Hello,
Look at what arrived at my home yesterday!
It was very dirty, didn't look too good at all.
A Beocord 1500, not de Luxe, two track. It has the rewind belt, like Søren's BC 2000. The VU-meters are silver, not black, which seems to be less common. Perhaps it is one of the first?
The service manual is not on Beoworld.
Also, it has two white heads, one is the erase head. What is the other one then?
I like to make things clean before doing anything else, so here's the result after 3 hours. The black base, not seen here, will have to be sanded and painted, as I did with my Beocord 2400 last year.
The head-cover logo is missing. The glue is staying

BeoNut since '75
This is an old project. This was given to me three years ago, but I had completely forgotten about it. The owner's daughter asked me only two weeks ago if I still wanted it! So I arranged for collection
The mysterious head - found it in the manual!
A schoolmate had one of these back in those days.
We used to take it with us - to class - to play back, what we had recorded from the radio:
Brian Poole and the Tremeloes, The Kinks, the early Beatles and all that stuff.
Those were the days (a Mary Hopkins song, by the way).
Have fun with your new toy

'Those were the days my friend' - indeed. We thought they'd never end! But then along came Apple and the digital revolution rather than the vinyl revolution.
Another nice piece to restore Jacques.
Dave.
In between came the age of the compact cassettes
'Compact, baby compact......'

Don't you love those too?

What about yours, Dave?

You mean the Equals/Eddie Grant, who had a hit with the 'Baby, Come Back'-song
Well probably not....
The CC cost me so much time then - recording, recording every album you could get your hands on. It became an obsession!
Never managed to listen to it all.
Millemissen: Never managed to listen to it all.
I know. I still have the tapes.
Very nice. And actually a rare deck! The Deluxe model was by far the most common. It has the black VU meters. The non-Deluxe model has silver VU meters and despite the glue remains on your head cover, I am almost sure ithas no logo there. I will have to check it to be absolutely sure, though.Martin
Found it.No logo.

Nice one Chartz
chartz:What about yours, Dave?
I have a BC1600 and BC2000. I haven't got a BC1500.
A nice find for your collection Jacques.
Dillen: Found it. No logo.

Thanks for the information Martin
Hello Dave and Eddie!
Dave, I know you don't have a 1500, but have you made your open reel Beocords work yet?

With travelling back and fro to the UK almost weekly to sort out my father's problems, I haven't time to do anything! Apart from buying more stuff that is. Our house and land is time consuming as you've seen, especially at this time of year.
My next foray will be a drive up to see Martin (Dillen) to collect some MS150 speakers and take the Beocord U84 for him to restore. I'll also see what other goodies he may be persuaded to part with!

Oh, you bought those! Well done! Do you have a working Beomaster 8000?
A trip to Martin's... Wow! Please take plenty of pictures when you are there!
Sorry about your dad.
Base black again.
The missing paint on each side is due to years of putting the lid back on carelessly. I'll have to correct that.

Yes, I couldn't resist a pair of MS150's. Especially compared to the €800 plus ones I've seen on sale recently! It gives me a chance to finally visit Martin and his collection/repair shop. As for a BM8000. I have one in superb cosmetic state but have only partially tried it out so far. It does work, but how much, I don't know yet. It will need some work - they all do!
Dillen: Found it.No logo.

