilloscope - and that just didn't show it. Narrowed it down to the pre-amp and then to the stabilized power supply for the pre-amp. And then I gave up after hours of replacing basically everything. Everything measured fine, no faults to be found nowhere. That was weeks ago, today I was finally fed up with using my iMac speakers instead of the Beovox 3702. So I completely disassembled the power supply and the pre-amp. Desoldered every single component. In the end it turned out to be a cracked insulation piece between a transistor and the heat sink. Stupidest fault in a long time.
Still, there a way worse projects to be working on. Speaking from experience, of course.

A quick look inside revealed what appears to be a broken shield wire. Dont know yet if reconnecting will fix the problem or not. but I will be finding out shortly.

Truth be know one pair of BeoLab 4s travelled that way, as did a set of BeoLab 3s - separate trips mind you !

I have the BC1900 and the BC2400, and they are actually great decks for playback. I have the BC1900 in the main system (as well as a BC4500) and I'm always surprised at the fidelity one can get from a 20+ year old prerecorded cassette. And to think I used to snub my nose at prerecorded cassettes.
So - I hope you decide it was a better purchase than to just complete the set.
My cheapest buy ever was also $20 - a fully working BG RX 2 advertised as not working but just needed the transport screws released! (Best value ever was probably fully working BM1900 for $50 where the seller threw in CX 50s that needed a refoam.)

Discovered that my the date of manufacture is 17 OKT. 1972 - the first year.

I have the opportunity to buy (locally) a boxed 1979 Beocenter 4000 which doesn't power up. It does look lovely though. It shouldn't be too difficult to fix I guess.
The usual voltage selector or fuse or the odd power transistor failure causing the mains fuse to blow.
Is this model worth having at all?

The amplifier should be excellent, with similar circuit principles than the old plank style Beomaster 2000. I have no idea whether the cassette part is any good though or just a waste of desk space nowadays.

I almost made a pair of Beolab CX50. But I didn't dare, so I activate a pair Little Paradigms with 20+20W T-amp. These are for my work computer:
If I have had a spare backplate for CXs, picture above may show Beolabs...
BTW It pays to be suspicious, just inspect my Beosystem 4500, hanging on the wall. Glasspanels were just about fall off! So work ahead there.
I haven ever seen (or heard) panels fall off from 5000 to 7000 series. Do they use different kind of glue there?

They are plastic and attached properly to be an integral part of the whole front panel. No double sided tape there!
Nice idea with the speakers.Some small D/T class amp module would indeed be suitable to be built in a CX50
This arrived today. Condition is better than expected. Even the (always missing) badge turned up! Jammed between presets 4 & 5. No idea how it is even possible to get that there.
The "tip" of the antenna is missing. Wasn't there a source for these? I suppose it is the same as for the Beolit 1000. I'm sure there was a link on the old forum, but I can't seem to find it.
Anyway: Complete disassembly, fixed the pushbutton module (the release was completely stuck, rusted in place). Tested the speaker, works fine (blew out a big dustcloud on switching on). Changed some leaking caps.
Reassembled, connected a 9V power source, switched on…nothing except constant ticking from the speaker. Same with the tape input. I guess it wants some more attention...
Very nice Beolit project !If it has AF126 transistors for the IF amps they should be fine but if it has the dreadful AF116 or AF117,I suggest you replace them on sight. They will short internally sooner or later and they can cause lack of sensitivityor even leave the set completely dead on reception.
