I use a set like this with the build in extension you can reach about 200 mm, make sure you get a set with the very small Inhex 0.7, 1.0 mm and so on

Tip, I got the motor DEAD QUIET

I took the motor apart, cleaned the axel and the bearing with cuetips sooked in alcohol, lubricated the bronze bearing with lots of sewing machine oil.

When I but the first housing on, I could feel that it limited the rotors ability to move abit to I put the washer , instead inbetween the motorchassi piece and the house, see image.

put the  BC1800, in its metal chassi with the motorhousing taking the gravity force from my wooden table and started it on 19 cm /s and it is absolutly quiet.

My re-capped M75 are my precious diamonds.

What you did is not really obvious. Can you develop a little please?

These PAPST motors are always very quiet I find. What produces noise is the idler wheel.

Ok I will explain better

I asume you understood the basic of cleaning axel and bearing.

The little washer was orginally mounted in classic way, under the screw-nut. but I moved it into being a distance between the housing and the big plate.
I have enlarged the image bellow.

Now this is my theory why it became silent.
My theory is based on some basic physic principals.

The anoying sound is a vibration
The vibration  from from the total elements involved is a physical feedback between the elements - motor - idlerwheel -chassi
The properties of the elements together create a feedback frequence.
If you change the properties of any of the elements, the feedback/vibration will change.
Either you get a softer or harder idlerwheel, which is a change of the idle wheels properties. - or you change any of the other elements properties.

In my case, making the rotor to move - just slightly easier by adding a distance changed the total feedback frequence of the elements together.

The serie  motor-idler wheel- chassi was most likely dead quiet from factory, but I think that nobody could predict how easily the serie-effect could change if any of the individual properties would change a bit. - something the engineers would not predict
In this specific case, it was sensitive.

If you would go into detail, the chain is even more complex then motor-idlerwheel-chassi.
current, bearings status, lubrication, two set of rubber isaltions, that will change its properties with time, two sets of metal housing that might been design on the limit, idlerwheel rubber propertis. most likely even more things to consider.
A magic combination that worked on the designers workbench but  was sensitive....who knows. ???
A mathematical algoritm, nobody could predict...

Now , I am not trying write an scientific article around this that I espect being a dead-end thruth, - this is just my specualtion, why it became silent.

You know Søren, you are overly modest as you are much too well organized to be “running around in circles.”

That you are both excited and a bit apprehensive is understandable, but knowing you, you are on top of this project….. can’t wait to hear your next progress report! Yes - thumbs up

O yes, but a simple explanation could be that you by changing the motor mount angle you compensated for wear on bearing and angle of the contact point of the idler wheel. What ever it was, it worked and thats the main thing with these old wonderful devises,

BTW nearly nobody here in Mexico has seen, not to speak of used , one of these RtoRs, I demonstrate it frequently, grabbing from the radio (BM 1000) and then playing from the BC showing them that Tape is engaged. I just have to get microphone, thats goanna blow them away.

Getting a B&O mic. would of course be ideal. But does any of you have a suggestion for another brand.

OMG, corrected by a Frenchman who obviously speaks and reads English better than I. How embarrassing.

Yes Jacques Embarrassed I definitely intended to say mesmerized NOT memorized.

Perhaps I should have been memorizing how to spell “mesmerized.”

The cold and hard truth is I am pretty close to the worst speller on the planet. This was merely a typo that spell-check couldn’t (and I didn’t) catch.

In my sophomore year in collage I had a term paper undiplomatically shoved in my face by an irate professor who wrote on the cover page in bold RED letters that “all three ways you attempted to spell [XYZ] are WRONG. How the hell did you get this far?”

Mortified as I was, it did help that the professor’s name was Dr. Charles Wrong. (Snicker unrepressed.)

I would love to promise that I’ll do better in the future after this correction, but my gift for slaughtering the English language with colourful but misguided attempts at proper spelling has not lessened with age.

Why thank you Jacques for the generous compliment, something I will treasure for a very long time.

Believe it or not, I was the editor for 3 minor publications over the years and due to my talent for poor spelling I routinely had my work checked by an employee prior to publication. This employee was an august patrician who was as gifted in finding my spelling errors as I was for sneaking them in. Stealth miss-spelled words are my specialty.

Max, the long suffering employee told me he genuinely looked forward to the week prior to publication just to see what I would do next as an insult to the entire education system.

I also had a supervisor when I worked for the Chamber of Commerce who told me when I resigned for a better position that she was really going to miss my monthly reports. “”All the others are so dry and dull, but I always look forward to reading yours, you put fun into your reports.”

Ironic humour would be more accurate in seeing what I could get away with. Thankfully, my supervisor shared my sense of humour.
