I hear there a lot of problems on the new avant
what is the latest ?
I am thinking about purchasing one but now thinking of holding on.
B&O have sorted out the challenge regarding the fog that developed on the inside of screen, and they are currently producing revised tv's and shipping them now. If you place an order now, expected delivery will be mid August.
There are still a few minor (?) sw glitches, but these will be sorted out and updated automatically - so there is no need to hold off the purchase anymore.
Not sure when the 85" and 75" will ship, but the rumours indicate August and September.

Raeuber:But I think the main issue is upscaling HD- and SD-sources to 4K, as reported in another thread. If this can't be sorted out by a software-update, early adopters of the Avant can finally throw this TV out of the window and had wasted a lot of money!
No, this can be sorted out via software as it's primarily how the software is controlling the upscaling. For instance, the Oppo Blu-ray player (which has an incoming HDMI port for upscaling other sources to 4K) currently does a better job than the Avant itself.
As I've mentioned before, when the BV7-40 MK3 1080P panel first shipped, anyone who was used to watching SD (in the UK, few HD channels existed at the MK3 launch) suddenly had the same affect Avant users are experiencing now: their upscaled SD content looked worse on the 1080P MK3, compared to the previous 720P MK2 model.
But, B&O solved this through software updates and, by the time the MK4 was released a year later, the upscaling and motion issues had pretty much been resolved and have been ever since.
The Avant upscaling will improve. Sadly I wasn't prepared to 'beta-test' the Avant and wait for these software updates. You know, I like the Avant, but I'm not in any desperate hurry to get it, simply to have an initial downgraded visual experience.

@Räuber - moxxey is right!
You worry too much about that!!
I am more concerned, if the tuners are upgradable for the coming 'H.265 encoded DVB tv broadcast' in a couple of years.

B&O product history since 1991: Ridiculously long to list in a signature.
Hi KMA,
I am not talking about a general support for H.265.
What I meant was the tuner - supposing that this is a seperate module as before.
Will it be possible to change that from the current in MPEG4-standart to a newer with H.265-support (as soon as it will be available) - just as it was before when the MPEG4-tuners arrived?
Or is the tuner in some way integrated in the 'engine' in the new BV's?
This - of cource - is only of interest to those, who use the built-in tuner - not for those who rely on an external tuner to watch tv!
---
But in general I agree with you - I would also have wished for a more modular solution - with an outboard 'engine'. It makes things much easier too, especially if you have several devices connected.
But I do see, that most people just want the integrated solution - the all-in-one tv.
I'm still waiting for a review of the Avant on flatpanelsHD.com though...

I honestly cannot understand how anyone who owns an Avant can't see the clear issues that it has with movement on screen. I've been experiencing ghosting, halos, weird mirroring and motion artefacts on every source SD or HD since day 1. And so has my dealer. I believe that it is an issue with the picture processing and upscaling through the two picture modes ADAPTIVE and MOVIE. Both these modes introduce motion problems. The reason I believe it is these modes that are responsible is because when the MONITOR mode is selected, the motion issues reduce significantly. I'm in correspondence with B&O at the moment who are working on a fix.

I haven't heard of any updates for software to correct the issues you have. I have my Avant on order for delivery Mid-August. The dealer demo'd the Avant and showed me standard broadcast TV, DirecTv (1080i), and UHD from a hard disk reorder/player he had connected. The UHD input of course was the hands-down winner. DirecTv looked really good (better than on the TV playing right next to the Avant, which was the Beovision 12 (Plasma)? All three sources looked good, without motion artifacts. I hope mine looks as good once installed and setup. It'll be installed on the wall with the motorized bracket. Once that's done it's not going anywhere (for repairs). My current reference TV is a Pioneer Elite Plasma. The Avant is up against a formidable contender. It will need to look its best right out of the box!!

The issue you are adressing is with, as you say, motion. I can see these issues very clearly on my Avant too. And I have VERY much more problems with the light level jumping up and down all the time. Not smooth, just from perhaps 30% to 50% and back to 30% etc. If I turn the feature off, then it nicely fades to 100%. Strange. I saw a friends new samsung today and it had an amazing user interface and it had a very good picture performance. I don't know what B&O is doing wrong but it is very strange. And I hope they will adress it in software. But as I said, it is not a matter of upscaling. I have been trying to talk with B&O about this but they won´t give direct contact with developers - which I feel is very strange and very bad. I can only talk with the customer service people that can then forward my emails. I am not so confident that they even care about them - to be honest.
I absolutely agree Michael. I didn't mean that these motion issues are related directly to upscaling. I just wanted to highlight for anyone considering an Avant that there are issues with how it displays movement right now. And hopefully if enough Avant owners are vocal about these problems, the faster they will be resolved by B&O. We all just want the best out of this beautiful TV we have invested in.

