Finally the update that's had much discussion has arrived.

The notes state this provides HDMI 2 and HDCP 2.2 (for HDMI port 1).

It also mentions numerous performance and bug fixes.  How can we find out what these are?

I'm more interested in the bug fixes, as I've had a couple of small issues which are slightly annoying but only happen every now and then.  Such as one (or more) of my speakers occasionally cut out and needs restarting, this I know is an Avant issue, as I swapped the speakers over.  Deezer occasionally has some issues where it becomes unresponsive.  All I'm convinced are software issues.  There are a few others but not worth mentioning as very infrequent.

Surely there are detailed patch notes somewhere?

Cheers!

Also for, as to be expected for, the BV11, V1, BSys4.

Rumour: One can also expect a major sw update for the Moment today.

Thanks for the post David. I'll try.

The only issue I have had is when I was on net radio and changed sources and the speakers closed. It only happened once.

I really hope they have made it possible to allow the current speaker group to continue over to the next source when you switch back and forth.

We have 2 BV11 both with several Labs connected to them. Independent of the source/format ALL speakers are always on.

Is this a Avant issue?

did you try what happens if you switch of the Energy saving for the speakers?

I don't understand what you mean. I have different speaker rolls in different speaker groups.
I have energy savings turned on so that speakers that aren't used is turned off. This results in clicking every time I change speaker group/role - which happens if I change source after I have switched sound groups.

If I wouldn't use energy saving then of course they would stay on but not be used, which is not optimal either :D

I do not understand this issue either. I tried to understand earlier in the topics you started on this. I have no problems at all with BV11. When you have different speaker groups with different sources it seems logical that they switch when you change source. When I change speaker groups, I hear a click when speakers are switched on and off, but how often would that be. When I switch from ATV to TV tuner for example, which happens often, nothing clicks. But when I change to just audio, example Spotify, my center speaker switches off. But that happens because I configured it this way. I guess I am missing something but what?

Anyway, I am looking forward to the update. Curious to what has been changed. Regards.

For the sake of clarity, my ispeaker ssue isn't related to energy saving.  They're wireless and as such this feature doesn't work anyway.

My issue is that every 5 days or so (but some times a little longer) one of the speakers stop playing sound.  70% of the time this is the front left speaker, the rest of the time it's the left surround.  Now I know it's not the speakers, as I've swapped the right surround with the front left, and still the front left stopped.  I've also tried other swaps.

Heres the thing, when it stops playing sound, it hasn't lost connection with the TV.  As turning the TV off makes the speaker light go red, then green when turning on again, but still no sound.

Changing sources doesn't solve it, nor does re-scanning for the speakers.  It behaves like its dropped connection with the TV but it clearly hasn't.  The only way to make it play sound again is to unplug the speaker, leave it a few seconds then plug in again.  Alternatively press the reset button, but that's more of a faff as its under the grill.

I'm convinced it's a TV issue and I highly suspect it's software related.

I've eliminated all other possibilities by a series of environmental changes between each time it's stopped.  New power bars, removing other devices, such as Apple AirPort Extreme (about two foot away from it), game consoles etc, and like I said I've swapped the speakers over a few times.

At the time when the speaker stops, sometimes (but not everytime) the BL19 sub shows a slow blinking orange light, which according to instructions means low signal.

Appart the fact that I temporarily lost the control of my set top box, can't see any difference on my BV 11.

So - who will be the first to connect a UHD-box, that can benefit from this new HDMI 2 and HDCP 2.2 feature?

Any advices which one to use?

Or maybe just wait for the new bluray players coming at the end of the year!

My V1-40 updated last night automatically - I don't get any notes about HDMI 2.0 etc, just the spiel abut performance improvements and minor bug fixes etc.  Still, nice to know that even though it's chassis is obviously less fully featured than the more expensive models higher up the range, that it can still be kept up to date.  Kudos..

Cheers

I think a 4K bluray player will be the first. If 4K becomes mainstream (what I still doubt) other 4K devices will follow (settop boxes, cameras, Apple TV and other streaming boxes). But what will you do then with Avant with only 1 HDMI 4K input?

