Michael:

But I do have a question though!  It's about speakers.

If the Avant has 3 channels in the TV such as Left, Right and Centre, if i use my BL3s as rear speakers, does that mean i would have 5 channel sound and thus just need to add a subwoofer such as BL11?

I like the look without external front left and right speakers if the motorised inbuilt speaker can act in this role?  Does someone know? :-)

Thanks in advance.

I'm sure it can do that, you'll have three speakers present in the settings, and you can assign any role you want to them. E.g. FL, C, FR and use only rear external speakers. It is said somewhere in the video of Geoff Martin on the sound of the Avant.

Beolit 12 - Beolab 4 pc (dead now) - Beoplay H5 - Beolab 9 - BeoRemote One BT - Beoplay M3

As crossbytje already wrote: yes indeed.

But it depends on how you mainly use your system.

If you wach a lot of 5.(1) stuff, it's a good idea.

However - if you are more into listening to music as a stereo source or plain tv watching, you'd probably be happier with the BL3's as fronts (with or without a sub).

My advice: try it out, see (that is:hear) what you like best.

A reconfiguration of the speakers settings is very easy.

Have fun with your Avant Smile

In the states, we're are always charged separately for installation. I think this can be the only way. Especially with the reduced margins between list and dealer cost, install labor and materials MUST be a la carte.

If you luv BnO, don't cheap out here. The only question is about the installer's competency and experience. THAT is one expectation I do have about my dealer.

B

I've heard differently from different people. Maybe due to the cost of the initial purchase, repeat customers, etc. But I agree, I think installation should be free (or included in the price), especially for large items. Surely B&O installers aren't "booked solid" in the states, unless stores subcontract (which I hope they don't).

That's a lot more definitive statement than I would be comfortable making, you know what they say about saying always or never. I would think it would depend on the dealer, the dealer's level of commitment to the customer and/or their financial health, and the complexity of the installation. Also on things like how long the customer had been buying from the dealer, and how much was being bought.

I for one would expect a dealer to do some basics for free for kit as expensive as B&O, especially the heavier and more awkward stuff. Assuming I don't live on the dark side of the moon but within a reasonable distance, I would expect them to deliver, say, an Avant or pair of BL5s, unpack them, and put them in place. Minimal required effort and expense on the part of the dealer, but gives a true feeling of you've bought a luxury brand. Same way as my sister in law's Kia. When she needs service she has to find her own ride, my Acura nets me a free loaner when I need service. Hard to sell an upmarket product without a sense of upmarket attention to the customer.

Now if I wanted them to drill multiple holes in the wall, run and terminate and hide cables for a more complex installation, I would expect to be charged for that. And I would expect the dealer to have adequately trained and competent installers.

Even in the dark ages when I worked in a stereo store we would deliver and do basic setup for free, I did it a lot. Carried gear in the beat up van we had, setup speakers and amps, ran basic wiring, advised on best position. Usually for barely a thank you from a lot of customers.

I don't think it's simple enough to have an iron clad rule. If charging for delivery was the difference between moving a $10k TV or leaving it sitting on the showroom floor, seems like most dealers would cart the TV home for the customer.

Charged or not - do remember to always have coffee, water or alike (but no beer Embarrassed) ready for the installers, especially if it is a job of hours.

They will appreciate that.

Champagne?

With Avant, Nostalgie 1999 would do.

This installer works on white wine. Just started unpacking the stand. Been busy all day but now it's time. Tonight the stand, tomorrow the TV. Pictures will follow.

Good point, a little courtesy goes a long way towards making the installers feel appreciated. Back in the day when I did delivery and installs, I often barely got a muttered thank you but one customer brought me a small planter of houseplants as a thank you gift a couple of days after I did an install. I can say, made me feel really good and appreciated, even though it was an inexpensive thing to do. The thought, as they often say, is what counts.

Back on track with the thread! :-)

The floor stand is mounted. No problems at all. Should post some pictures of it, but the thread was missing. Will do so tomorrow.

Tomorrow (or technically later today) I will call in my brother in law to assist me with hanging the TV on the stand.

Hopefully they gave moxxey some champagne glasses to go with it too.

So he can really appreciate the 4k difference.

I'd love some champagne if I bought a TV.  Lucky bugger.

B&O should have licensed the Video Unlimited 4K service by Sony so you can d/l and watch the available 4K content.  I'll be interested to see what online services the Avant has access to.

I bet the 4K nay sayers were also BR (1080) nay sayers and DVD nay sayers.

We have on this forum said so many times that B&O are behind the times because they always waited for technology to mature (probably licensing costs to come down), but now they are at the front of it, we should be happy.

There will always be future tech, so just pick the one that you're happy with.  Simplezzzz.

Unfortunately they're too far ahead as the final spec as 4k still hasn't been 100% ratified.

Early adopters & 1st revisions beware. It's one thing saying you can add HDMI 2 & HVEC by a software update..

It's a bit like buying a car and not knowing what fuel it's going to run on.

If the avant was say a 1080p OLED panel , I'd be a lot more impressed.

Didn't someone say that B&O confirmed that HDMI Input 1 was 2.2?

Even if it was OLED, it would still be only 1080.

Early adopters should always be careful.  I'm normally one of them lol.  But without them the tech would not mature IMHO.

Remember when wifi N took a gazzilion years to be ratified but everyone had it lol

It will be HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 later this year when B&O releases the software upgrade for Avant. As of now, it's HDMI 1.4 with HDCP 1.4.

HEVC won't be coming to Avant's internal media player, it requires a hardware upgrade. But you'll be able to use an external source for H.265 / HEVC playback.

Anyone ordered the Avant with the motorized wall bracket?

If yes - how long will you have to wait for that to arrive?

MM i'm not sure if it has prevented any sales, if you were a sales person and the ultimate decision was I am not buying the TV because of a motorised stand wouldn't you merely say we will install it with a fixed bracket until the motorised one comes?  Or say the floor stand?

I agree though it looks beautiful in the promo shots with a motorised wall stand - imagine that weight on your walls ( i nearly spelled balls lol )

I agree its definitely a sign of quality.  What would have been even nicer if B&O actually didn't say Dear Customer, but left that line blank for someone to write when it was going to shipping Dear Michael (in pen).

The signature means to most people that there has actually been someone , a real person, on the line!  It's good.

Even the windscreen of my car has a signature now - I love it, although it can't be in pen lol

Thanx! Good you like them. TV is up and running now. Pictures will come later. No TV watching until Monday when the satellite dish will be installed. Right now playing Swedish House Mafia on Spotify and drinking beer. Very good speakers!

Had some problems installing as it rejected my pin code. A text message to the dealer at 6 AM Saturday evening gave me a new working pin code in minutes. Try that at MediaMarkt etc.

Yes, the hard world. Note the time stamp on my posts, 7 minutes I had it. Big Smile

Her's some pictures of the latest part.  First the TV with the lifting handles still there. They sat in some boxes (the white plastic stuff). This boxes I will keep as they will be perfect to hold the screen if I have to lift it down from the stand (for example moving the TV).

The handles where hard to remove. They had to be pulled straight down, cover the stand plate before you pull hard.