And I agree with you ;). I love the TV and I hope it will resolve itself soon. I also want some other enhancements to it such as:• Quick start for audio source (no screen to begin with) just audio. (Also making a "double" source (ie. AppleTV + AppleTV "Sound mode")• Make it possible to switch between VIDEO and AUDIO mode without it changing the stand position (ie. Going from TV to Webradio)• Make it possible to disable the start up logo (I liked it better when the screen was completely dark when it turned on in darkness.) with just the curtain.• Make it possible to have speakers go down as stand moves. Now it waits - but not when turning off, then both speakers and stand move in tandem. • WEBMEDIA must be improved upon massively. Support for streaming services would be very nice. • Bi-directional HDMI for possibility to output to one of the HDMI-ports for projector setup. • Possibility to let the speaker bar stay inside the TV - on stereo sources (audio only, perhaps also video).• That B&O recommends which apps to use for the Digital Media Render(!). I have some other ideas also but lets begin there :)
Yeah I'd agree these would be great additions.
Also I find the image resolution for apps like Deezer and Spotify are terrible. It's a small thing but I'd like to see high res imagery and text for these apps.
Michael I don't have the B&O logo showing on start up. When you turn on the TV what do you press? Normally I'd hit my shortcut for SkyHD or choose SkyHD in the source list on the remote. Which results in the electronic curtains opening to reveal Sky but no logo.
It would be amazing if they released a new stand that integrates the cabling inside it - down the central pillar. So it really appears like it does in the commercial without the black tube of wires out the back.

...........likewise I cannot understand how the artefacts 'solidsnake' accuratly describes cannot be seen by those with UK SKYHD. I focus on SKYHD as it's my primary source for viewing.
My Avant has been returned now. Waiting for the fixes and maybe MKII before ordering a new one.
Sorry to most ....I know SKYHD issue is UK but I'd expect other countries compressed HD source to be the same.
Anyway I hoping for Solidsnake's dealer and B&O to resolve those because I know the exact issues he is having and he deserves them to be rectified.

Thanks jbrown77. I think it is important to note that this is not an issue with just SkyHD. I use my Apple TV and Bluray from my PS4 a lot and the exact same issue is present. In fact one of the worst and most obvious examples is the Star Trek (2009) Bluray. If anyone one wants to see the problems clear as day, have a look at chapter 6 as it includes numerous examples one after another. B&O have told me that they are looking at this as an example of the problem right now.
Apologies for repeating myself from thread to thread but I don't want this problem to get blamed on Sky when it is clearly an issue with the image processing in the Avant that B&O need to address.
It is also interesting to note that the dealers haven't received any of the second batch of Avants yet. And reviewers like flatpanels hd have not received review units yet.

Have you considered using the Oppo Blu-ray player to handle the upscaling from the Apple TV/other sources, as a test? It might do a better job than the Avant and would transfer a 'native' 4K picture to the Avant. The Oppo's upscaling facility is regarded as the best in the business, so is likely to be far better than the Avant at handling this function.

They are shipping now. My dealer told me this morning that they are installing the 'second batch' now. One is happening tomorrow, the other Saturday. Mine is due in the store tomorrow, although I still have the installation on hold.
Dealer also claims there's NOTHING on B&O's system about any (Sky) upscaling/motion issues! And these are issues reported by dealers for B&O to evaluate. So, unless you dealer reports it, it's not on B&O's system to fix.
He also added there's a minor software update which is imminent and a major software update planned for later this year with support for 4K 60Hz etc.

