What if the rumors about the price aren't faulty, according to some these new beasts will be 4x the price of the 20s.

Nearly correct on price, and a limited edition run to boot. To start with anyway.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Why we write not about B & O economic downturn.
Who says B & O survive to later in the year ?

Is this just an attempt posiktiv publicity ?

Maybe they should be though of as B&O's Veyron, a technical tour de force demonstrating the state of the art and what is technically feasible in speaker design and production!

Ban boring signatures!

As it is all just rumor now, hard to know what the price will be, assuming there even is a new speaker. Rumors by their nature can be far from the truth. If the new speakers do appear, and if they are 4 times the price of 20s, I would not be able to purchase a pair. But I would not want to purchase 20s only to have something much better come out and be priced not too much more than 20s.

This sounds like the Bugatti Veyron of speakers, to create press coverage and extreme image as well as some big speakers. Top Trumps time!

If these speakers are positioned in the audiophile reference class the 40.000€ are ok. It's the same price as a pair of Linn 350A.

But it is to be feared, that in press they never get a 100% Rating, even if they would be worth.....

I asked a dealer about this rumor a few weeks ago. Response was that dealer had heard nothing about new speakers. I was also told he had even contacted B and O and asked about these rumored speakers. I was told no new speakers this year.

It's more for the publicity that it will create...

Clothes designer don't make money on the Haute Couture dress they sell at astronomical prices, they make money on the millions of bottle of perfume they sell to people that want to buy a bit of this designer's image.

Apples and Oranges really. We already have a Tour de Force that outplays everything else on the market at it's price, the Beolab 5's. B&O's marketing department can mess up selling air on Mars to stranded astronauts.

I welcome the Beolab X, however I just hope the developing costs (must be massive) won't make the hole in the hull of the M/S B&O even bigger.

Too long to list....

Yes

As if the rumor is true, given the number of people here who claim to have knowledge of the speakers it would appear that there is no big secret about them.

The new flagship speaker is now shown to some dealers - in its final design. They appear larger than the BL5, but not as tall as, say, the BL18. It also looks like they have a very large number of speakers, covering 360 deg and maybe leaving ALT all together. They do look like something that is hard to describe with words, very different to the current BL5. The final price and release date are still not known (to met), but the guesstimates given are in the same ballpark: late this fall and 40-50k $/€/£.

Hallo Roger,

Good informations from you as always,

Your 360 statement, does that mean a lot of new spearkers are on the way?

Replacement for Beolab 3?

Does the 360 look good in your opinion?

Is WISA, PHONE, OPTICAL standart in alle new speaker?

Is the new high-end model with sound calibration?

What material is it made in?

Thank you for the information. The 360 feature seems a bit odd thinking what b&o thought about acoustics before. Maybee the new dsp is more powerful so they can compensate for this and get advantage insted. Or maybe the purpose of this speakers arent best possible sound in front of them. We have to wait and see.

Hopefully B&O make them simple to connect to other brands, the days of struggling with various cables belongs in the dark ages (sorry Steve@SoundsHeavenly)

Agreed.

And I do hate to bring up Apple but they really took off once they ditched proprietary power pc for Intel and integration with windows. Proprietary connections are just an unnecessary barrier to entry.

I guess with proprietary, you mean the PowerLink connection?

The PL connection was made to have the advantage of a line level signal and the volumen controlling as well as turning on/off.

You don't find that in any conventional audio connection.

Please do remember that volumen controlling (by an active speaker) is best done directly in the speaker/the built-in amp.

How would you do that without a 'proprietary connection'?

The BL 5 had a seperate built-in volumen control (with a proprietary remote - the Beo4).

Maybe the new 'big one' could be controlled in that way too, if used with non B&O pre-amp gear (and supposedly a digital connection).

Which connection would you propose for a 'universal' way of hooking the speaker up?

Yes I do mean PL. I did forget about the on and off lol. So I am happy to have those but with other industry connections for normal equipment.

Interesting. With many drivers, DSP, and individual ICE amps, it should be possible to make a speaker with whatever directivity and power response you want, and even to tailor it to a particular room with room measurements similar to the bass alignment the BL5 uses. Of course then your wife will rearrange the furniture and you'll have to do it all over again.

Perfect for a listening room, where the wife has no saying.

I prefer a speaker, that I/we can live with and listen to almost from everywhere.....regardless of the wife's need for rearranging the furniture.

Lucky man!

There's a joke about a guy who finally got married. He's down in the basement packing his hunting gear up and his wife walks in and says:

"Darling, I think you should give up hunting and fishing, sell all your guns and boat and just spend time around the house."

He gets this horrified look on his face and his wife asks "Honey, what's wrong?"

He says, "For a minute there you sounded like my ex-wife."

She says "Ex wife!!! I didn't know you were married before!"

He says "I wasn't."

360 degree was what I meant when I wrote intelligent speaker! It is really difficult to describe. In Germany this demostration happend around 4 weeks ago. However, nobody has seen the final shape of the speakers yet. B&O presentate just a model of the speakers ;)

I'm really curious about 7400W!!!

For me, the volume would be controlled by the non-B & O preamp (like I have for the BL 3, which I use as rears).  The BL3 also turns on when it senses an input signal.  To me, this is the ideal case.

The BL 7-4 (used as center) is similar except it has to have a trigger line to turn it on.

I have to turn on the BL5 with the remote.  It's not the worst thing to have to do, but having the system described above seems unnecessarily complicated.

I don't know why B & O couldn't make all of the BL speakers like the BL 3 with regard to turning on and off with an input signal with the volume controlled by the preamp.
