Paul W:A refund is the best way and stay well away from the H8. Is the H7 is more reliable option?
That is exactly what I did. Returned H8 for a refund.
Bought H7. Delighted, no dropouts, wonderful sound (that you can even finetune now via Beoplay app).
Update:
Just when I was about to fill in another RMA-claim - the message from B&O Return Service (Arvato System in Germany):
"We will send out a new product to you - BeoPlay H8 Black.
This will be shipped to you under reference: xxxxxxxx"
How surprizing is that?
Fingers crossed now - black H8 should all be with new hardware and "right-sided" S/N...
To be continued....
I'm being sent a replacement pair "from Denmark". I just hope it won't be a refurbished one on the wrong SN side. I will keep you guys posted. Thanks Mirzoni for detailing the process I might have to go through.
I have just been notified that a fault was found with my H8s and I am being sent a 'factory certified' replacement from Germany. The serial number is earlier than the cut off for the improved Bluetooth hardware so I will wait with interest to see if these are an improvement. One positive is that the 2 year warranty will start again from the delivery date.
A box has been delivered to my home by UPS. Have no idea if it's new or refurbished black H8 inside. I guess I'll know in a few hours.
Will keep you posted. To be continued... :)
Actually, what I am looking for for headphones (especially as I travel a lot) is:
- Active noise-cancellation (no background noise during flights);
- With wire (for maximum quality for my FLAC files, no BT and no drop-outs) - when sitting in a plane, the wire does not bother me; and especially
- over-ear type (on-ear models are usually tiring after a couple of hours, plus they get too warm for comfort).
In effect, what I would like is model H6 with ANC. Sadly (and surprisingly, at least for me), B&O doesn't make any headphones of this type. Maybe one day, and if so, I'll be on them instantly.
VANTAGE
Current: Beovision Eclipse 65" v1 - Beolab 50 - Beolab 28 - 2 x BS2 (GVA) - 1 x BS1 (GVA) - Beoremote Halo - H9i
Past:
Beovision MX4000 - Beovision 3-32 - Beovision 7-55
Beosound 9000 - Beosound 5 / Beomaster 5
Beolab 6000 - Beolab 8000 - Beolab 5 - Beolab 3 - Beolab 17
The replacements have arrived via UPS.
Positives: Arrived quickly - 8 days from me sending them off. They came with a complete set of extras - cables, pouch, aircraft adapter (I had kept mine being unsure of what might be returned). Fresh 2 year warranty starting today. On very quick testing in the office droputs are fewer (but can still be provoked) and no high pitched noise with ANC. I will go out for a walk with them later and get some idea over a longer time in more challenging conditions.
Negatives: Despite sending my pair in the orginal box (as suggested on the website), the new pair have come to me in a cheap cardbox box (as pictured above by Mirzoni). The headphones were sent with the original firmware (no battery indication on the ipod and no Beoplay recognition) - easy enough to rectify but I wonder why not already done. The headphones are in generally good condition but there are signs of wear at both hinges with a small scratch on one of them - not enough to justify a return but a shame.
@Mark:
Did you get a pair with OK S/N signaling it's upgraded hardware?
No - as I indicated a few posts earlier the S/N indicates this pair is earlier than the hardware update. A quick test in the office suggests that they are an improvement both in terms of BT droputs and high pitched noise with ANC. So it is possible the refurbishment has included replacing the original hardware with the revised version.
I will reserve judgement until I have had the chance to use them for longer and done so outdoors.
I will post an update when I have done so.
Can someone PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY a posh, super premium brand like BANG&OLUFSEN is sending SECOND HAND headphones to customers who have paid £400 for the privilege?
How can this be allowed? They are less than one year old. Trading like this is HIGHLY ILLEGAL in Europe. It needs stopping immediately. Is this how low BANG&OLUFSEN values its customers???
This needs to be addressed instantly.
I am in the US and I feel like I am getting a different treatment. I sent my H8 on 4/19, replacement was approved a few days after and I got a message from B&O this morning confirming that they will ship my "replacement order" on May 9 from Denmark - estimated delivery May 11. That's a little bit more than 3 weeks for the whole process while you guys have been reporting 8 days on average. I'll let you know what I get.
