Can you (or anybody) tell us if the Synology DLNA server is running as well as the twonky server with the moment ?
Is there some definitive advantages for using the twonky product instead of the Synology ?
Same question about Twonky vs J RIVER Dlna Server
Thanks
As far as I know, you will need the recommended version of Twonky, if your files are organized using iTunes.

w5bno123:Hi Seanie Pleased to hear it's all arrived and you've set it up. Just quickly there will be artist flow not covers on screen when the music is playing. It's a soft focus picture that floats slowly around the screen, this in the next software download and this is a preview of the search feature that's long awaited!

@ koning
I am really lucky for you. Thats why I wrote, this could be a solution for any NAS-Owner without a build in twonky-Server. We are talking about a cheap upgrade (about 35 EURO) instead of buying a new NAS. Even some B&O-Cable are more expensive. I am happy with my Synology, but since they decided to get rid of 3rd Party Implementions like Twonky, there aren´t many other options left.
a) use the BS-Moment with the Synology-DLNA-Media Server - trouble with Covers, laggy connection .. if you have a large collection of music
b) use the Twonky-Server on a Mac/PC - high Power consumption - Mac must be always on
c) buy a new NAS - in the worst case with a next update your Twonky-Support is gone -
I would rather spend my Money for a new B&O-eyecatcher than for a new NAS.
Cheers Beroli
Hiort: This is really good news Update still scheduled for week 25? Do you have more insights into coming improvements?
This is really good news
Update still scheduled for week 25?
Do you have more insights into coming improvements?
As far as I know it will be in week 25.
It will be possible to have/listen to different Deezer streams on different NL-products on the network - not just a 'party-function'.
@ Face!
the Synology DLNA-Server will work with the moment, but only, if you decide to share a small amount of Music (B&O writes in the BS-Moment guide, page 23 "The database can hold at least 10.000 tracks.".
If you have fare more than 10k tracks on your Synology-Server, the BS-Moment becomes more laggy, doesn´t show the right covers and skip some tracks. I had to switch of the entire cover-view.
But if you are using a Twonky-Server (Hard- or Software-MAc/PC-Solution) there are less issues. It seems that Twonky is serving the Moment much better than the build-in Synology-Server. Therefore you have to decide: How many Files you want to share.
I am a little bit frustrated. I was looking forward to a improved Search-Engine.
"The search feature is cloud only, No search on NAS - Really?" :-(.
Even if it´s on the roadmap i don´t believe B&O will implement a NAS search very soon. Searching TuneIn-Stations? I can add all the needed Stations on any other device, in a TuneIn-App, or in a browser. They will instantly appear on the BS-Moment. This is a one time task - Or is there anybody, who needs to add Stations on a daily basis?
Searching Deezer is great. But - what if, Deezer goes down in the same way like spotify or if something happens with Deezer like low streaming quality, transfer-issues, Maintenance, less content...
Therefore (in my opinion) the NAS-Search should have been a higher priority than a cloud search. Will there be 2 Search Engines on the Moment, after the update? A good one for Cloud-Sevices and a still lousy one for the local content?
Maybe I´m expecting to much. Every Salesman of B&O promised in the last months a improved overall-Search-Engine and B&O kicks them down with 25% Cloud-Milestone-Delivery.
Aaaaarrrrghhhhh
Now I understand why mij dealer told me to wait.
Beroli: ...... Aaaaarrrrghhhhh
......
I am very glad, that the Deezer search has gotten first priority.
What makes you think, that B&O won't 'implement a NAS-search very soon'?
Personally I have a lot of local files on my NAS, but I tent to only use them, when they aren't available on a streaming service.
Why think so negative about the streaming services, they aren't going to 'go down'!
To me they are the future of stereo music - why should I buy a CD or pay for a download, if I can have all that music for a fraction of the money, that I have spend earlier on CD's???
A direct search for TuneIN-stations makes sense - not everyone has or wants to use a mobile device.
Why should i buy a cd....because streaming service are limited in artists.
That is exactly, what I wrote above = ' I tent to only use them, when they aren't available on a streaming service.'
But really, how limited are they?
Let´s think about it. Why I think so negative? In short: bad experiences of the past years.
Since years B&O has far more issues with their Software. Usually they need months-years to fix them - and I am talking about Bugs not about features.
What makes you believe that B&O will deliver a new function?
On the other side, a search function is a basic function - it should be implemented in a proper way from the very first start and B&O failed us.
We all agree, at the moment it hurts to search any Title or any album. Even if you prefer Deezer, I doubt it, that you would not prefer they would finally deliver a complete search instead something half-baked.
I don´t think negative about streaming services. But if you follow up the recent events with spotify, the conditions for streaming-services are changing fast. You can recognize that the spotify-service degrades. Artists leave them including their content. B&O integrated Spotify in the new Avant, now in the BS-Moment Deezer is the preferred child. In some month we will need a 3rd-Service. Maybe! Thats why I want to stick with my music - bought over years. And sometimes I don´t like to have every Day the same Deezer-Menue served. If you choose Pop or R&B you have to listen to Sam Smith (great singer) till your ears start to bleed.
I didn´t say that a search for TuneIn-Stations is useless - But it was not a pressing matter. To open a account for Deezer or TuneIn you still have to use an other Device than the Moment. Last but not least - a internet service is never as stable as your own Network. Even if Deezer, TuneIn is offline, stutters or freezes you could still use your Music - But I dare you - Don´t use the search functions ;-)
Cheers Oliver

