Hi
I understand that the display panel in the V1 was changed at some point last year.
Did this update reflect in a new TYPE NO, if so what is the new TYPE NO or has it remained the same. If the latter, how would I distinguish between an original V1 with an older style panel and the newer V1 with the updated panel?
Regards,
downtime
Hi,
If you are referring to the 40", there are three panel versions so far and the only way to distinguish the mk1 panels are via the serial numbers:
Mk1:
Up to 23132004 (first panel)
23132004->
Mk2:
Type no 9505-9506
Roger
And there will no further panel updates for the V1 - B&O are unable to find new high quality panels and the model will be terminated shortly.
Will there be a new beoplay TV to replace the V1 (the long talked about V100)?
The V100 is the code name for Beovision Avant
Beovision Harmony 77" 2nd Gen, Beolab 5, Beolab 17, Beosound 1, Beoplay M3, Beoplay Portal, Beoplay Earset, Beoliving Intelligence
So.......waiting for the V10
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Anyone has anything of something new?I was just about to buy a V1 + NL/ML Converter. I'm definitely gonna wait a few months now.
I don't expect any BeoPlay tv coming - nor do I expect, that they are going to use V10 as a name for a new BV.

If you are in for a 40" tv, and you need a 'relatively inexpensive' NL-enabled tv, why wait?
Thanks Roger, it was the V1-40 I was referring to.
Given the fact that it looks like the V1-40 is soon to be discontinued, that raises another issue - do I buy one (new) or wait and see if a replacement is announced.
However as you say they are "unable to find new high quality panels" (at this price point presumably), it does not look good for a similarly priced replacement.

Because the relatively inexpensive NL-enabled TV could be replaced with another relatively inexpensive NL-enabled TV with more features, a new design or something :)I find it interesting that B&O allegedly can't source panels for the V1-40. My experience tells me, even though i'm no expert or ph.d. that technology, like flat screen panels, gets better and better. Maybe the old technology, used in the V1-40 could be replaced with some new, let say, curved 4K screens at the same cost.I love the Avant but it is just too big for me. I love the V1, in black but if its on its way out.. I would be intrigued to wait and see what happens in a few months. I get it, you can always wait for the next big thing - if somebody can consolidate the rumours in this thread that V1 is to be discontinued in near future then i think it would be a good idea to wait a bit.
Why can they not find some new panels when Panasonic, LG and Samsung are producing pure excellence? These LCD panels are of a top notch standard these days :)
Maybe the V1 was not a good seller? It's a shame as B&O had included all of the right ingredients into it including the electronic curtains. The price was very high though in todays market I guess. Price wise, it maybe should have been at the same level as its Loewe competitor. The Play brand seems to be expanding which is great so maybe, just maybe...
Of course it just speculating - but personally I would not keep a tv in the Play range. The B&OPlay range is for another kind of device.
I guess, they are discontinuing the V1, because it will be replaced by something else in the B&O range.
I don't expect it to be as 'relatively inexpensive' as the V1 - but certainly not as 'relatively expensive' as the Avant.
I can't really believe, that the reason should be, that they can't get the panels, that they want. This would mean, that we won't have any 40" BV in the future portfolio
I guess, that they are strugling to make a new tv, that is 'more than' the V1, but much cheaper to produce.
My gut tells me, that we won't have to wait long to see, what it will be like .
Good thinking Mr MM! I was thinking today that maybe there isn't a market for the V1 in that price sector because of conventional 4K tv AND the fact that it's maybe a totally totally different kind of person that spends say 5.5K upwards on a BV11 or Avant.
I guess that I did the point of a TV in the PLAY range because of the fact that a lot of PLAY customers are iTunes fans and love the Apple TV box and of course the V1 was indeed the first to offer the Apple TV storage space etc. So of course B&O hoped that the iTunes generation would buy into the V1. I thought the white one was very nice - certainly, it sounded brilliant and seemed very nicely made. I don't believe that it disappointed anyone :) But gosh, I remember the olden days, when a B&O design would be produced for a good 10 years :( I hope that they do launch a new one - one that looks like a BV11 :) :) :)
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there
Chris Townsend:I've been to numerous stores that haven't, and in one case wouldn't, sell a single one.
My local dealer was saying to me at the weekend how it's grown on him since launch and he gets quite a few emails from people looking for 32" V1 . Having been to their Avant launch and seen the high average customer age there I'm not surprised the footfall at the shop would not appreciate it !
Beo Century ,Beoplay V1, Beocenter 6, Ex-Beolit 12, Beotime , A8. Beolit 15 , Form 2i , Beolab 2000, Beoplay A3.Beosound 1
The V1's are very underestimated.
Some dealers could have done more to sell them.
In Denmark they are quite popular.
I love my V1-32", which is in my study/guest room... I would not give it away.
There are days, when I/we use it more than the bgger one in the livingroom.

