Great, it works! I think B&O should make this information part of its user guides - the spotify app on the BM 5 is a real drag without the "connect"-functionality, I was close to returning my center to the shop to have it sold, quite happy with it again :-) Thanks, Beomotion
Hi,
I tried to follow your suggestion but when I try to connect to google to download Crome, internet explorer tells me it can't connect to the internet (despite I know it is connected to the internet)??
Any suggestions, hints or tips?
BR
Please se ignore this post. I managed to install it through a USB stick and it works well.
I am dealing with this right now... the B&O rep came to my house and confirmed that B&O will not update their support to the Spotify app and admitted about all the bugs they have. For example, Spotify Playlists no longer work on the Beosound5.
I tried your approach but unfortunately, my BeoMaster isn't connecting to BeoConnect - need to debug that one first

No need for 'debugging' there.
The BeoConnect is not supported in newer OS.
Map the BM5 drive on your PC/Mac instead and drag and drop your files from there.

We inform you hereby that the Spotify functionality in the near future will be removed from the BeoSound 5.
This change does not only affect Bang & Olufsen products, but also includes other brands that use the Spotify implementations. In addition, Spotify will also send a message to customers who use products to which the amendment refers.

Again, where's the information coming from ?

Will it get Deezer instead?
No, the solution is to connect an Behringer UCA 222 with an Chromecast Audio or an Essence

Spoke to my B&O dealer today, and he confirmed that the Spotify support for BS5 is being discontinued.
sad news really. Makes the BS5 a limp product. Looks like the BS Moment is the next natural progression. Still like the look of the BS5 better.

I bought mine end 2015 from a b&o dealer in vienna. So my beosound5 is not that old. It´s a big shame for b&o if there is no Spotify function in the software in the future. This was the reason for the purchase.
BS Ouverture, BS 9000, AV 9000, Avant 32 DVD, BV9, BV6-22, BS 5, BS 4500, BS 7000, BC 9500, Beo6, BL Penta, F1000, BLGW, etc....
Don't know if is any use, but I have disabled auto software updates on BS5. The unit still works, although slow...
Lets just hope that the B&O push Deezer on to the BS5 (I know this is a very long shot), as I have a deezer account for my Moment already so would allow for some symmetry between the two products.
That is pretty much how the app in the tv's behave, too.
A pity for those, who are fond of using playlists.
But for me (and maybe for others) no big deal.
As long as I can search for what I need, I am fine....
....and they could keep it so on the tv's.
@Duels- mine is behaving in a similar manner, although occasionally I can get in to the playlist mode. If I edit or create a new playlist on my iPhone, it does appear on the BS5, but only after a while.
Playlists and favourite is still working, and you can still add new playlists on iOS Spotify
I tried Spotify via BS5 this weekend, and I had to reboot my BS5. Just going into Spotify mode did this . Last few times I tried, it sort of worked if I stayed out of playlists. I guess it's probably Spotify changing their API all the time, and B&O not keeping up with an out of production product - the joys of "cloud based applications".
I guess I'm glad I have a $40 google chrome audio connected to by BS9000 (so I can control via phone / spotify connect) so I don't really need it, but I thought I'd do a sound quality comparison. Obviously, the music play via the chrome audio sounded better than the BS5 rebooting

Bad news: There was a newsletter last week or so to all dealers. Spotify will removed from all b&o products till may 2017. (i think the spotify connect feature will be remain because b&o recommends to buy a beosound mk2 essence to hook up to the beosound5 with a usb-Behringer UCA222. (info from beo”care”)

I agree that if it doesn't work, they should fix it. I didn't expect the "fix" to be remove it, but I guess I can understand there are probably support issues with the BS5 and the old Windows OS that it runs.
Spotify connect *must* remain as this is the main reason I bought my Essence.
I don't really understand why. I adjusted the playlists the other day, and then it did not work on BS5 anymore.
Removing account and adding it again fixed it. Very strange behaviour.
I do not understand their communication ....I reported the spotify problem @beocare already several times and every time I receive the answer that their developers will investigate the problem.Never received an answer that it will not be supported anymore ... (even last week..)I've sent emails to Spotify support also, but no real answer either ... (they will investigate ...)I do not understand the relationship between spotify and B&O... If you make an (expensive) product you need a bullet proof contract with the other party for several years I think.. ? at least 10 years ?The BS5/BM5 is maybe not the newest system by B&O but it still looks great (even it works with XP embedded it is stable now).My feeling is the BS5/BM5 has still better looks than the Moment.....( but that is maybe personal)Also we should not care what system it is running on, that's B&O's problem.... it should just work ..
Also I have problems to be pushed by vendors to use my smartphone/tablet as a "music system". This is not the same for me than a dedicated system. And if you need to change to the Moment or to a Essence .. how long will it be supported by the other vendors like Deezer, Spotify etc ... there is no standard for streaming ...This is changing the lifte time for a product drastically... We are now even in a more "throw it away world" than before. My BS9000 is still working perfectly, I have 2 beograms, they still work perfect, even they are more than 30 years old. Because they are based on standards. What could we do with a today's product in 20 years from now ... nothing i guess..... Ok technology is changing quickly, but after a certain period it should stabalize and vendors should agree on a standard. Look at the audio file format type.. we have .. mp3, flac, wav etc etc etc ... We' ve seen lots of audio file formats but still no consensus between vendors... Finally they seem to agree on a charging connector standard .;-) .. maybe something similar has to be done for streaming ... technically I beieive it should be possible. I'm a techie and i do not see any problem it should be possible to develop a standard for making a connector for streaming services. It could be like the 7 layer OSI model for networks ... a standard for streaming music :-)

This is unfortunately the way of the "cloud". Any streaming/cloud product now depends on an external service on which you have no control. Maybe enough people will get screwed over enough, and people will force laws to enforce a minimum service life, but I'm not holding my breath. Even with a 7 layer OSI standard, you'd still need "metadata" exchange frameworks (for finding songs, etc.), and in today's fast moving world "ain't nobody got time for that".
No problem here, still up and running
Today again work Spotify fine....until yesterday no new releases and top albums.
Mine is working, including new releases, playlist and favourite.
