I've hidden the kinect sensor for the Xbox 360 on the pole. When to use it it can balance on the top of the TV.

Michael:

Another thing of interest is this picture, I noticed that it looks like the frets and the aluminium plate might be replaceable easily. It all looks to be connected with rubber mounts.

I expect them to come in other other colours some day.

Michael and others that have received their lovely Avants, what equipment do you have plugged in besides Apple TV.

I'd be interested to hear about if you have cable boxes, blu ray players, etc, and how and where you have positioned these?

I went to the dealer today and met Elephant, the dealer said about the stb bracket, but i thought i'd ask the group and garner their feedback.

Thanks in advance

Michael.

Hi Michael

I would use a cabinet if possible I used stb system 9 for my previous 740 and it's very cumbersome

Me too. I actually ordered a pair of BL 9, delivery for next week. Will look great in black but would be fun to match in white or something perhaps.

Current fronts (BL8000) will move to back and replace my dear BL Pentas that I will have to sell, can't have speakers everywhere Big Smile.

Congrats Michael, what made you order the lab9s as i read some where that you was so impressed with the sound of the avant you hadn't connected your 8000s to it and was thinking of selling them...

was it a change of heart???

@ Daniel - thanks for your post.  I wish we could utilise the CA Modules in the televisions here, but sadly not.  We have to have a separate (large) box - which is exactly the same size and specs as the SKY HD box (i'm quite sure).  Good to see that you're utilising a game console. I also looked back through the positing in case i missed something and saw your post on how you have a room behind as well.

@ Michael - thanks.  I suppose if one has most of their sources via NAS or streaming there isn't much need to connect other devices.  Those rubber stops for the speaker look very much like the ones in the A8, BeoSound8

Well.. The Avant has great sound but sometimes I want more. The BL9 is completely new to me (I have never really listened to them).

I am curious about the ALT and how the speaker sounds overall. I was first thinking about getting a subwoofer but I did not really want one. A pair of BL9 takes care of that issue in a nice way.

On a personal note, I have had some emotional setbacks this year and I try to cope with it. While it is very, very hard - buying thinks helps for the moment.

Very happy to hear that. Look forward to it.

Before my Avant I had a samsung tv, BL 8000 and a rather "slow" subwoofer from Yamaha. I think and hope the BL9 has a tighter and more precise bass sound. Really look forward to it. Even if the speakers looks a little like this guys face :) http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=p6MyeCXmiKw

Hi Michael,

Great to hear about the BL9's I trust they will be really successful with the Avant.  I always wanted the 9's but could never afford them, i'll wait to see how the 20's look and see.

I was saying at Collins Street when i was previewing the Avant, I was telling them how I won that comp with the vertical stand for the V1 for STB Brackets and the Lumitron I won, I sent to you.

Wishing you all the best.  Onward and upward buddy.

The Kinect sensor in place. The middle "MyButton" opens the HDMI for the XBox 360 and the stand is in the start position. This is the best place for Kinect playing and adds some extra distance for the player.

The normal starting position for Audio and Video (and the right "MyButton") turns the TV right towards the corner of the coach. The left "MyButton" starts TV and rotate TV towards left to my SuperSpider chair.

I will try to find a white sock to cover the cables to the XBox 360.

If your still looking into a bluray player I can highly recommend the sony bdp-s5200 it's ridiculously compact but has an amazing picture quality I've only had mine a week and half but it's really good with quick loading times for bluray.

even up scaling normal DVDs look brilliant on it. I can't praise it enough. Here's some further specs for it.

I've just moved from a pair of BL8000 to BL9s, and I think you'll be very happy with them. The ALT tweeters spread high frequencies uniformly over a very wide area, you can get great highs and stereo imaging from all over the room, and the bass is well integrated, tight, tuneful, and deep. No boom or sluggish bass. They don't go as low as the BL5s of course, that's in a class by itself, but they are a satisfying full range speaker.

The other day I listened to mine for the entire day (almost 12 hours), all types of music, and never a hint of listener fatigue. Few speakers I've experienced can do that.

I only use mine for audio, my video setup is non-B&O and completely separate. The nice thing about a B&O TV is it integrates the two seamlessly.