Was it added then?
On the Beocord 1500 Deluxe the logo is printed on the head cover.I shalln't say, that the glued on logo is definitely wrong, there were lots of production changesgoing on elsewhere all the time but I never before saw one that was glued on like this. What I HAVE seen though is plenty of Beogram 1000 B&O logos glued onto almost anything B&O (and also non-B&O).The remains of the blob of glue on your head cover doesn't seem to sit centered, does it ?Søren Mexico has a Beocord 2000 with what seems to be a home-colored logo :http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/12089.aspx (a bit down)And this Beocord 2000 bears a similar logo but, being a Dynaco version, I believe it shouldn't have it at all.http://www.google.dk/imgres?imgurl=http://museumofmagneticsoundrecording.org/images/R2R/BangOlufsenDynacoBeocord2000.jpg&imgrefurl=http://museumofmagneticsoundrecording.org/RecordersBangAndOlufsen.html&h=552&w=736&tbnid=GvC3j3ksfb-o7M:&zoom=1&docid=vy1KqPGMOb48tM&ei=bx49VdLyOMGwsQHNoIHgBw&tbm=isch&ved=0CCUQMygIMAgMartin
Perhaps it was a fashion back then!
Were the logos available separately anyway?
Okay, so I just need the black caps over the slack absorbers.
The glue has slightly melted the paint underneath unfortunately. Same glue as used to secure the felt pads and the joints under the silver plate.
Great find Jacques! Love rare things like this. Martin kindly provided me with a spare slack absorber cover for my BC1100. It is now complete!
i have recently done some work cosmetically to my Beocord 1800 including the wood surround and spraying the black base as well. Interesting to see how this thread develops!
Ben
Today, I am going to fire it up after a few static checks.I don't want the VU-meters to burn - or anything else for that matter!
First things first, the rectifier diodes. Then, reservoir caps, etc.
The fuse holder had a green oxide all over it. It cleaned away fine, and I replaced the fuse with a new 630 mA one.
The beast has been opened...
The mechanics share a lot (everything?) with Søren's Beocord 2000.
The rewind section has a belt that rubs against the motor pulley. This is a funny arrangement, but it works just fine. The belt is fine, after all these years.
Which was not the case for the two counter belts. The one you see here is the new one. The other one was just broken. It is very difficult to photograph where it is.
The regulated PSU. No silicon here!
Routine cleaning odd contacts with ISP...
Now time for a switch-on!
Well, it turns out everything is fine! What is more, it is much more silent that my Beocord 2400. All functions work as they should, at least mechanically.
More later, lunchtime!

Just a quick test - no sound
Let's have a look at the diagram. Oh no, yet another funny DIN cable is required. Worse, two separate cables are needed to record and replay. The LINE socket is for replay only.
Why on earth did they do that?
I'll have to fabricate another cable for this unit, which I hate.
You didn't really think it was going to be that easy did you Jacques?
Dave Farr: You didn't really think it was going to be that easy did you Jacques? Dave.
Of course not. It never is. But I will have to go to the shop in Besançon to buy the DINs.
Ahem... No excuse!
chartz:Ahem... No excuse!

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
Søren Mexico: chartz:Ahem... No excuse! PIB
Mmm... Solder on, Jacques.
As you can see, it records, but the CD player overloads the radio input badly. I'll have to attenuate it a lot. As a result, the recording is bad of course. Replay of an existing tape is fine though.
Temporary conclusion for today, it is alive, not kicking yet!
Tomorrow I'll try to record radio from the Beomaster 1000! If the test is satisfactory, I'll tackle the electronics (new caps mainly).
Connected to BM1000. No go.
What is so special in this type 0961014 adapter both brochures mention?
chartz: Connected to BM1000. No go. What is so special in this type 0961014 adapter both brochures mention?
It makes it work!
Sorry Jacques. That cable is mentioned in most Beocenter manuals as the one needed for the TP. I have no idea what's special about it. Have you not got a spare from another RtoR player you have?
Maybe Steve at Sounds Heavenly will know?
I suspect you need one of these: http://soundsheavenly.com/input/13--5pd-5pd-.html
Best of luck,
I tried the TP1 cable I've got. Those have inverted connections, and I've got one that works with my BC2400 RTR on my Beolab 5000. Not compatible here. A plain, straight DIN cable doesn't work either. I still need two cables.
Small test!
Yet another one.
Today's little adventure.
I did a lot of switching-on/off today, until the fuse decided to melt after a rather ominous very short hum from the transformer. What now?
It turned out that one of the Mullard BYZ13 germanium rectifiers had just given up the ghost
I decided to replace both diodes with modern silicon BYW17. No other harm done.
Back to business. Phew!
A problem of this machine is that all the head and tape guide adjustments don't use springs, but rubber cushions. Trouble is, the rubber has become hard, and this makes any alignment virtually impossible (I wanted to adjust back-to-front tilt). It is clear why tilt is slightly off: rubber height has reduced.
A definite flaw.