Beroli: B&O-Fan since more than 20 Years!
I can only conclude, that the BS Moment is not ´'your BeoSound' - and probably won't ever be.
Why worry then?
If you really want to battle - I have been a B&O-fan since more than 35 years
@Beroli => 100% agree with you about seach priority on a nas
A Local NAS Nas Solution would ever be the safest way to be sure to acces to your music.
Tunnel, deezer or spotify solution will probably desappear one day like rental video shops has desappear from you street or your city not so long ago.
I was under the impression that the Artist search (that also include artists in my NAS as well as Deezer artists in my playlists) would be improved in the coming upgrade, so that you can type e.g. "DI" and get Diana Krall, Dionne Warrick etcetera as result.
Will that not be a part of the upgrade?
ooooh MM, really
But I have bought the BS Moment !! I still like the idea of the BS Moment - as long I can still choose which part of the moodwheel I want to use. The BS Moment is designed and advertised as a Server-Cloud-Player and not as a Stand-alone-Cloud-Player. If I insist on B&O promised-functions (and B&O announced since months a complete new overall-search engine) - what is wrong with that? Is the vision now "Hand over the money and shut up"? Are some critical thoughts in this forum forbidden?
Therefore I don´t like your attitude "I can only conclude, that the BS Moment is not ´'your BeoSound' - and probably won't ever be. Why worry then?"
I know you are a big fan. But at least - allow some others a different opinion on this matter. I am trying to help the community in this forum to overcome some flaws in B&O-products. You did this for years. Why the change of heart? Have I offended you in any ways? Is this not the reason of this forum - helping each other? If you red my latest posts - I am a believer.
I don´t want to battle you for something like years - but I´m willing to battle B&O to improve on their promises.
The flaws on this system are horrific. We are talking a £1800 thing here not a £59 Tesco tablet. It should be perfect. To put it another way, the Pioneer CDJ2000 Nexus is £1500. It's a media player on a Pro level. We fit them in every radio station. Every DJ and club through the world uses them. They are flawless. They have to be. The usability is perfection. It's sound quality is breath taking and it's £1500. It's more basic version is £900.
So why is this tablet £1800? I think a few people are getting taken for fools here! I see the Emperors New Clothes with this half baked tablet thing!
I think MM is a salesman.

First thing first.
You did not offend me - it takes more to offend me than that
I don't know what you have expected from the Moment.
I don't know the difference between a 'Server-Cloud-Player' and a 'Stand-alone-Cloud-Player', and I have never read these terms, as the BS Moment was presented.
It was advertised as a player, that takes the trouble of fidling with choosing what you want to hear away from you, giving you an easy access to what you like, whenever you want to listen to music.
The Pattern Play is - together with the 'MoodWheel' choice - the main feature of this device. A very clever algorith is used to learn, what you prefer to listen to, even depending on when you want to listen to music.
This 'one-touch-access' to music is the centerpiece of the Moment. This way of interacting with music began with the BS Essence and was explained at that time as, 'what B&O can offer' for people, who otherweise would be lost trying to find, what they like to listen to in a world of Infinite posibilities. As I sometimes say: they want to nurse us!
It had already begun years ago with the MOTS function on the BS/BM5. MOTS was the center piece of the BS5 and the search function was a secondary function - and a pita to handle there.
This has not changed - even with the coming improved search function, the PatternPlay/MoodWheel-way of interacting with music stays the main feature of the device.
I seemed to me, that your needs and wishes is a device, where the search function has first priority. Therefore I felt allowed to write, that the Moment will not be the device, that you need (and probably will disappoint you in the long run).
I have a feeling that you have expected more - or something different - from the upcoming update. Why you expected that, I don't know?
It is certainly a good thing, that the search function gets improved. And I am sure, that it sooner or later will include searching in the local content - because B&O promised that. Since my focus (as well as that of B&O) is on music from a streaming service, I can wait for it, you can't - so it seems.
The Moment will never become a device with searching as the primary function, searching as the main feature.
The device is mainly a 'music-butler', which (by the way) is the reason for me not to buy one.
It is up to you to decide, whether that is ok for you or not.
I don't see B&O not delievering, what they have promised with the BS Moment.
koning: I think MM is a salesman.
A true salesman would never tell people, what they should not buy and why not - he would try to sell them something else, when he recognizes, that they are not really interested in his first offer.