I think people who say money can't buy happiness don't know how to shop!

I have a small Marantz surround receiver, driving an Infinity LCR soundbar under the TV set (heavy aluminum cabinet, actually sounds quite nice), an Infinity subwoofer (which has a one band parametric equalizer built in), and for right now just a cheap pair of old Radio Shack Minimus 7s on stands for surrounds. The Infinity sub can really move some air, I found the mother of all deals on it, it retailed for about $1500 and they were closing them out for a bit over $400.

This setup sounds pretty good. Not as elegant and integrated as if I had a Beovision, but it works well. I finally separated the systems back years ago when I had an AV7000, which was not one of B&Os best efforts, as a surround processor.

Hi Daniel,

I'd heavily recommend this Panasonic T260 as well as the SONY. Panasonic have a reputation for long life reliability and really haven't produced one bad blu-ray model over the last nine or so years! This one is selling for £100 with two models below it from £59. Great design, upscaling AND a punchy sound.

4K upscaling models start at £150 with the T360. Their new model is the first THX approved one and at £550 is designed to give the OPPO's a true fight!

I saw STB Brackets has mounting brackets for hanging the XBox 360 on the back of the Avant, like yours PS3. But it's 160 Pound sterling plus it will add some extra heat, so I will let the XBox be free standing. It's a little bit hidden so it will be OK.

Perfect! I was about starting a thread regarding what bluray player to choose for the Avant, but no need for it. I spotted three players that looks interesting, and you have picked two of them!

The third one is Samsung BDF 7500. http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-audio-video/blu-ray-players/blu-ray-players/BD-F7500/XU

Still away from the Samsung's for Blu-Ray Daniel. Absolute throw a way technology and never really exceeded at making decent performing Blu-Ray products.

You really can't go wrong with either Panasonic or Sony at that price BUT if have the Avant, the 4K Panasonic player would be a better bet at £150 as it's upscaler is terrific and a far better way rather than letting the Avant upscale your Blu_ray discs!

?? I am the first to admit i know nothing about 4k (and frankly not very much about blu-ray either) being a BV11 and V1 owner with a preference for streaming but.... I am finding it hard to believe that the upscaler inside a £150 box is way superior to that which B&O provides in a £6,000 television.

Help me understand why that would be the case.

Hi Berlin,

There's a pretty cool discussion about upscaling from Michael and a few others from what I remember on this thread. It's nothing really to do with price, it's more how the manufacturer handles the upscaling. Remember this is B&O's first attempt at 4K so i'm sure that they are learning from it. And also remember a blu-ray player is just that whereas yes, the Avant is £6k but that of course isn't just for an upscaler it's for the Samsung screen, the components with probably a high percentage of that gone on the speaker system along with its HUGE profit margin too. Who knows what the profit is on a blu-ray player but it's probably less than £10 a unit at that price level!

Have a read through the thread as it's very interesting! Michael's observations at how the Avant upscales compared to his Samsung is very interesting.

The £6,000 includes a stand (say 1K) the speakers (say another 1K) the UHD screen and a BS4 engine.

So probably the real comparison is between the video processing of the BS4 and BluRay player.

Remembering the BS4 engine also includes audio processing for all the potential WISA and non-WISA speakers, and various streaming supports.

Are you guys asking me to buy the 360 bluray to compare the avants scaler to the bluray players? Big Smile

Perhaps B&O have the same opinion about scaling as with "HD" audio tracks? Namely to let the external devices decode and send true PCM.

I believe the Avant do scale quite well but I have not watched a lot yet. A bluray player that scales media to 4k and that knows what kind of media it has to work with can probably do a nice job.

Anyway we can then believe the reviews of the players. Since the tv can be as ignorant as it wants (almost) with the signal. Remember that the Avant will still color correct, light correct and motion... Correct (with auras and other funny things).

Time to sleep. Good nightSleep

On the Avant, the XBox etc will hang on the TV itself. One of the back covers will be replaced with a grid on which the device will be hooked.

Ok, I see now why the heat concern.

If an Avant on a stand is very hot, how about an Avant on a wall ?