The 2H of this year is all 4K.

In June we should see a 4K Apple TV.

For the UK, hopefully we'll get a 4K Sky box.

And 4K Blu-Rays will be there as well.

4K will be so common, your supermarket will be having them in the sale by Christmas.  From a hardware perspective 1080P is finished in the mainstream market. Now, lets hope the content providers move at the same speed.

All Ports are now UHD.  Its only HDMI 1 that supports HDCP2.2.

Sadly this is all very very wishful thinking. Common?

Sky can barely cope with HD, never mind 4K. Many HD channels have been downgraded and their bitstream quality reduced. Sky themselves don't know when they expect a 4K box/channel, if at all. Certainly it's not this year.

A 4K Apple TV is unlikely in the UK this year. Users just do not have the bandwidth to stream 4K and most providers don't have the resources to provide 4K. Again, the Apple TV struggles to cope with fluid delivery of HD for many users, never mind 4K.

After selling my Avant for a BV12-65 I've never looked back. HD has never looked better and most people comment on the quality of the picture.

But I guess the most external 4K devices will need support of HDCP2.2.

I think that's why B&O recommends in Avant manual to use HDMI 1 input for connection of 4K sources.

That's for sure. With HD panel you get a better PQ than with 4K panel when watching HD broadcast, because a 4K TV has to upscale the picture.

I experienced that the profile keys on BeoRemote One are nor working correctly after updating the software on BV11.

When starting directly from standby using a profile key, the tv isn't showing the correct source. Instead a source menu is shown on the TV.

I experience the behavior only when starting directly from standby by a profile key. Switching between the different profiles once the tv is on works fine.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to help saving the profile settings again. The behaviour is still the same after doing so.

Does anyone experience the same problems on BV 11 or on the Avant?

Most bluray players nowadays also have some kind of 'smart functions' built-in - Netflix, Youtube app etc...

I suppose, that this will be the same with the coming UHD/Bluray players.

In that case one HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 will be enough for most people for now!

By the time we will need settop boxes (for UHD-tv viewing - which might take a while) and other devices with the need for HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 support, we will see at least one new B&O tv. Don't expect the Avant (in it's current form) to last very long.

Very soon we will have tv's (and also BV's, I am sure) with support for HDR/High Dynamic Range, a wider color gamma (specifications are not yet agreed), higher frame rates....

And we will see a new generation of boxes to connect, which calls for HDMI 2.0a or even more (or other interfaces like DisplayPort or SuperMHL), - nothing that the current Avant platform can provide.

Thing are moving real fast from the hardware point of view. The specifications of the UHD/Bluray already support some of these new things.

But - as Moxxey writes above - we will have to wait rather long for content (even if we are just talking 4K/higher resolution content), that may equal the possibilities of the hardware/the tv's of today (and tomorrow).

It will take long for these things to become 'common' from a software (broadcast/streaming) point of view.

For those, who are not chasing the latest/newest technical features, that the industry will make possible, the BV Avant even with 'just' one HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 input port will be perfect for quite a while.

Personally - not having invested in the Avant yet - I prefer to wait for what will come 😉

Sure - but it is still not 'common' and you will need a powerfull internet connection for it.

Would have been nice (for UK and US costumers) with a Amazon Prime app built-in to the Avant, but after all it now is possible to connect an external box for that.

More pixels (4K) is a step up - but the best (HDR/WCG/higher framerates...) is yet to come.

How many of the movies from Amazon Prime are just upscaled HD-versions?

Its still not possible to disable the (now necessary) selection of speaker group per source (meaning the TV overrides my current preferred sound group as soon as I change between sources). And my speakers still turn themselves on and off quickly when I turn the tv on.

Feeling a bit sad that this isn't going away..Sad

The UI however seems much more responsive but the PUC feature for Apple TV still lags quite a lot. If I use an apple remote everything reacts at once. With the PUC and beoremote I get about one second delay (also re-downloaded the PUC).

I can't say if picture quality is improves but the sound feels more punchy after the update but it might just have been what I watched.

Make sure your IR is slightly off centre. If it's right on top it lags.
