Hi
It does not looks like we are going to get Spotify Connect for BS5 ;-(
However, does anyone know that the cheapest system is that I can get to have Spotify Connect?
I then want to attach the system to the USB interface of my BS5, so I dont need a Spotify Connect speaker.
Just like PM or Airport Express with audio out, just also including Spotify Connect.
Thanks.
You mean something like this:

Or just use the Essence-box

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Yes, that looks more like it. Thanks.
And to that price, one can still wonder why BS5 can not handle Spotify Connect.
Besides the license most likely.
Spotify Connect App for windows and Mac has been released in a Beta version, so it is definitely possible to run on a windows based machine.

Hi,
I think that since yesterday the CONNECT feature is officially integrated in the normal Spotify desktop client.
Since BM5 is Windows based I had success to install that via service menu and use it in background via A.AUX.
Seams to work well as far as I can see.
So this is a solution that will actually cost you nothing and sounds much better than the USB interface with external hardware. But remember that you are doing this on your own risk!
BR,
BeoMotion.
@BeoMotion
Does that mean that you'll have to switch to A.AUX manually?
What does the screen show - i guess just A.AUX, or?
@MM
Yes, you have to switch to A.AUX manually and unfortunately you won't have any coverart since it has nothing to do with the BS5 software.
So it is similar to the "AirPlay mod" with shairport4W.
If you are using the CONNECT feature you are already holding the spotify app in your hand and won't really need the BS5 display.
Of course an Essence might be better for this purpose but if you already have a BS5 this is a good compromise. Of course the sound is also available through ML...
BR,BeoMotion.
What a waste of hardware and money to use a BS5 for that.
But if you already have that 'pretty thingy' hanging on the wall, I guess it is allright.
So thanks for the tip, anyway.
I installed it on the following way:
- open service menu- download Google Chrome since the IE seems to be too old for loading the Spotify HP- download the Spotify windows client and log in with your account- open the spotify preferences and activate MINIMIZED autostart, maximal playback quality and maybe disable HW acceleration (otherwise it may cause problems if shairport is also installed)- CONNECT feature is automatically activated- leave the service menu
In fact it is running in background all the time and you will hear the music on all audio sources if you forgot to stop the CONNECT stream from your handheld. A.AUX is preferred since this is the only source where BS5 won't enter standby mode if no content was played during the last 10 minutes or so. (BS5 does not recognize that you play music through the "external" Spotify software...)
So it is not a very "clean and perfect" solution but seams to work if you can live with this compromise.
It seems there are many of us who wish spotify connect to beosoun 5.
why not write an email to Bang Olufsen, to ask if this can not be so difficult now to introduce ??

Hmm, could be nice if this Spotify for PC update is what B&O has been waiting for in order to enable Connect on BS5......
OK, I am dreamning, and I will try to enable this woraround soon.
Thanks for the tip
Great Solution - It works!!!
Mabye B&O will implement the feature in the next OS Release :-)
Just installed it, and it works perfect. Thanks a lot.
Now the BS5 has my own music collection in FLAC (CD), I have the radio (RADIO), I have the built in Spotify (using it for new and top albums only) (A.MEM), and with A.AUX I have Spotify connect, AirPlay (using a Behringer USB) and DNLA streaming (using Creation5).
Starting to be a pretty well featured media player for me at least.
All I need is a BS5 app to control all the stuff. = Nice to have.
In addition, and maybe as the only one here, I use the BM5 to my TV for slideshow of all our pictures. It streams perfect and is very fast in 1080p resolution.
I wonder if there is some kind of workaround to get Spotify Connect working on only a Beomaster 5. The BM 5 hasn't the A.Aux option or Spotify.
in theory that should work on a standalone BM5, too.You could use the N.MUSIC source and press the stop button before you start the spotify connect stream.
The problem you might discover here is that your system will switch off automatically after some time since it thinks that nothing is played. It could be possible that there is a value in the registry that can be changed to expand this auto-standby-timer.
There are a lot of changeable values and it might take some time to find the right one.Only do this if you know what you are doing :-)
You could also try the source A-PC (or PC + P.MUTE depending on your RC firmware). I don't know if the standby timer gets activated on this source too...

