Hi,
Having given up trying to get my MacMini connected to my BV7 to talk to the BV6. I've moved onto connecting a Gen3 AppleTV to the BV6 via the DVI using a HDMI to DVI adapter.... but I now get a flicker on the screen. About every 2 seconds the TV flicks. When it is not flicking the picture is perfect. The tv is connected as a link TV if that makes any difference to anything. Also in the connections menu I don't seem to be able to change anything??
Any thoughts please??
Thanks, Andrew.

Hi, I think it might be something to do with the TV not being a HD model. The Apple TV works fine with the BV7 we have. When I goto to the service menu I don't have an 'Activate Picture Settings'??
I've played about with the apple tv resolution settings but with no luck.
It's odd as the whole screen flicks and then returns to normal for a moment.
Thanks for the suggestions so far...

What were you trying to accomplish? I may have just ordered a PUC to accomplish same what you were trying, so hope that it may work?

I may have the same issue, but can live with it. When switching to my macmini (connected with hdmi-to-dvi adapter), I am getting a full-screen flickering for 2sec. After the 2sec, it disappears and all works well. I was told that it is just that these old BV models came from a time when DVI was still in early stage. But given that it is just 2sec and only when switching to the macmini, I am fine and can live with it. If you find a way thought o get rid of it, it would be appreciated if you can share back.
In one of the hidden menus there may be a setting to change the prefernce type of the DVI socket to HDMI, on occassion this has worked for me on Bvis 7s MK I II.
From what i've been reading its the AppleTV that is punting out a format the TV cannot cope with. So that's a dead duck. I might think of getting a Gen1 ATV as that has component out.
:-(
Anybody know of a device that will convert dvi to scart???
elephant:Steve ... If you are getting a PUC for your MacMini then I think you will need to get some additional OS X sw ... Once Apple retired front row it was less easy / useful and hence my preference for the ATV
This would be horrible news. I actually need the MacMini and not just an ATV - to run xbmc and other apps. Any way how to get the PUC working? What additional software would be required and did you get it working in the end?
Any more insights on above? Really no way of using BV5 PUC with MacMini witout additional software? What additional software will be required? Thanks in advance!
Sorry i'm a bit lost with the abbreviations, by PUC do you mean the codes for the TV to control the MacMini via the IR? If so then, then they can be installed. At least on the BV7 they can. But as has been said with no FrontRow you'll need something like PLEX installed. It has a preference that can get it to launch with the menu button on the AppleRemote being pressed. On my B&O remote, it's the exit butting. There after it's fully controllable from the remote. PLEX is infinitely better that FrontRow ever was.
Does that help at all?

I use PLEX, however I have the server function on the MacMini, and I run the client on an IPad, and then I AirPlay from the iPad to the Apple TV.
I ended up with that solution after OS X lost Front Row ... up to that point I was able to use the IR PUC from the BV to the MacMini - and have the BV translate the IR codes from the Beo4 to the Apple Front Row / Apple TV codes - including the MENU key which is equal to the Beo4's EXIT key.
Before I settled on PLEX I did try XBMC, however I found PLEX easier to install, maintain, and run.
It's great, i've the same set up with the mac mini as the server, but it also has the Plex HomeTheatre installed, hence I can control it with the Beo4. For everything else on the mac mini I use MousePro on iPhone or iPad. The theatre will run on the exit key being pressed.
I tried remote buddy but found it very confusing, compared to using MobileMouse

Brilliant, this is a bit relief. I am trying to accomplish the same that AndrewEcosse is doing. Just with XBMC instead of Plex, but this should not make any difference as they basically use the same keymap.
I am looking forward to my PUC to arrive and then manage XBMC through my Beo4.
Hi Steve, when you say waiting on your PUC to arrive? Is it not a command loaded onto the TV? XBMC looks good. Is there a command in it to allow it to run from a remote input?
Yes, it is typically loaded in the television. I still have a BV5, so quite an ancient television. Something needs to be installed and it is being shipped from Denmark. I am not sure what this really is, but it is the same thing that you are referring to.
