Hi,

I am looking into getting a BS3 paired with a current 65" or 75" 4K samsung LED.  Should I look for the latest (MK 3) version of the BS3 or will an earlier MK 2 or 1 do?  How do I identify a MK 3 (based on serial number?)  I don't care about 3D capability and realize the BS3 (or BS4 for that matter) do 4K processing

Thank you

Any benefit of looking for a MK2 or MK3 or will the MK1 do fine to drive a new Samsung LED TV?  What are the main differences between the MKs?

Mk1 - first version, Mk2 has Freeview as standard, Mk3 is 3D.

Not sure about any processing capability improvement (aside from 3D on the Mk3).  The Mk1 can be software upgraded right up to the last/latest version, so I'd probably go for a Mk1 and have it done.

Was there a physical hardware update?  I think the MK3 has HDMI outputs whereas the MK1 has DVI outputs (not sure about the MK2) which may be relevant as most TVs don't have DVI inputs anymore (although I guess you could use a DVI to HDMI adapter)

Is Freeview an EU or Uk specific feature?  I am loacted in the US

No, they all had multiple HDMI outputs right from Mk1 up to Mk3.

I'm not actually sure about the Freeview thing!  I doubt a European spec. Freeview module would work in the US as the frequencies are very different...

PS - also remember the voltage differences!

My bad... I read outputs as inputs... I was on my iphone and in the passenger seat of a car at the time. *slaps forehead* Lee

Pretty certain early MKI was only 720p. Especially, if it was connected to an early BV9. The sticker that shows the serial # will also have the type # right next to it. The serial and type are the only true identifiers for what MK version it is.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

They were all 1080p. It was the Mk2 BeoSystem 2 which was 720p... Lee

"Freeview" is British for DVB-T. It's not going to be of any use to you in the States.
