I was thinking of writing a few lines after having Beosound Moment in my home for about a month now.

I will not focus on the flaws in the software that we have been writing about in various threads, since they will most likely be fixed over time.

I would rather give a view of how Beosound Moment has worked in my everyday life, hoping that it would benefit other readers of this forum if they consider Beosound Moment.

Here we go:

First some background.

Moment replaced my Masterlink Audiomaster (Beocenter 2). Since I did not have any other Masterlink Audio/video master, I had nothing to provide current to the Masterlink. I had to overcome that problem by adding a second life Beolink Converter Type No 1611. B&O will release a "black box" solving the same problem within short.

Why did I get Moment in the first place?

Main reason was that I had all my CDs ripped and imported into iTunes, so I did not need a CD player anymore and the way to play those CDs was cumbersome. (Activate A.AUX. Get iDevice. Start Apple Remote. Connect to Airplay (Playmaker). Play. Use phone to skip track and remote to e.g. adjust volume). Same thing with playing from music service. I also had problems with dropouts.

So how is Moment used in everyday life?

Well, in the mornings, while eating breakfast before work, I just press "PatternPlay" (push the round area on the wodden side) and it knows what radiochannel I always listen to at that time in the day.

While commuting to and from work I listen to the Deezer app and let it provide me with my favorites and some music in the same style by using the "Flow" function. That way I have discovered a lot of (to me) new music that I have added as "Loved tracks"

When at home again in the evening, I can easily pick those tracks again, by getting into my Loved Tracks playlist, using the Jukebox.

When preparing dinner together with my wife, after work on Fridays, we usually listen to some more relaxed music that goes nicely with a dry martini or a glass of read wine.

I usually flip over to the "displayside" of the jukebox and just press the middle circle in the green area of the Mood Wheel, and Moment serves us the music we would expect.

If not, I press the remote and easily skip to next track.

I think Moment need more frequent use, to understand that I want to listen to that "green mood" music, every friday evening around 6 PM :)

If I want a specific album or track, I use the BeoPlayer app.

On weekends, if I am at home I'm more into the red area of the Mood Wheel. That gives more upbeat music that goes well with cleaning the house, playing with the dog, or whatever we do.

All in all, the Moment has given me a more casual way of listening to music. Sound quality is as good as I would expect. Tunein radio and Deezer sounds very good as well. There are areas for improvement with regards to features and functions, and I'm sure B&O will fix those in coming updates.

/C

Does it work fine from the bl3500 and bl2000? Kan you change track and playlist with your BEO4?

@ Hiort

Thank you for your report. Yes - thumbs up

I will be afraid to scratch this portable wood jukebox.

A rubber black or white version will be more affordable either.

For me € 1.700 will be a correct price for a BeoSound Moment. Big Smile

We have to wait for a Moment Mk II without software problems and a screen in higher definition. Yes - thumbs up

If you could use the Beomusic App on the Moments pad, that would be a vast improvement. There's no way I'm spending £1,700 on a music system with a pad thingy, that then requires me to use my own psd thingy with the better software to operate it because it's own pad thingy can't. It's bonkers.

Have I got that wrong?

Well, I don't need that iPad app for changing music, I do it perfectly from the Moment. But I enjoy the iPad app in the kitchen, it gives me such a nice big cover picture of whats actually playing.

Chris, give your wife the surrounds and meanwhile take the Moment home, all in one trip Big Smile

If it were her way, the bedroom would be an 11-55 with matching 12-3's and a 19 for good measure. I'd be happy with a Beolit and a pretty maid.

No Masterlink integration yet. Will come in May.

I can change tracks but not playlists with beo4.

Yes.

Today i have connected it thru a delay box (not operative yet) and to a ML/NL converter.

In the ML/NL converter you can either set it up as A-master or Av-master. I set it up as AV- master and then everything works just fine!

The only thing that is not working (as for now) is the volume controll on the Jukebox on the Moment, and when you switch from example radio to TV, it doesn't shut down.

in A master setup, everything works, except when you starts music, radio in a linkroom the master in the room where the Moment is connected starts playing. These things will get a fix in the updated software in May.

And if you have NL and ML product you can just use one of them, and not both as for now.

I am using the Moment just as my BS5/BM5 setup i had earlier Big Smile

Thanks.

When you say that you have connected Moment to the NL/ML, does that mean that you have connected Line out on Moment to Line in on the NL/ML converter?

I guess the difference is, that Normann has set his Moment to use the NL/ML Converter, and you have set it to use the BV!

Am I right?

It can't work in both situations by now - the update(s) in May will change that.

Hallo,

the Netlink seems to based on TCP/IP connection. You have to use a normal network switch for the connection. One cable for the Moment and one for the NL/ML gateway. I was in the same situation first I wondered if this can be true. But it seems to be netlink over TCP/IP.

I doubt there will be a MkII, since the software will be updated continuously.

Regarding screen resolution, do you think it actually looks bad or is it that you think its a bad specification? Just curious.

Of course, a MK II version will be available if Bang & Olufsen don't stop to produce the BS Moment.

Look the BS Essence will have a MK II version after 14 months only !

The tablet screen is not well integrated. Angular and square corners would have been more harmonious.

The screen don't have a Retina Display (HD).

Colors are not enough bright for my eyes.

The glass is not anti-reflective and not treated against fingerprints.

The BS Essence is not NL.

The 2nd Generation of it is NL - that is the reason for the 'new version'.

This does not apply to the BS Moment.

The resolution of the screen although not up to the latest iPad standards, wouldn't really bother me. The fact that I can use my iPad Air all day and not notice a finger smudge, which I couldn't say the same for the Moments tablet.

Then there's the huge elephant in the room, the Moment doesn't support the excellent Beomusic App, but my iPad does. What madness.

But what's the point of turning it on, if I can't then search for genres/decades/artists etc on Deezer?

It's simple enough, the Moment tablet should run a combination of the BeoApp and the Moment software - it should be fully featured and complete. The App should be some subset of this  - it shouldn't be offering features not found on your £1700 device (supposedly designed from the ground up for this purpose)!!

As Chris says, this is madness and needs addressing pronto!

Today I’m having the Moment also a month. A short thought.

It is exactly what I was searching for to replace my Mac Mini iTunes with Amarra and Audirvana combo.

I now trowed that awfully iTunes completely out of the house. From the beginning, it was always been the syncing that drives me a little crazy. I think of the stuff on iTunes media as my stuff. I’d like to control it. Last year in Cupertino, there’s was a guy with an untucked shirt muttering, “But I thought people liked U2… No, dropping a U2 “gift album” into my iTunes account was over the top with me.

There are off course things that can be bettered as is the search function, a two letter search would be good enough for me with my large library. But viewed in the whole the Moment gives me now that perfect control of my music library and adds simplicity of operation for the whole family. Just waiting for that multiroom and I can say, well done B&O!