What a lousy treatment.
Not only B&O sold hundreds of headphones with an serial error they KNEW about - they now even send preowned replacement units.
This is shady.
UPDATE:
I received actually a brand-new-in-box Black H8. Finally. Great communication finally - from Kasper at B&O customer support and from Stefanie @ return support. I won't lie - it took me dozens of mails and it felt like I have been pushed around, but I guess I was persistent enough and the couldn't beat my arguments about the firmware upgrade per S/N. This, aaaaand I did make much noise in my emails. :/ They did send me a black one, looks great - see pics below.
Now the practical points: they do need burn in but I took them straight away out for shopping. Not-a-single-dropout! It's the H7 stream stability we are talking here. Well done B&O. They came with newer fw that shows battery capacity in iphone - but not the latest that enables sound EQ control from iOS app. So I did the update and the order in my universe has been restored.
Interesting fact that these have also been sent from Germany (Service partner Arvato distribution GmbH) and not from Denmark. They have been shipped by UPS that is - as another Swede mentioned here - extremely user unfriendly but they do the job.
That was my story with B&O RMA. As I said, you need to stay on your course and B&O will respect the BT-dropout issue by replacing your H8:
Having used my replacement pair they are much better from a BT point of view - much more stable and almostt no dropouts. The high pitched noise from the ANC has gone although a squeal can be provoked by touchng the centre of the speaker when the ANC is switched on.
I doubt that replacing faulty headphone with reconditioned is illegal but it has not made me feel that B&O have any great commitment to me as a customer. The fact that they might send a new pair if you show great persistence does't improve my perception.
Following on from my recent experience with the waranty repair of my Beovision 10 I have decided that I will not be spending any more money with B&O as there are other companies who show rather more commitment to customers and seem to be able to produce rather better quality items.
"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
leosgonewild:Just got an email from my dealer that there are two brand new H8's waiting for me with serial numbers well above the fixed versions. Going on a trip next week, so will get some real testing done. Hope these are up to the quality they should be
leosgonewild:She likes shiny stuff
leosgonewild:Changed my broken A2 for a A1 combo. So now I have some nice stereo portables on the balcony. Time for a beer
oh woot woot :-)
I thought the A1 sounded nicer than the A2. And i find it very easy to use the Beoplay app to change the "tone" as well
I also forgot has someone got their H8 to work with the BeoPlay app? I get a message that I have to download the latest firmware which I have and it's still not visible. Any hints? Thanks in advance
Let's hope this post works a second time...
I also forgot to add has anyone any tricks for using the H8 with the BeoPlay app?
It said that i have to download the latest version of the firmware which I have and still no luck.
Thanks in advance.

BeoNut since '75
leosgonewild:Too bad the tone feature isn't available when in stereo

Hi all,
It might be the end of my H8 nightmare. I received a brand new replacement pair yesterday (my 3rd pair of H8) from Denmark, 3 and a half weeks after I sent my H8 to the repair shop here in the US. Thankfully, they are one the good side serial-wise. I will report in a few days after I do some extensive testing.
leosgonewild:Well I am a happy fish now! On my flight from Helsinki to Oslo, and Oslo to Alta, I have not experienced a single drop out.
Hope this works for you Thibault, now with a good S/N. My replacement pair certainly does not drop BT connection anymore.
On the other hand I can't help noticing that the left channel is slightly stronger then the right one, which makes the sound coming from slighly left, like from 11 o'clock. Still hope these need more burn-in and that this will adjust by itself with time.. Strange really because I keep reading that H8 have been manually balanced - and here I am, the my pair of headphones that is stereo-wise off balance our of dosens I have owned...
Anyone else experienced off-balanced soundstage.
Now I have used my new H8 travelling a few times. No dropout so far
So no I think we can say Bluetooth is working as it should.
Will they make the NC better? Is it software or hardware problem? I don`t expect it to be as good as Bose, but the sound when I`m walking is driving me crazy. It is not possible to use NC when walking..
No more dropouts for me. I am also quite happy with NC. After 3 different pairs of H8s in 8 months, I believe it is finally the end of my H8 nightmare!
