I assume these are going around but Saturday I received a 'Special Invitation' to the reveal of the new television.

I don't remember these in the past, though I'm sure they happened. Apparently the management is excited about this new Avant.

I have heard it is very cool. I anticipate the beolink gateway, new remote, and hopefully an new beolink app arrive as well.

Anyone else have any news?

What is the date of your invitation ?

Some BeoWorlders say the May 8th ?

Is there any "teaser picture" on the B&O invitation, like Apple keynote press invitation ?

Looking forward to that.

My invitation was rather 'informal' - just a personal email with date and time (May 8th 19:00 - danish time).

Unfortunately, It was just a black postcard. I do know the proprietor of the shop and have not inquired of him about it yet. However, I believe the dealers are getting the reveal today and tomorrow in the national meetings. This is all pretty exciting as I believe this release will be accompanied by a new remotes and a couple of other things as well.

Any ideas if

1: The new remote will be backward compatible and

2: Will it be lit so I can see it in the dark?

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

@mjmedio - I guess your dealer (like all others) won't tell anything. They are stricktly forbitten to say anything!

-----

I am very curious of the new remote.

Will it be a remote especially for the 'new Avant'? I hope not - we have seen such things before.

If it will be a successor for the Beo4, it might be very important. The remote is what we use for interacting with our B&O-gear (and the 3.party gear as well). Will it be a remote for a new way of interacting or just a re-designed 'old' remote?

The avant I'm hearing is very cool with a moving speaker that expands from the center.

I think there will be some magic again!

You must use the 'Reply' button and then choose 'Options' and 'Add/Update' (File attachment) to find the picture you want to insert in your post.

Note - You can not do this from an iDevice!

I'd guess that will come it at £6000. If so, that's extremely cheap for a 55" B&O. Cheaper than my BV11-46! Which means my BV11-46 will be worth a lot less after the release of this new TV!

55", 4K, reasonable price, new remote. Interesting times.

That would mean 4000 euros cheaper than a Beovision 11-55 !!!

I got mine last fall, fortunately with a Beolab 14 2.1 offered. However, I am very happy with it, always amazed by the picture quality.

Sort of, it's attached as a PDF!

Anyway, looks like the new TV will have no bezel at all? Picture seems to extend right to the edge of the panel!

Seems rather 'glassy'. I wonder where the speakers are 'hidden' when the tv is on a wall? MM

Thanks, very cool and mysterious picture !

We can also see a part of the speaker with an aluminium "grid" in the middle ?

Very interesting.

And if the price and the new remote are real, it's a really amazing product ! Embarrassed

Time to change my BeoVision 10-40 ?

The speaker retracts backwards and the screen comes down. (Bv4-85/103 wise when on floorstand)

That is easy to understand - if it is placed on a stand.

But hanging on a wall, this would need space (behind the tv) - unless the speakers are very thin/slim. And 'thin speakers' often means 'thin sound'.

That's not sure at all !

55" is far too big for a lot of people on this planet, the BV10/BV11 as a unique David Lewis design (the new Avant is a screen à la BV12), danish Vs czech made.

You're right,

It's a different product.

Some will like the Avant, some the BV11 or the V1.

And with the disappearance of the BV12, the TV portfolio would be "poor".

A third TV is welcome, in my opinion...

BeoGreg:

Of course it will. It stands to reason it will. No-one is going to spend £10K on a BV11-55 when you can get the new 4K 55" TV for only £6K.

And, it correctly follows that no-one is going then spend £7K on a smaller 46", when you can get the 4K 55" for less. Which then drives down the re-sale of the pre-loved models as dealers won't want to give you much money for them. No dealer is going to give you £3K for a BV11-46 as it will be stuck in their showroom - they won't even be able to shift the new BV11's, never mind pre-loved models :)

It's wishful thinking that people will 'demand' an expensive old BV11-46 simply as they want a 46".

My dealer was reluctant to give me any info about the new TV, but did say that the audio performance wasn't spectacular. About the same as a standard BV11.

But, mind you, our expectations are a bit high if we're expecting B&O to both reduce the price *and* deliver an improved audio/video experience (above a BV11). I'd settle for a serious price decrease and BV11 audio performance as it can be enhanced with a sub and it's way better than competitor TVs.

So its going to need a sub and has no DVD/BLURAY player built in.

Not really the new Avant thenErm..

I do not have any special expectations on the new tv - but I am curious to see/hear how it performs.

Just wondering how hidden/moving speakers are going to perform.

Imagine you just want to hear sound - netradio/music - airplayed to a connected ATV. How long will it take for the speaker to get into position? Surely something to show off for visitors Cool - but for everyday use, uh?

---

I think that both tv's - the 'new' and the BV11 are able to coexist. But the price for the BV11 probably will be lowered a bit over time.

Not sure, Chris.

I think the substitute of the Avant was the BeoVision 7-32 in 2005 : dvd player, amazing BL7.1, motorized stand,...

But in 2014, i believe a new 4K panel, a great speaker (always better than the mass market TV), a powerfull image and sound engine, and a clever connectivity panel, can make this new TV the modern Avant.

The Blu-ray tends to disapear, like all physical disks, and an ethernet connection (smart TV) with HDMI and USB ports for boxes and external hard drive or NAS can do the difference.

The problem (apparently) with the internal Blu-ray player is that they were forced to send back the whole TV for repair when something was wrong with the player.

As long as I can connect a bluray player easily, I am not concerned about a built-in one.

Besides - my old Avant had no Bluray player built in Stick out tongue

No-one needs a DVD player in 2014, built in to a TV. Chris, I mean, really? :) What sort of odd message would that give out if B&O announced a brand new TV, in 2014....with a DVD/Blu-ray player? B&O is attempting to reach a younger audience, not alienate them.

We needed the Bluray player three times last week as our broadband was less than 1 Mbps. I love Apple TV and have bought over 60 movies on it, but I loved the ability to still play the discs more.

And we only live 200 metres from the BT substation.

Anyway I'm sure it will be fantastic and am looking forward to seeing and hearing it.

Yes, of course it's the solution.

But the problem for some people is the rip of the movies.

It's not easy for a "no-geek" person to use a computer with the right software and transfer the movie on a NAS or a Hard drive.

Same for the music, that's why B&O provide the CD-Ripper.

But unfortunatly, only Kaleidescape can bring a legal solution.