I'm reluctant to buy more hardware just to upscale. Spending 9K on a TV is enough to expect it to do its job very well and not need something else to do the job for it. I'll hang on another few weeks to see what fixes come.
Regarding the shipping situation. I'm just going on what my dealer told me. As of today, he has not received any of the new batch. And flatpanelsHD told me that they still haven't received any review unit.
So I looked at the OPPO Moxxey, on your advice... including a conversation with the tech team on it. Came away impressed with the product and confident it would be an improvement over what the Avant gave me. Plus looked at STB bracket for it.
........but then I engaged brain and said to myself why should I have to buy a £500 extra for a £7k TV because it isn't performing its primary function properly.
......that was before the Avant went back and was fully refunded. Nice little temporary £469 samsung 40" FHD bought to replace the Avant (without motion issues) :-)
Anyway OPPO goes on the agenda to try when I decide to order another Avant. Thanks for the tip Moxxey.

Definitely shipping. Mine is one of the first from the second batch and is due in to my dealer today. They are arranging another install from the new batch, too.
Now I have to decide whether to accept it or not. Dealer suggests I should give it a go, so tempted. Preliminary install now scheduled.

Here’s an idea..
Use the optical out from ATV to the spdif’s Avant, and configure the spdif to a music source. Now you have video from the hdmi-output, audio from optical output. Now you can avoid the extra P.MUTE -command, and SPEAKER - mode.
Unfortunately you need an extra convertor for optical to spdif, but there should be enough room in the back of the tv. And an extra ir-eye, for the music source of the ATV. That's because one ir-eye can only be configured to one source.

If you only need it for AirPlaying music, there is no need for the 'extra ir eye'.
Just configure the S/P-DIF IN as a source, name it, assign it to a command on the RemoteOne.
You could even use one of the 3 magic buttons for that!
Remember to set up a Speakers Group (probably the frontspeakers) as default for that source - and the prefered Sound Mode.
Push the button - start AirPlaying.
The screen will be blank, but not muted. If you want that, you would have to push the P.Mute.
Just crossed my mind!!!
If you turn on the tv with these settings including P.Mute, sound level and stand position, and then use one of the 3 buttons to make a 'snapshot' of that, you could even create the perfect way to use an AppleTV for AirPlaying music on the Avant.
I'm disappointed to read about the quality issues, and will obviously consider the BV11 now looking at how poorly it is built. One of the main attributes i love B&O AV gear for is the quality!!!!!
Such a shame because the aesthetics really work in my opinion, maybe they were over zealous in their attempt to make it "affordable".
Also, where are all of the photos showing it in its glory>? So far i've only seen one person unpacking one in a thread!
I've missed the forums, it's great to go back through the threads and catch up! :)

Well, give it a few weeks before making a decision and judge after people start receiving their Avant from this 'second batch' which is starting to hit dealers from this week. Installs should be happening today onwards. The second batch fixes a few initial hardware (stand, chassis) teething problems and software updates should fix everything else.
I asked my dealer - who in turn asked B&O - if they could offer me a BV11-55 instead of the Avant, they didn't even get back to him. He asked twice. So, I'm assuming that's a 'no'.

I am stil tempted at the Avant now waiting for my dealer to have a look at Atlona and Gefen 4x2 matrix
all this will need programming with the beo5 or the Beoremote one
I like the Avant but do not want to lose the cinema option which i currently have.
I may also keep the BV7 MK3 as the offers are very low for the amount of tv thats on offer.
I am hoping someone out there is already using this kind of setup

Reading on forums is like diagnosing sickness with google: it makes you crazy :).
And remember that forums breed negativity. ie. people usually only bother saying something, when they have something to say. Satisfied people are always less likely to bother to comment. So forums can give a warped sense of (negative) perspective.
On a sidenote, ran in to my dealer at lunch and he says my revised Avant came in this morning.
Dave:Also, where are all of the photos showing it in its glory>? So far i've only seen one person unpacking one in a thread! I've missed the forums, it's great to go back through the threads and catch up! :)
Thanks elephant, you're very kind :)
I'll re-iterate... I'm surprised at a) the negativity, and b) the level of problems experienced so far, why wouldn't B&O rigorously test before releasing? Yes the Today's the day thread is huge.
Anyway, i'm by no means making any concrete decisions i'm merely verbalising my inferences so far based on the info presented.
I've actually had a bit of a B&O detox the past year or so, selling some of my items which i always dreamed of owning including the BV9... seeing the e-mail from B&O about the AVANT really piqued my interest in B&O again, i genuinely hope it turns out to be the trojan that the original AVANT is (which i still have the but the DVD has given up sadly). The latest items since David Lewis' unfortunate passing haven't been my cup of tea at all... the only exceptions being the A9, the BV11 and now the AVANT
