Apple plans for a complete television set are apparently put on ice:
http://appleinsider.com/articles/15/05/18/apple-reportedly-iced-plans-to-build-television-set-looks-to-debut-new-apple-tv-at-wwdc
Instead, they will concentrate their efforts on the Apple TV box.
A good thing for B&O perhaps?
Good reading,

Michael:All is rumors and we can't know for sure about anything when it comes to apple. My own bet is that 4K is messing with their strategy and that they wait until the market has stabilized before making a move. Think about it. Retina is key for Apple in marketing. 4K or 8K would be retina. But their TV solutions today are 1080p. Anyhow, rumors is always rumors.

I like the BeoRemote One RELAX Avatar :)
Yes, you could be right.
I remember Phil Schiller making a big deal several Keynotes ago about how they had a different aspect ration support compared to 1080 and the upcoming 4K and/or UHD. At the time I thought "hmm interesting ... what seeds is he planting !"
Then last year we saw their 5K Retina iMac, and we have yet to see that as a pure monitor ... like their old Cinemas.
And over night they announced improvements and small price cuts to the 5K Retina ...

Nice, thanks :D.Yep, there is no 5K screen on sale except for the 27 inch iMac with retina display today (and it can't be used as an external monitor like the ordinary 27 inch iMacs). I think this is because of the DisplayPort protocol and what future Apple will go after. However, there are other 4/5K enabled monitors that do work with some macs, Apple even supports retina resolutions on them (so not everything will be super tiny but look great as on the MacBook Pro Retina. The price cut was nice to read about, but our european prices are still higher after their increases over the year because of the dollar price.

All very interesting! Maybe Elephant, the new ATV box will come in silver, gold or space grey options!
Probably very good news for B&O TV wise, but then again, we really do not know what their plans/direction are now for TVs.
Gotta say, that new MacBook Retina 12" is the cutest chicest piece of tech that i've ever seen. Love everything about it :)
I don't care much for the colour of an ATV - it is hidden away anyway!
The new MacBook Retina 12" is the real (cute) thing
Saw it/tried it out some days ago in the Apple Store in Hamburg.
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Gotta agree with you MM it's beautifully engineered isn't it. A friend bought one last week in space grey and we did some HD 1080p editing on it using Final Cut Pro X and it's a speedy little thing. Certainly no issues with the Core M using either Final Cut Pro or Photoshop :) The size of it is simply perfect!
you can understand why, Apple would have to radically differentiate themselves somehow from the other players to demand a higher price tag
It makes more sense to focus on the user interface experience and to me this is the easier option, this should have started with regular Apple TV firmware updates rather than bug fixes and looking ways to support local catch-up tv and radio services + Netflix, Amazon etc...
we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.
Would you really consider an Apple tv against a B&O tv ???
Software wise of course BUT an Apple TV wouldn't and couldn't be like anything that we've ever seen from TV design as we know it. Plus it would be well under 2K-1.5K Euro so not in B&O's price. Sound no doubt would be provided by BEATS etc. Jonny Ive and his team are quite geniuses with design & aluminium so it would be striking but who knows, maybe they are focusing on electric cars & car batteries instead!
Well, I can't wait to see, when B&O comes up with a 'MoodWheel/PatternPlay-BV'
A tv never seen before
Millemissen:Would you really consider an Apple tv against a B&O tv ??? MM There is a tv - and there is a BV.
Why do you think, that the price for an Apple-tv will (or rather would) be 'better' than for a B&O-tv.
I know no (!) Apple product, that I would consider inexpensive.
Easy MM, B&O prices are 4-5 times higher whereas Apple tend to price 1.5 times higher than the mainstream. A MacBook Pro is £999 not say 4 or 5 times higher than an Anus or HP equivalent if there is one. An iPhone is the same price as say a Samsung Galaxy or HTC. Apple is clever with pricing, they know what will and what won't sell.
Also, while Apple is a premium brand - B&O is a luxury brand. So by definition more expensive (but that's all obvious).
In fact, which brand of AV/consumer electronics do you know being more expensive than B&O? That gives me reasonable confidence Apple TV would definitely be better priced.
Sadly that would never happen Mark BUT in a way it has by adding the Apple TV box to a BV - kind of perfect for many people I guess :)
Mark:I'd like to see a B&O tv with Apple operating system, best of both worlds .....
That would not be a B&O tv!
Funny how people react to my mentioning of prices....
....and don't really comment on my question:
'Would you - in the end - prefer an Apple tv to a BV'?
Well, maybe there is no need for an answer - because there will not be an Apple tv.
elephant:Exactly Paul And MM that's why carefully inserted the word "volume" It is no disrespect to B&O that even by sourcing from China for lower costs they still do not have the volume to negotiate tough deals and spread their R&D very thinly

