"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
Don't want to high-jack this thread, but my issue is very related. I have my MacMini attached to my BV5 only using stereo (scart-in). My BV5 is a later model with DVI, so it even comes with optical digital in (at least that's what I want to believe...). Unfortunately, neither my dealer nor I can get it to work using this digital-ins, so we just left it with scart (stereo only). I don't use 5.1 as I don't have any external speakers, so I didn't bother too much.
Is it worth for me to try the electrical-digital-in? Would this work in combination with the DVI? Will this have any difference in quality if I don't have external speakers or if I don't have more than 2 external speakers (I am thinking to buy BL12.3).
Thanks in advance!!!
I have some related question. I own a BV5, which is connected to my MacMini via DVI (video) and scart (audio). As a result, I also have stereo-only. This is not such a big deal as I don't have any external speakers connected anywayy.
My BV5 actually has optical-digital-ins, but I never got them to work when using DVI (video) at the same time. I also had my dealer try and he also didn't get it to work despite several tries.
From what I read above, it may be worth to give it a try with electrical-digital-in as well? A few questions:
1) Is my understanding even right that DVI/RCA-phone could give me HD video and 5.1 sound? Which input would you suggest me to use that it works in combination with a DVI video input?
2) Is there an improvement if just using the BV internal speakers? What about if I attach 2 external ones? I am about to buy BL 12.3 speakers to attach to it.
3) I was unaware that the phono-jacks are actually digital-ins. If so, could I even attach my MacMini via phono-jacks to my BC2, which is attached to my BV5. What I would be hoping from this setup that the BV5 turns on automatically when playing audio on the MacMini (i.e., sense signal from the phono-jack of the BC2 to turn on the BC2 and then the BV5).
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
Interesting to read about the electrical digital in. I have the HD-ready BV5 and video connected to DVI (mapped as DVI). How would I need to configure my BV5 and which electrical-digital-in could I use to have digital audio? I currently have only stereo by connecting video to DVI and audio to scart. Thanks!
lawrencejmcook:Hi Steve, I have the non-HD BV5, so I can't give you precise instructions. As mentioned in my posts below, the /PDIF digital in sockets look like RCA phono sockets, but in black instead of the usual red or white. If you consult your user manual, or look at your socket panel on the back of the BV5, you should see them. Or post a pic of the socket panel here, and au should be able to point them out to you. L

Thanks for your message. Yes, I found them. There are two on the back and one on the side (next to the DVI). Unfortunately, they do not work for me in combination with DVI. Please let me know how it goes with you once the leads arrive. Also, please let me know how you configured them to work in the connection menu. Thanks in advance!!!

I will not comment on above and assume the forum moderators are acting soon (if they have not already done so).
Would still love to get some support from the friendly global B&O community. Thanks and appreciated!
