Hi,
I know the remote for the BS essence can be paired with a playmaker (as mentioned in previous threads), but what can it actually do / control?
Thanks
Toby
It has been talked about before but not in any detail.
Also it mentions it on the B&O FAQ

Good question - I have tried to get an answer to that for some time now.
No one (no dealer) seems to have been informed about this - and the possibilities included.
The only information avaible is the link above.
Very mysterious
P.S. A direct 'pairing' with the Playmaker will not be possible - but some kind of ir-control might be.

The document also has a light mode for home automation, wish that B&O would publish more info on the possibilities.
PhilLondon:Looking at the document, you'll have to set it in Beo4 IR (radio) mode.
Which effect would a 'Radio ir-code' send to a Playmaker have

"Beo 4 Radio IR Code" are the codes sent by a Beo4 when controlling an Audio product.
The Playmaker works with the Beo4.
And what will happen (to/with the Playmaker), if 'you' push the button on the wheel - after putting the remote into 'mode 2/Radio ir-code'?
And what is the difference to 'ir-mode 4'?
I am very eager to learn more about this.

Thank - but not much more than a rather expensive volume-controller in your case.
There must be more to it!
And the 'ir-input port' on the box is still a mystery too
Having read all the FAQ I could find on the essence and the playmaker as well as the manuals, I guess the essence remote when combined with a playmaker will just do the play (i.e turn on), standby and volume, there is no previous or next track option.
You can't 'turn on' a Playmaker.
You have to use a command on the Beo4 (A.Mem = AirPlay and A.Aux = Line In) or just 'throw' something (AirPlay, DLNA or sound from a line-in connected source) at it.
Playmaker, Essence etc...All useless until B&O develop a cross platform media player that can control everything from the interface to the streaming to the media control to the final reciever.
Digital revolution is great. It just does not all work as one integrated system but a string of many systems - some of whcih are not fully compatable with one another or have a habit of dropping out or crashing on one another.
It may be your '10cents' - my Playmaker nevertheless is far from being useless!
But overall, you are right - we are still waiting for that solution from B&O.
Nothing wrong with the B&O hardware. It is the software that "glues" all these standards/affiliations together.
Maybe that is why they are 'getting' more money now?

My reading of the sparse essence manuals says the it plays the last source (e.g. Airplaying iDevice) unless it is "unavailable" in which case it defaults to internet radio.
And that the left hand side of the ring ("<") skips back one unit in the playlist (station or track) or a right hand side (">") click will skip forwards within the playing playlist (e.g. list of internet radio stations)
BeoNut since '75
I have a PM and the Essence remote. It does very little. Will report back tomorrow...,after I sleep off a bottle of champagne this evening :)
But, I'd recommend against it. Easier to control the PM using your computer or iPhone.

Well, I'm back and my feedback is, it's an expensive volume control and fairly pointless, really.
I have a BeoCentre 2 connected to the PM, which both feed the BL18s. I can play a CD via the BC2 or stream audio to the PM.
The Essence remote will control the volume, but won't control the BC2 if it's set to IR 4 mode. Which means you either have to get up and change tracks manually or use a Beo4. You can set it to IR 2 mode, but then that won't control the PM.
It won't control my forthcoming A9 either, apart from volume.
Why then the different ir-modes - some of those 'for future use'??
Thanks for confirming that the essence remote with a playmaker is just a volume control. Was thinking of maybe using it in the bathroom but cannot see the point if I can set the volume with my ipad before having a bath.
Hopefully B&O will at some point in the near future bring out an update and have one app that will work with the playmaker, essence and NL TV’s, but maybe that is a wish too far!
tradingman:How does the remote communicates with the PM? I could not find an IR-Port on the remote
Please check the B&O FAQ or see link, that badgersurf provided on the first page.
There is no 'ir-port' on the remote - unless you call an 'ir-sender' a port.