Of course they would sell more - but it is still a question how many more, if the price is higher, than what people usually spend on a tv?
I am pretty sure, that Apple would not earn a lot selling an Apple tv.
It is the apps, the licences, selling content and more, that would make them stay in the (tv) business - if they should ever consider that again.
But they probably have realized, that this also can be done with a small box like the ATV/a new ATV.
Being honest MM, I think an Apple TV if it ever was released would be so different to a B&O TV that it would attract a totally different customer/demographic. You have be rich / or spend a lot of time watching TV to justify a B&O TV but an Apple TV would be affordable to many so again, a totally different customer. I'd buy one if they made it in a 40" but there's no way they'd do a 40 from the rumours that I read. Those Americans like big everything - cars, tvs, food, BIG TUMMYS! :)

Still wondering, what 'be so different' could mean?
A big iMac, that you can talk to and ask for starting this and that app

And to be connectively "crippled" so that you can only watch stuff vetted by Apple!
Ban boring signatures!
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

And they say body parts are priceless :-p lol
BeoBoy68:I am waiting for this !! LG present new OLED TV with a depth of 0.97mm. The wall screen (size 55 inch) is magnetic. Dreaming and hoping that B&O could use this screen for a new BeoVision Avant-Garde !

Obvisiously you don't care much for sound

There IS a 5k screen on sale. For example from DELL:http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=up275k3And it's nice to hear (if true?) that the megalomaniac company Apple will not introduce a TV.

I didn't realise Dell were still around??? We had them years ago at the BBC. They weren't very nice. They didn't deliver a pleasant, special experience like say using an Apple product does. Bland kind of.
Magnetic screen sounds greats. Just add a BeoLab 7.4 or whatever for sound :)
BeoBoy68: Millemissen: Obvisiously you don't care much for sound MM MM you are a provocative person and painful. I think, I care much about sound than you. Did have the BeoVision 4 integrated speakers ? Not at all, I have allready BeoLabs Some BeoFans need more than a simple poor center speakers like yours V1.

What is the point of having a magnetic wall screen, if you don't intend to move it around?
Would you then move your BeoLabs around as well?
Not all that is possible, is also 'good'.
The screens/displays, that we have now, are already pretty flat.
I prefer having a tv with a design, that also include a descent speaker system.
And I don't intend to re-arrange my viewing and listening area that often.
These flat displays will find their place everywhere, where a 'display-only situation' is needed (and that is prettty awsome).
But there is no necessity for them in dedicated tv (especially not in a BV) scenario.
P.S. B&O has purposely left the former seperation of screen and speaker(s) - the costumers want a BV with included great sound.
Millemissen:P.S. B&O has purposely left the former seperation of screen and speaker(s) - the costumers want a BV with included great sound.
@elephant
I was not talking 'design preference' - which indeed might be part of the reason.
I was talking about people wanting a complete unit - not having to set up/connecting two devices.
Another important part is, that you (as with the Avant) can 'design'/tune the sound for exactly that screen/size of the screen.
In case of a wall mounted Avant - just think of the fact, that the audio engine know how the woofer on the back has to perform, when it is right or left angled, and turned from the wall.
I am pretty sure, that it - from a pricing point - would be cheaper to make an external speaker, than to make a speaker (system), that is conceived for that particular tv.

@BeoBoy68
You mau call me 'a provocative person and painful'.
All I can say is.....that we disagree!
