I think the designers of this system loved chamber music...
I am listening to Schubert's Death and the Maiden (Der Tod und das Mädchen) on vinyl (a 1975 recording, DG) and it just sounds superb and deeply emotional.
I was listening to a live performance of Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (Michel Legrand) on FM this morning, and voices were absolutely superb as well.

I guess you're happy with your system then?
For the coating agent, I think you'll know when you do it. The video showed just the one coat but it still looked a bit patchy - though wasn't fully dry. After the first even coat, see how it looks and if it's patchy, try another. It looks like it soaks into the material very quickly. I would have hoped that instructions would have come with it.

One thing I don't have is the Beocord. I have two Revoxes, a valve G36 from 1966 and an A77 from 1977. Both mint. Would I be surprised by the quality of the single motor Beocord?
As a B&O recorder, I use a slightly anachronic Beocord 5000 type 4715, yes it works, no it doesn't chew tapes! But it looks nice next to the CDX!
I am about to build a very rare thing, a Stereo Control Box to plug a Beovox 3000 centre speaker on the centre speaker outlet of my Beolab 5000, as shown in the owner's manual. This box doesn't have the phones outlet, unlike the famous Stereo Width Box that is so hard to find!
Not sure anybody has ever seen one - apart from Frede that is!
As I am not interested in using headphones with this system anyway, I don't need the transformer(s). Just a box, a seven position rotary switch and big resistors, which I have sourced on ePay in the UK. So it won't be very expensive to manufacture.
It was an interesting puzzle to solve because you have to reverse polarities of the centre speaker each side of the zero position, and select resistors at the same time. B&O used a special switch that is not available of course.
My electrician days are far away back now, so it took me some time to figure it all out, but here are the schematics and the cabling plan right in front of me.
I'm sure it would have been a doddle 30 years ago!

My Beovox 2500 Cubes are with me!
Not tried yet, but one thing I can tell you is that they are mint, from top to bottom. Very impressive. Not a scratch, the cables are as good as new, even the felt at the bottom looks new. Nothing to clean at all.

Great Jacques. When you get them connected to your Beovox 5000's, try the different settings on the selector switch. It's a subtle but noticeable difference each time. Play with it until you prefer the sound for your location/listening position.

I think the previous owner used to cover the Cubes when unused - was it a B&O dealer's recommendation? - because the upper tweeters are not even dusty, the cones look like new and the peripheral suspension is shiny black. I understand this is rarely seen.
What surprised me the most was the immaculate metal parts. n°82845-82846, so possibly one of the last pairs produced.

If the cubes were used in a clean, dry atmosphere, there's no reason for the chrome to be pitted or damaged.
A bit of rennaisance wax will make a clear seal to prevent any oxidation and will keep them looking new for years to come. I'm building a brass Congeve clock at the moment and used this wax on newly polished brass over a year ago and it looks as though I just polished it this morning. It's amazing stuff.

I haven'"t seen anywhere about covering the cubes when not in use but it will certainly help as there are effectively 3 sides facing upwards to collect dust. Ask someone to make a nice black velvet cover with a B&O logo embroidered on it! I may ask my step-daughter to make some for mine.

Though it is in one of the pictures on the Products pages. Can't see the use for it either? Possibly related to ceiling hanging/suspension or just general tidyness?
Looking at it again, If they are ceiling mounted/suspended, the cover will prevent the cable rubbing on the edge of the base and wearing through.

You are right Dave!The base comes off and the plastic sleeve plugs around the tube end. That's for the hanging position of the Cubes.

The manual isn't on Beoworld for the Cubes. I looked earlier. If you have a copy, can you send it in for inclusion? Many of the vintage manuals are still missing which is a shame. I had intended to go through all of the lists to see what is missing (Excfel spreadsheet list for example) and put out a call to get them sent in but it's quite a big job! I'll get around to it one day.

I'm experimenting a bit this morning. I had to crank midrange speakers a notch down. I will experiment placement options this weekend - it can wait, can't it?
I'm still surprised that all the tweeters work, given what Frede told me about 25 % of them going wrong in average.
Now I really ought to ask my other half about those B&O embroidered covers for the Cubes... I see black velvet with white letters.

My step-daughter started to make some black velvet type Cube covers yesterday but they ended up a bit big. I'll let you know if she finishes them.

There is no logo on mkII and mkIII feet (look more like legs ). The cables I know. Too many speakers here.

Mine are a matched pair of MKII and they each have the logo and Beovox 5000 stamped into 1 fleg of each speaker! I'll have to take them off and throw them away if they aren't original - and I shall have a word with Frede as he's slacking!
Well, mine are matched mkIIs as well. Perhaps it's an earlier production series. I thought no later brushed feet were etched. May we see your feet?

Dave, excellent idea, I might have a a couple of things I could send it but it would be great to have some kind of missing list. The same with the catalogues, It would be great to have a few more of those online, I have a few but they are all online. There are many missing though.

Now listening to some jazz on France Musique (possibly THE radio here in France) and the system sounds good overall, very musical with zero fatigue, with the Cubes just placed on the 5000. When I put the Beomaster 8000 and M70 on, they sound bright!

Funny thing, when I closely inspect pictures of complete Beolab 5000 systems that I've found here and there (mags, the Internet), I always see that:
1) loudness is engaged,
2) treble is slightly raised up.
Hence my question: how do your complete Beolab 5000 systems sound when everything is flat? No loudness, tone controls zeroed.

not on mine - quite. I do use 'Loudness' but treble is at -1 and bass +1. Neutral for treble and bass is OK but that's what it is for me - 'neutral'. I just prefer a slight increase of bass. Reducing the treble also removes a bit of any radio hiss which I get here (on France Musique). Treble grates with my ears, especially with orchestral music. I like to hear and feel the bass of the large strind instruments, percussion etc. A hint of bass gives me that.
I think a lot of this will depend on the room the system is in. I have relatively high ceilings, a completely tiled floor and very little sound deadening materials - like most homes in France I suspect. But, in the UK for example, more people have carpets and curtains (less so than historically now with the advent of laminate flooring) which will deaden the sound to some degree and completely alter the acoustics of a room.
