Has anybody got the HiFi News test LP and if so how does your Beogram perform on the 300Hz trackability tests?

I have seen the LP for sale but haven't ordered one. I wonder how it compares to other test records. It costs around $50 USD here in the United States.

It seems to be quite comprehensive for testing your record player.
The problem I have got is when I play the tracks to test Bias settings. There are 4 tracks that play a continuous 300Hz tone at varying levels (starting at 14db and going up to 18db equal in the L+R channels) its designed to test how well your stylus tracks the grooves. I get audible distortion at all levels on my Beogram 5005 with Axel retipped mmc2. In the notes it says that if you get buzzing or distortion in either channel adjust your anti-skate settings til' the tone is clear, but obviously the 5005 is tangential and so has no anti-skate settings.
I've tried upping the tracking force (tested with a stylus force meter) from 1.2g to 1.4g and it is better but still not right. If I increase the stylus force to 1.7g it manages the 14db tone but that seems like far too much pressure... The mmc2 (line contact, sapphire cantilever) is fresh from Axel this week, I sent the last one back a couple of weeks ago due to a similar issue.

Interesting results. You should ask Frede at Classic Audio about the test. He does a lot of turntable testing.
You wouldn't happen to have an email address for him would you? I've tried google but can't find it.

I bought a couple of test vinyls via eBay which seem to work really well. One with test frequencies to test your hearing range and all of the other features the one Leslie mentioned, and another with 4 different instruments (organ, brass, percussion and strings) which really test trackability on difficult musical pieces/volumes and frequencies.
Just do a search on eBay for test LP or test vinyl.

No, sorry, it was just an example of what you can find.
I have a CD-4 4ch/2ch test record by Louis Dorren. But the other is a Shure TTR 101 test record called 'An Audio Obstacle Course'.

Absolutely as the BG6000 has the CD-4 decoder as standard.
From the sleeve, it does:

A code on the sleeve says 'SB4X 002'. It's from 1975 by Sutton-Miller Ltd.

Thanks Dave, still curious how quad sounds like on my completely overhauled BM6000 system. Got it back few weeks ago from Olly (Step1) and it looks fantastic what he did with this horrible machine.
Tomorrow business trip to Singapore and Indonesia and when I'm back I will start setting up my quad system. Can't wait....
Well I've been doing a lot of tinkering and had some correspondence with Frede at Classic Audio, and I've settled on a tracking force of 1.8g, which Frede assures me isn't too high.
I'm beginning to think the short and lightweight tone-arm on the 5005 is the real problem, its got no damping whatsoever. Hopefully going to get a 6006 or a 6002 at the weekend so I'll see how it performs on those.
