I can't imagine the Avant without speakers! That's like watching a magician perform a magic trick without any magic!

B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.
11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

Some people want the convenience of an integrated tv and others prefer the flexibility of a monitor. It's not that the Avant should be offered without speakers, it's really that some folks would like B&O to offer a new monitor.

I launched this idea of an avant without speakers because I think it will be less expensiv than to start from scratch in order to offer a new monitor.

Maybe I am wrong.

For the ones who wonder where we can put the central speaker on the stand.

It is not really a problem, a simple stand to be fixed under the screen is just needed.

If they launch a new center speaker for a new monitor it will probably be wisa, so no cable is needed between the monitor and the speaker.

I'm not at all convinced that a speakerless Avant would be markedly cheaper. Having just one model allows them to press the price down already, without the logistics, part inventory etc overhead of maintaining different models (remember these are still very small series products, as far as the rest of the industry is concerned).

Besides it is already very cheap for a B&O TV.

I don't consider that the avant is not cheap, I just believe if the price was a bit lower it would probably help some potential buyers to take their decision in particular if they search for a monitor only tv (with bs4 built in of course).

I agree. The option of an Avant without the speakers (though it would take away some of the "magic") would really increase the options for buyers who want to get started on B&O fresh. To tailor their beoexperience from the start. I'd consider an Avant screen, and choose my speaker options along the way. But, I'd imagine that the stand options would need re-designed for those who want the option of a beolab 7.x or other options if B&O really do want comprehensive options for their customers. Maybe they thought of this and decided it was too much $ spend on R&D.

Hasn't B&O discontinued the BeoLab 7.x series as well as BeoLab 10?

That'd mean there are no separate center speakers in the current portfolio...

That is why I talked about 'a re-design' or 'new edition' of those - which I am pretty sure won't be!

@Peter Pan

That would mean another stand - or re-designing the old BV7 stand ;-)

Or an alternative stand from Stbbrackets!

Current setup : BeoVision 11-46 with Apple TV, Sony BDP-S780, Mac Mini, PlayMaker , BeoLab 3 , BeoLab 11 , Beo5 , BeoPlay A8 . B&O product history since 1991: Ridiculously long to list in a signature.

Conclusion :

Too much center speakers kill the center speaker Confused

Do you consider this situation as normal ?

Or b&o has a new strategy, after the mono center speaker (bl 7.4) the stereo center speakers (7.1,7.2,7.6), the real center speaker (stereo + center from the avant) they will probably produce the 5.1 center speaker with the rears built in. Whistle

It all depends on how you want to use a tv/a setup.

Most people want a tv with excelent sound - that is what B&O intended with the Avant.

Those who want more, does buy external speakers (for front and/or rear) and maybe a sub too.

Indeed, it is a pity that you can't just use your old (center) speaker (in fact you could if you only would) and that way can't have 'your' new tv at a cheaper price.

But B&O has choosen to make a tv for the majority - not for a minority (who want to re-use their old speaker(s)).

I am sure that a non-speaker Avant would be a 'bargain' for you, but surely not for B&O - concidering that they would have to offer new external center speakers and stand-options for the few who favourite 'your' solution.

Dear MM,

I do understand what you mean but when I see how much b&o invests in order to produce a motorised floor stand and the "real" use of it in most of cases, I wonder if this is not for a minority.

Ok its magic, ok it's a wonderful piece of technology and know how but how many people have to move their screen to watch the tv.

In every main room I visited the couch is in front of the tv.

Until the previous week, I had a bv 7 40 on floor stand. I still considered that it was very smooth and efficient but I never had the use of it.

A non motorised floor stand would be financially interesting for the majority in this case but it never happened.

This happens again with the avant.

Ok this is an option , but if you need a floor stand you haven't the choice.

Please, keep your magical motorised floor stand and let me dream to my non speaker avant Big Smile

The question is not my personal need but any solution that could help any potential buyer to take its decision of purchase.

Pros and cons.

B&O makes the tv - B&O makes the decisions. Not we!

Well, since B&O does not offer a modular TV solution anymore (like they did with Beovision 4 and 7), from that standpoint I understand the discontinuation of separate center speakers.

However, I'm sure there'll be new B&O customers who'd like to add a projector & a big screen to their setup. For these setups, the BeoLab 7-2, and 7-6 offered a rather neat wall-mountable solution, plus there was also a table-stand option at least for BL7-2, in case there was a shelf / low cabinet under a big screen.

Perhaps a projector is less necessary with the arrival of Avant 85", but for people who want a screen bigger than 85", it would be good to have a B&O center speaker for it. Something that would match the likes of BeoLab 5 and BeoLab 20 in audio, and look good on a wall.

So no, for a setup with a projector, I don't consider the lack of a center BeoLab as normal in the B&O portfolio. There's surely some need for a center-channel-only BeoLab — a speaker people could also use with 3rd party monitors (blasphemy!) connected to the BeoSystem 4.

I'd think a single Beolab 3 would make a great center channel; it has plenty of placement options, and is pretty unobtrusive to boot.

A BL3 would be my choice for a center speaker, if I had a projector solution - or even, if the room and the screen demands it, a BL20.

So no need for a re-launch of a BL7-4/BL10. Besides, if you reallly want one of these, there are plenty of them on the second-life market.
