Hi,

I just got the answer from Beocare regarding if BS5/BM5 will downscale 24-bit audio to 16-bit audio.

Now we know that there is no meaning of playing hi-res-soundtracks on the BS5/BM5. This is really bad, I think. THIS IS NOT A HIGH-END PRODUCT. Why dont they mention this on the "technical specs" on their website?

Read the answer below:

Hi Martin,

I am very sorry to have kept you waiting so long. I have been away on holiday and was not able to reply sooner.

I have checked with the Technical Product Manager for BeoSound 5 and he informed me that FLAC files will be downsampled to 44.1 kHz/16 bit if higher resolution.

I hope this answers your question - otherwise, do not hesitate to contact me again.

Kind regards,

Ina Bang Andersen (Ms) | Customer Service

This makes me think that my solution of using an Olive One with a first generation  Beomaster 2000 and S45’s may be a much better high end option than I thought possible.

True enough! The BS 5 down samples to CD quality.

I have several Linn Studio Master downloads. I'll admit that I am just as likely to use the Olive One for internet radio as anything else. The high quality streams are better than CD.