It is a weird comparison - I don't understand either, what Paul W intends to say, other than, that he dislikes the BS Moment.
@ MM
this is really a selective view of you. We discussing the upcoming update and just one disappointment about the lousy implemented Search-Function is enough for you, to tell someone that this Device is not for him. Maybe you misread me completely or you don´t want to understand - on purpose.
Indeed - the BS Moment offers a lot. There is no need for a history lesson about MOTS. I don´t complain about MOTS, the great "music-butler"-function, Design, Connectivity...
Let´s put the rose-colored glasses aside and talk about promises and facts. Maybe you should have a look on the youtube-Video ("The concept behind BeoSound Moment)" from B&O. B&O UX concept designer Lyle Clarke explain the concept and thoughts that went into designing BeoSound Moment. This is a vision and a promise from B&O for any future or current customer. Please - watch it!
Yes - I made the 'Server-Cloud-Player' and a 'Stand-alone-Cloud-Player' up as you did it with the "Music-Butler". But we know, what the other meant.
As you can see on the Video, our "music-butler" (man - I really like this phrase) can serve us from 3 different Sources - from your stockpile of music on your NAS/Server/Mac..., from the cloud (Deezer, TuneIn) and finally he can serve us a mixture of both. Therefore you can find on the "Mood-Wheel" 3 Zones. If you are telling me that the Server-Function is not a main part of the BeoSound Moment, then you can stop reading.
BTW: A good Butler knows what you want. But to do his job right, you will need to teach him in which mood you are right now. Since there is no listening device in the BS Moment you will need a proper search-function to express your needs. And if you know that your special need is only in your local Source, you will have to point him in the right direction. Therefore I totally disagree with you, that the search-function is not a basic, fundamental function. This is the only way to "tell" the "chief manservant of music" in which mood you are, so "he" can learn your "pattern" for the future and to serve us better.
Currently we don´t have a proper search. Trying to explain what we want to hear, is like playing Charade. But instead of starting with the first word - we start with "One!" Capital. That´s all! Nothing more or less! Afterwards I have to go trough the whole stockpile - by Artist, by Album, by Title - and point on the desired. If this procedure is so tiresome, as it is right now, you will stop to "explain". In the End your "Butler" will serve you in the future something mediocre, but not anything in your mood. The pattern-play will become a farce.
I agree with you, when our "music-Butler" (for the last time ;-)) knows our pattern, we should not bother anymore, from which source/stock he delivers - the main search function will "step-down" to a secondary function. But - until this revolutionary B&O-Vision - pattern-play - will work properly, it needs time and above all it needs the right tools - like a modern search function across all sources - to reach the goal, when the concept behind BeoSound Moment will be true.

this will be fixed in the next software update.

Out of curiosity, how's the rebuild of the Pentas going for your "dance" room?

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
Seanie_230:Hi all when I press pattern play button my moment fires up the radio only. Why is this? Is this because deezer does not have enough history yet ???
It will take a while (and quite frequent use) until Pattern Play have learned your specific pattern.
Everybody looks so thrilled about the search function as a main concern in the new update. I'm crossing my fingers more for that expected multiroom thing, to function on the ML. I am getting so tired in using the Moment only in my living room for now. If the Moment can't flawlessly become a part of my existing 'ML chain' it will be totally worthless for me.
"Believe nothing you read and only half of what you see, let your ears tell you the truth."
I agree Chris. Can't wait for the multiroom function. I also don't understand why people are having so much trouble combining the Moment with Synology. I have a 214+ and it runs perfect without Twonky or other interface gadgets. The only thing that is not 100% right are album covers on the Moment and in the Beo Music App but I cannot imagine that this is caused by the Synology. Does anyone have a 100% score on artist portraits and album covers, both on the Moment and in the Beo Music App? If so, interested to learn more about your set-up.
