In my view the motorised hinge or stand accounts for a lot of the value in a B&O TV. A motorised soundbar (or, for that matter, a centre speaker) would also enable the upgrading of screens/ panels at low cost. But, I would agree that it still would not appeal to the average TV buyer, still being too high in cost however it was done. The average buyer might spend £200 or £300 extra on a cinema system, but no more.
Having said all that, there are very few motorised hinges/stands/ brackets on the market, and the few that are are very expensive and terrible looking contraptions with no real design appeal.

Millemissen:The adjustments of the sound aquires a menu/an interface. How would you have that on a speaker?A row of tiny leds?Red led numbers behind speaker cloth? An led which is din or bright based volume? And what should PUC and IR funcionality do on a speaker

Millemissen:@Lano Do you really expect that people, who buy budget tv's ('the Beo's are too expensive'), would invest in a B&O Play-bar with these functionalities (which cost) and a BeoRemote One??? MM
Millemissen: Agree on the first part. On the second - no! When you say, that 'we need a proper center....', you assume that we also would have a B&O-tv without built-in speakers. But we don't - and it does not seem to be, what B&O want at the moment. The BV's have speaers and are ready to use...without fussing with external gear. MM

I fear that you are correct in your observation that B&O is now building the center channel into the panels. However, I feel that building the center channel into the panel compromises the most important speaker of all: the center channel. The center channel gives us the dialog and needs to be on par with the other speakers in a surround setup. As tv panels get thinner and thinner, this greatly reduces the quality of a built-in speaker. The center channel loudspeaker needs adequate size to do its job properly. I remember the great difference when I replaced my BeoLab 4000s with the BeoLab 10. I felt that I finally had a speaker to match the BeoLab 8000s and BeoLab 1s. If B&O wants to continue being known for its quality of loudspeakers and for a nice cinema effect, it cannot neglect the center channel. Also, when using a projector for Cinema mode, we need flexibility with the placement of the center channel speaker.
@beojeff (and elephant)
I am sure B&O could make a speaker/center speaker - like you describe.
However, would they want to do that? And do we really need a seperate speaker for that?
Maybe speakers design/construction/tuning has moved on!!!

And maybe the majority of the buyers are pleased with the flexible speakers concept, that is already built-in, when they get the tv home. Those who want more, can easily expand and use the built-in speakers as a genuine center.
You may be right, when you mention the 'Cinema center speaker issue'.
Nothing (new) there from B&O, but after all - at the moment - there are certain things, that can't get a high priority at B&O.
There is a tv - and there is a BV
BeoGreg:I can't see why launching a Beoplay sound bar aimed at the millions of LG and Samsung tv's owners would be a bad idea. Make it simple, nice and fairly priced and I'll buy one for my father in law (philips lcd). As far as I know, the A2 or Beolit 15 doesn't have settings and remote and they sell well.

A soundbar boost the thin sound of a flat-tv, makes it louder.
If that is what people expect from 'good sound', you may be right.
Why not then?!
And maybe they think so in Struer (for a B&O Play product) - give the people, what they want!
I don't know.
Personally - I 'd prefer the real thing: a speaker, that is designed for and together with the audioengine of a tv.