....kind of :-)
Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2, BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century, BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i, BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40, BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)
My Gosh, Chris, It's terrifying how the price of electrical zooms down after only a few months!!! How the heck do they make them at that price. LG seems to have taken the market over from Samsung. Wherever I travel, no matter what country, there's LG TVs everywhere.
I wonder if the beautiful Norwegian airports still use BANG&OLUFSEN MX TVs as their flight customer monitors?
Yes Chris, you can buy a TV cheaper than the V1 , with different provenence...
Chris Townsend:Sorry....
Chris Townsend:I was only pointing out that there are quite a few 40 inch panels still for sale, and 32 inch for that matter.
having also earlier said ;
Mom always told me it was what was on the inside that counts.
But isn't "compromise" somewhat understood with B&O Play? (looks vs sound vs portability vs [add your own quality here]). I don't think anyone can expect B&O Play to tick all of the boxes, especially for those who are familiar similar non-Play products. However much anyone faults the V1 for lacking in some respects, I do think it has / had a place in B&O's gateway / entry range. The brains alone were worth the price of admission. Too bad the company seems to do a horrendous job of promoting effectively what it really does well to the masses.

I feel that having a shiny piano black or aluminium tv with added speakers is a design compromise so one with great sound that blends into domestic decor ticks all the boxes in our family. I know it's got the internal stuff from the bigger TVs if I change my mind about going multi speaker too!
Chris Townsend:Sound=very good Picture=for what is ie a 40 inch screen, very good Beosystem 4=Awesome Looks=IKEA Some may like the looks of it, and I'm happy for them if they do, but to me it's almost tountamont to industrial sabotage to make a B&O product so ghastly. When it was wheeled out to dealers there were audibly open gasps of horror. If the V1 were a girl, she'd be able to sing like an angel, paint like Picasso, but looks like this.....

Chris , thanks for making aesthetic judgements for me . However in my professional capacity as a product Designer I ask you leave it to me to decide if it's good or not !
I totally disagree with you.
In my opinion, life is far too short for ANY compromises. If you compromise on something, you'll never truly love that thing from heart and soul. Compromise means not doing something 100%. Compromise is something that known should have to do. :)
V1 is an interesting design - it reminds me from the side of those goalposts in a field. It's a bit like a VW Golf - it does everything right but you just wouldn't...
It doesn't have a warm passion to me like the BV11 / BV10 always has had. It's just not the most elegant, well read girl at the party ;) ;) ;) The BV11 is that European Lady with the little black Chanel dress and a hint of expensive perfume! The one with the nice smile :)

Now we're getting into a philosophical discussion. My wife loves her Prius. I'm indifferent. What the Prius does at 100% my MINI doesn't really care about. What my MINI does really well, the Prius doesn't; these gives and takes go on and on. (Let's not get derailed on the car metaphor). Isn't compromise in the eye of the beholder? BeoWorlders may see the B&O Play range as having some things compromised, but people not familiar with B&O will likely never own a tv as beautiful and well equipped as a V1.
PaulW, you're right, life is too short for compromises, but look at who you're speaking with ... People on this site are irrational perfectionists, some of whom can never be pleased (I'm being facetious, for those who think I'm serious).
As an aside, I remember when B&O released the BV8, which was supposed to be their "entry level" television. Now THAT television had compromises. I owned one, and I can credit my experience with that television and the service I received for it to be the reason I left the brand.
If the BV8 was actually the V1, I don't think I'd have left the brand at all.
I really like the V1, and I think it definitely has a place in the B&O Range - This is a worthy gateway drug to B&O televisions.

BeoMegaMan: Chris Townsend: When it was wheeled out to dealers there were audibly open gasps of horror. Incorrect. That gasp was from the limited edition Havana brown V1-32 that was literally on a wheel cart.

Don't you mean this item from the BV7 inspiration board?
Hey Sal, the MINI is having a HYBRID engine soon, so your wife can have one AND ME TOO! I'm not getting on with my Audi, I miss the fun factor & go kart feel of the MINI so i'm waiting for the Hybrid as i'm a total eco warrior in every sense and it's really important to me on a huge scale :) :) :)
Always good words from you Sal :) A pleasure to read!

My neighbour has a Tesla S and he says its a great drive including the regen braking. However hybrid does sound like a good idea as he didn't realise he'd be stretching a cable across the pavement some Sundays when he hasn't been able to charge it in the week at work! A bit humiliating with a sticker price like the typeS
