Just heard from my dealer this afternoon.

Avant production has re-started and my Avant has been prioritised, so will be here next week.

Apparently the issue was to do with the panel bonding, rather than finger marks/smears behind the panel.

Panel bonding? What will happen with the already made units?

Chris:

I had a quick visit at my dealer, and I ordered a Beoremote One for the same price as BEO4, to use with my V1. He will give me a call when it arrives.

I forgot if it will work also with my Beosound 3200 who is in NL/ML with the V1, better give him a call tomorrow.

Do-be-do-be-do. (Frank Sinatra).

Scooby Dooby Doo. (Scooby Doo).

Did you get any estimate of delivery, or is it still somewhere between next week and December?

If you look at the BeoRemote One User Manual at the Customer Service section of bang-olufsen.com, it should work with NL/ML connected systems.

Also that store said the additional remote is "satin" (now I remember the first store said "satin" too - not "silk") - I have no idea what that a satin finish might be .... except no distinct sharpness on the rear ?

The satin finish could be similar to the finish of the table-top plate of BeoSound Essence (there'a a nice production video of it at B&O's facebook page).

elephant:

And my dealers are still saying they can not just order it

Perhaps B&O are having production issues with BeoRemote one Stick out tongue — or perhaps they're waiting for Beo4 stock to run out.

The new remote should be a shelf-item, now that new Beovisions have got the software update to support it!

No, he will call me. I suppose it will be by the end of next week, otherwise he would told me. I for sure drop a line on the forum when it arrives.

About the NL/ML, thanks for the reference

Regarding the beoremote one (too long name..), would it not be nice if we could buy just the metal enclosure separately? Then we could change our remotes as we like - since the plastic part is removable (with all the keys and electronics).

I am imagining colored aluminum, steel (how cool would a rusted steel remote be?) etc

Don't ask me! I'm not B&O :) I'm just passing on the fix and info from my dealer.

They have made some minor chassis changes, I hear, to prevent over-heating (the Avant gets too warm, which is a reason for bonding issues). I might be wrong (covering my back here), but that's what I was told.

Maybe my Avant will be a 'MK2' after all ;)

While at the shop yesterday for beocom 6000 repair, I noticed that the Avant had the contrast screen completely undulating. You could only notice that looking at it from the side.

I called the salesman who couldn't believe it !

The BV11 near it had a completely strait contrast screen from the same angle.

The heat may make waves on the glass !

The remote is very easy to use, but I miss the weight of the Beolink 1000/Beo4.

The only thing I don´t like is the sharp unpolished surface round the small hole on the backside. This is where you press a small pin to open the remote for battery change (like a sim card on an iPhone). If you drag your fingers on the backside of the remote you feel this. I know there a bigger problems in the world, but they could have polished it one more time after drilling the hole.

Went to a different B&O shop and yes you are right.  There is a distinct feel to where the hole is - I would not say it was "sharp" just "distinct" and I agree, a pity.

Also that store said the additional remote is "satin" (now I remember the first store said "satin" too - not "silk") - I have no idea what that a satin finish might be .... except no distinct sharpness on the rear ?

Smile

And my dealers are still saying they can not just order it Angry

Still I might as well wait to see what the other flavours are like !

Correct, distinct is a better word for the hole.

I don't share that issue with my 18s, but B&O are worrying me with these manufacturing problems.

I'm half-tempted to tell my dealer on Monday to put my revised Avant on hold.

I can confirm that ordering for Beoremote one is not available as a single item at this moment in time.

I ordered another 4 Avants yesterday and tried to add an additional remote, but the system was having none of it! Told me one remote per Avant....

This is due to change in the near future - but certainly hasn't yet.

A fast Google on the net, take a look here: http://www.hegeman-audio-video.nl/bang-olufsen/accessoires/20-accessoires/P110-beoremote-1 and another site, but look at the price: http://www.beoshop.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=192

I will now more tomorrow, what the shipment is for my country.

Thanks for the update.

The unavailability of BeoRemote One is a shame, really, as getting a Beo4 makes no sense because 1) the One is coming and 2) Beo4 has outdated names (buttons) for sources – especially if your setup is built around a newer Beovision.

Well, I went ahead and tried to order it Big Smile The system run into errors, because the price for BeoRemote One was 0€ in the system & shopping cart.

So the online shopping sites are misleading. BeoRemote One is up for online orders also on a Finnish dealer's website, and it has been there for quite a while:

http://www.hifistudio.fi/fi/merkki/BAN/bang-olufsen

I asked about this from the dealer, and even though it can be ordered online, they cannot deliver it yet, nor could they tell anything specific about the delivery date. Sad

What's the rush for the new remote? I will order one too, but I am happy to wait until they become available. Beo 4/5/6 are perfectly good remotes in the meantime.

