Each or a pair?

B&O pricelists always show the price of ONE Beolab.

If you want to listen stereo you'll have to pay 148.000 EUR. Devil

Not in Sweden. The price given are for two speakers, unless it is a solo speaker.

With "price given" I dont talk about BL90. I mean in general.

The new speaker is tricky to describe, both visually and the performance. I do hope that B&O will offer a tour, making it possible for all dealers to do a full nights demo in their neck of the woods.

If you think of the BL5 as a Porsche 911, then the new BL would be a Porsche 918. It is as different as it can be, and still the same. In the sweet spot mode, they will just blow you away with a sound reproduction that must be unique and (quite frankly) unbelivable.

The price will most likely be 34.995€ (=€70k for a pair). They will make 50 pairs (initial plan?). Could be launched on Oct 6th...

The speaker: Now you are warned - it is huge!

The launch: Some speak of Oct 6th (that is what I heard too) - others speak of mid-november (at the actual date of the 90th birthsday).

They probably even haven't decided yet.

Only very few dealers will have it on display - even in Denmark.

Yes. I was hoping for a speaker better than the BL5 and mid way around the £20-25k mark but these are far beyond my finances and will be out of reach. Other options include PsI or Genelec studio monitors which are a bargain in comparison and with soft room EQ it might do the trick but these are boring traditional boxes and lack the B&O beauty and integration. Sigh.... [:\'(]

The named speakers may be good, but as long as I haven't heard the BL90 in action, I'd rather say nothing.

Personally I will never be able to buy such expensive speakers - and I don't have a room, that is 'fit for these', anyway.

What should be interesting to me (and probably to most of us) is, if (and how) the technology used in the BL90's and the knowhow, that the guys in the 'acoustic depths' in Struer have gained making it, will somehow be available in future speakers.

I imagine, that this is the first one of a new generation BeoLab.

BeoVision 4-103 + BeoLab 90

Corporate ego taken to the extreme?

Didnt the BeoVision 4-103 launch coincide with a massive decline in the companies fortunes.

BeoLab 90 maybe magnificent but let's hope it's not the last significant product launch......

I have experienced the PsI and Genelec's - of course I can say so. These speakers will in no way match any of the Beolabs or the new Beolab in aesthetics but I am saying from experience that the PsIs and Genelec's were brilliant sounding and better than the BL5 in terms of outright sound but that's to my ears and taste. Others will disagree. I don't just buy for sound however - I love the whole package that Bang Olufsen brings but I found the BL5 fell short to my ears in several aspects but I still regard them as a special product.

I want to move beyond BL5 acoustically but can't stretch to the BL90. I haven't heard the BL90 so perhaps I shouldn't say they'd be right for me. Hopefully they won't because I can't afford them. Ha ha!

As someone has just said I think they might well bring a new technology and acoustic qualities that will trickle down in coming years so I'm hopeful and perhaps should hold on a bit longer before spending the money on something non-B&O.

Yes. I remember the first time I heard them I was deeply impressed by the crispness and control of the top end and the same control and precision in the bass. It was a special feeling walking around the room and hearing that clearly no matter where you stood. An unforgettable experience.

Totally agree and your critique is brilliant as sound is so difficult to describe.

The bl5s had a great sonic spatial awareness.

Plus I always had a funny almost touchy feely sensation when listening to them?

The BeoLab 5 was launch in September 2003,

so 12 years ago now !

I think it is time to replace by a new model.

Bang & Olufsen decided differently.

Utter rubbish! Why replace what is still an outstanding speaker because it is 12 years old? It still out performs most of what is out there and still sells. I look forward to 12 years time to see if the French speaker version of the Dyson is still selling.

Compare what is comparable.

I do not think the BeoPlay A9 will be manufactured for 12 years also. Whistle

BeoLab 9 have been improved for BeoLab 20.

Why not improve the BeoLab 5 ?

Definitevely, there is a lot of conservative people in this forum. Confused

Outstanding or not everything comes to an end or is updated eventually.

Also the sales numbers will have a big say in how long they remain in the range.

The BeoLab 5 is still an outstanding speaker and there are no plans to discontinue the model.

I sold a pair yesterday to a new customer that thought they represented great value against the opposition...