I remember your suggestion some time ago. It made my Beo6 work with showing covers.
But it became unstable. And if I remember correctly, there needs to be a second screen if you trigger the BS5 functioning, didn't it?
Late to the party here...
I'm considering adding Spotify Connect to my BS5, but I have a question about turning on A.AUX. The BS5 is "slaved" to a BS9000. Therefore, when I press A.AUX, it activates the BS9000's aux input. Is there a way to active A.AUX on the BS5 (without making it an audio master)?
Also, are we quite sure that B&O isn't going to do this on their own? Has the BS5 been "end of lifed" now that the Moment has been out a while?
thanks in advance,
Stan
Hi Stan,
Hope this helps.
Martin.
How do operate BeoSound 5 in a system with another audio system using Beo4?
When BeoSound 5 is set up in a system with another audio system (that is when AUDIO MASTER is set to NO on BeoSound 5), you can activate following sources using your Beo4 remote control:
How to active a source with Beo4 ...
Beo4, type 171x (with navigation button)
Thank you for this. I guess I can proceed with Spotify Connect install..
I finally found the time to do this, and it didn't work .
Spotify installs, but when it starts, it just disappears / crashes. I believe it may have something to do with the fact that I use facebook athentication. The first time Spotify runs, it asks for my credentials, and then it goes away. When I try to use facebook authentication from the Spotify app, I get an error about not being able to reach the internet. I tried using a deviceid / password, and that didn't work either.
Question 1: Has anybody tried this recently? I'm wondering if the BS5 is too ancient for the recent Spotify app.
Question 2: Does anybody know how to move from Facebook authentication to non-Facebook authentication, or have you made this work using Facebook authentication?
I just had a thought that facebook authentication may work if I make Chrome my default browser... I will need to give this a try...
Thanks in advance,
Bad news: I installed the Spotify app on another computer and logged in with my deviceid/password, and it works fine. I think this should eliminate any network security, firewall issues (since the BS5 is on the same network). However, logging in with the deviceid/password on the BS5 results in the Spotify app crashing :(.
I'm open to suggestions.
PS - there was a post missing that was in moderation where I explain that I've followed the instructions in this thread, but it's not working. The post is now visible.
I just did a recovery on my BS/BM5 to find out whether I can reproduce this.
I downloaded the Spotify Windows installer on a normal PC and then transferred it via an USB stick to the BM5. After launching the installer on BM5 spotify was downloaded and installed properly.
I was able to sign in with my credentials and everything worked like before. Including CONNECT.Everything is stable and no crashes but I have to add that I never used the facebook login function. Maybe this is the reason?
Did you install Chrome on your BS5?
That's the only difference I can think of that might matter. There should be no difference in installing from a downloaded vs. ubs version of the install program. A program is a program. When I login using my deviceid and password, then facebook is not involved, yet still crashes.
I guess I will uninstall Chrome and try your installation approach.
Tried uninstalling Chrome and installing Spotify via USB. No luck
Stan: Tried uninstalling Chrome and installing Spotify via USB. No luck Stan
That is strange.
I don't think that is has something to do with Chrome as I tried it with and without.
Maybe you want to try a recovery / factory reset of your BM5?Before you do this, please make sure that your recovery is at least version 5.00 or higher. Otherwise you will stuck on the old recovery version and no updates are possible.
How do you check the version of recovery? I read about that problem so I have been treading very lightly because I do't want to be stuck on an old version.
Thanks,
You can see this within the "normal" service menu (not the windows desktop) under "product info".
BM5-OS-IMAGE should be the initial / recovery software your BM5 was shipped with. This one is reinstalled if you perform a factory reset / recovery.
I successfully recovered my BS5, and then re-installed Spotify, and same result - Spotify crashes with no error shortly after logging in (I know it is logging in because when I supply a bogus userid/password, it fails to log in).
However, now that I had a safety net (because recovery worked), I started randomly clicking the .exe files in the Spotify install directory (Spotify.exe, SpotifyLauncher.exe, WebHelper.exe, etc.), and it started working. I tried a number of times to find the reproduceable sequence of .exe clicks, and I couldn't get there except by just kind of clicking around until it worked. Kind of a pain, but, what the heck, it works!!! (after I remembered to turn off audio master which is what it defaulted to after the recovery). I think my BS5 reboots every Sunday night so I may have to repeat these steps weekly, but we'll see.
Thanks for the help BeoMotion (and the others earlier in this thread).
I was streaming from an iPhone via an Airport express, but the coverage was spotty in the back yard. Hopefully, this will work better.
Great that you got it working finally and letting us know your solution. :-)Indeed a strange behavior and I really don't know why...
Stan:I was streaming from an iPhone via an Airport express, but the coverage was spotty in the back yard. Hopefully, this will work better.
Should be much better and much more responsive. The only back draw you have compared to a "real" CONNECT device like the A9 is that controlling the desktop client is only possible from within your local network and not via 3G. But even on a bad wifi network it works flawlessly.
lano:When I tried Spotify connect the BS5 turn of after a while (30 min?). Is this due to no input on AUX or what it something else?
Okay, this is something I only had with a BeoMedia and the N.Music source where I pressed STOP to prevent hearing CD and spotify at the same time. Can you confirm that you are using the A.AUX source on your BS/BM5 combo?
I've been having the same issue today. If I didn't have A.AUX enabled (N.Music, Go, 2), then it would play normal N.Music, no? The BS5 shows a "Paused" screen.
My BS5 is NOT an audio master, but I don't know why this should matter (but sometimes it does).
I think it happened to me last night when listening in my back yard, but I blamed it on my wireless1 (and it could have been my wireless1 which is sometimes spotty).
I have now installed both Spotify and Shairport4w on the BM5. Works really well, doesn't turn of and good sound quality.
I have a dedicated Spotify account on one of the iPads and the same account on the BM5 so easy to start and no conflict when away and using the private account.
Shairport4w makes it possible to stream AirPlay onto the ML/NL system (audiobooks etc).
MLGW and Beolink app gives me the possibility to start both Spotify and AirPlay in link rooms. I can also activate AUX on older Beolink passive and Beolab2000 via N.Music AUX in the MLGW. Everything controlled with an iPad😀
Thank you so much Beomotion !!
With your solution I can now control Spotify with my smartphone. Nothing else to do, I just have to Unblock the Exe file of Spotify (Property and Unblock), because nothing happen when I double clic on it.
It's working on any platform with Spotify (PC, Tablet, Smartphone).
And I don't need to re-program my Beo6, I already have the A.Aux at the second screen in all of my configuration.
It works perfectly and there is always the Beosound'Spotify choice but I don't think I'll use it now !!