B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.
11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

I need an extra one Big Smile

I would have been happy with a non-joystick Beo4 but they are not available from the stores any more and on eBay.com.au they are a rarity - or require you to buy something to go with them - so I may as well get the Avant Big Smile

Why is Beo4 not a perfectly good remote for me? The answer is in the sources it should handle:

TV

SMART TV

BLU-RAY

APPLE TV

PLEX (modified Apple TV)

MAC MINI

H.MEDIA

HRD (video recordings)

YOUTUBE

RADIO

SPOTIFY

DEEZER

PLAYMAKER (Airplay)

PLAYMAKER via Line-in

BEOPLAY A8

Trying to sensibly assign these to Beo4's buttons (LIST options included) is somewhat impossible, and at least not user-friendly with the available source names.

With Beo5 (and Beo6, now both discontinued), adding & modifying the sources is pretty tedious with the ConfigTool – especially since I have no access to update the software's database, when new sources / products are added. Access to the database is restricted to dealers. Thankfully the ConfigTool has been available for download from unofficial sources, otherwise my dealer would have gone nuts by now setting up & modifying Beo5 to my liking.

Talking about modifying my aged Beo5: I need to use an old PC with Windows XP, and an older version of the ConfigTool (somewhat buggy). On Mac, with Parallels and Win 8.1, I cannot get the ConfigTool to work.

So BeoRemote One is the solution: it has flexible naming and organization of sources (not possible with Beo4) and there is no inconvenience of using the ConfigTool to keep the remote up-to-date.

What's the hurry with BeoRemote One? I am simply in need for a new remote. I've looked into 3rd party solutions and using a 3rd party remote control software on my iPhone out of necessity right now, but I'd much rather have a B&O remote at hand. One that does it all.

That said, I cannot understand the hold-up with such an essential B&O accessory. As B&O's ordering system / policy puts it, there's nothing to be done but to wait — for an indefinite period of time. Which, I have to say, is not a very customer friendly approach from B&O.

Well that's certainly a very detailed response KMA and I can see your frustration. I am sure there is a valid reason why the remote is not yet available. Perhaps in light of the recent production issues around the Avant they are still tweaking the new remotes, which would be understandable I think. We know that they will be available to buy separately soon, so that's great, it's just a matter of waiting a little longer.

I do agree that the Beo 5 config tool in dealers hands was a bit of a disaster! Such a shame because I really liked the design at the time and it's still a favourite of mine as it is very B&O looking I think, and a wonderful concept. But yes, updating it was horrific. I remember the trouble I had with mine, back and forth to the dealer so many times.

The new remote will do very well I think, and it seems the Avant is doing too, aside from some teething problems at incept. Really pleased for B&O.

Not too long to go then KMA, hang on in their, you'll have you're new remote soon.

Regarding the Config Tool, I doubt it's a Parallels issue, more likely a Win 8.1 issue. Have you run all the Windows updates? You could try stopping the firewall too and making sure Defender is off, preferably uninstalling it if you haven't already. Then try again. Wouldn't it be better to just run XP virtually too, and find the latest copy of the Config tool from somewhere? Run the 32 bit version and that should it.

It's new and made for the Avant to begin with. They probably prioritize to have as many remotes with the new set as possible.

I don't like the sharp edges on the top of the remote. If I drag my finger over the top/front edges of the remote it could easily rip the skin. I hope they will smooth down the front edges in later production runs.

Thanks for the tips.

It's definitely a Windows 8.1 problem – I had the Config Tool itself working on Windows 8, but I couldn't manage to copy a working Beo5 configuration from the old XP machine to Win 8. After updating to Win 8.1, the Config Tool stopped working altogether.

Maybe I'll have a stab at it again some day and consult Keith in the Beo5 forum. As it is now, I've pretty much given up on Beo5, waiting for BR One to save the day Wink

I have watched this thread from the start.Yes, I was at the launch and was impressed with the stand the most, and also the price.I thought everything else was nothing special. It never had me saying,I wanted one like other previous models did.

I also recall beoworlders on many occasions complaining, that B&o are so behind in the times, with technology, too expensive etc. They finally jump on the band wagon, and here we are, beoworlders complaining again. This is why in the past that B&o waiting for technology to develop and stabilise itself in the market, were then ,they worked out how to make it easier for their clients to embrace, that was one of the goals of the brand.

Like cars,I would never buy the first mark of anything,as the niggles have to be found and ironed out.Look at a mark 1 bv-7 then a mk-6.its like night and day.The same will happen with the avant, there will be different marks, every time improving, along with a price increase.

Granted it's not built in Denmark and I admit I would rather it was,and would pay more for it.Its like buying a tartan kilt made in England,it's not got the sane authenticity.

I can see why B&o have followed suit,to cut costs and to compete in a struggling market.I admit I am impressed with what you get for the price, compared with what I paid for the original avant 11 years ago.

I think the new avant Will turnout to be a fantastic seller for the brand, and a great tv,when the content, which it deserves, establishes itself, like hd has finally.

I just think we will be on a mark 3 model when it comes into it's own,so sticking with my beovisions for a little while yet.Without the early adopters, and niggles B&o would not have a base to improve on,so good on you all.
