BeoLink Converter NL/ML configuration settings

As revealed on the "Essence Mk 2 (et al) unpacked" thread I have acquired both an Essence Mk 2 and a BCL NL/ML.

I have even installed the recommended (subnet) switch.

And I have the Essence and the BLC working.

However I am having to fudge the system to get the Essence's music across into my ML world.

And I am going around the twist trying to get the right BCL settings.

So I would appreciate some advice

Even with no IR you still have to tell the nl/ml convertor what ir to look for.

Apparently that's how part of the internal workings.

I have the right software level but I have chosen a role of AV Master at the minute (not moment )

I can't remember if you have a V1, but at one stage a V1 did appear in my pull downs however at the minute only choice I have as Secondary is the converter itself.

I shall try copying your configuration and seeing what a difference it makes to the usage behaviours.

The manual had said otherwise and so I had set them all as EMPTY.

I have Chris' example to lean on now.

(Forgot to ask him if he has an IR Eye)

What I wanted at the moment is to map MUSIC rather than all the others (TuneIn Spotify deezer) as I have not set up any subscriptions and there are few spare Beo4 buttons left

I do have a spare IR Eye from a BeoLink Wireless 1 -- do you know if it's circuits / wiring / voltages are identical with the BCL ?

The power recycle tip helped me test various configurations.

"Source Centre" did seem right, and I think I tried it -- may have been when LINE IN became an option.

And certainly N.RADIO is a "spare" code/key and I tried disabling it in BMLink/LinkPlayer, but it using it on the Beo4 never seemed to trigger anything on the Essence.

So this time I am selecting "Source Centre" and leaving everything as it is .... And the defaults have possibly been scrambled by all my tests. Do you know how to do a factory reset ?

I can start DTV and then "join" (+ on the BeoMusic link landscape view) the Moment to the morning news:

N-Music is "problematic" (i.e. an unusual use case) in that I have iTunes broadcasting AirPlay to Essence (and other destinations i.e. the Apple TVs) so this is what I see whilst the BV8 is playing N.Music via its BeoPort/ML connection:

But to get N.Music tracks started I find the Beo4 no longer does the trick of starting the iTunes play (>) button ... I have to use the virtual console to operate the Mac with the mouse and click play!

And I can't seem to trigger any Essence across into the ML world ... I think I need to setup Line-In ... No, actual I need to go to work so I can de-stress

Do you need to use the Beoport? Cant you use the Essence instead and Twonky server with the ITunes music? I have not used my Beoport after I got my Moment and the Twonky solution works really good in my case. I have also disconected my BC2 from the ML and only use it via Scart as DVD player to my BV10-46 and DVD freeder to my ML link rooms, in that way I can now use all old music sources like CD, Radio, AMEM as sources controlled from the BLC that is setup as A-Master. It is several years ago that I played CDs and used the analouge Radio so I dont miss these old sources and has now connected the Radio button to Deezer and CD button to Music instead and it works really good in the ML system.

I must admit there were times over the weekend I was muttering "I could have had two Essences for the same price".

My wife continues to want the option of playing her CDs and we may return to the day that the shelves under the BS4 and E2 are populated with our collection of classical music. In fact only yesterday she was berating me for buying the BS4 instead of a BS3000/3200.

I am also fond of the SD-card although it is really used as a fancy playlist of favourites. However I do have two BeoSound 2s and a fist full of SD-cards (we won't mention the cassettes and LPs ).

I did however install a Twonky last night just to see if that was a way to go; and I also tried our PLEX with its DLNA support. For some reason I am only seeing a small number of the ripped CDs -- more investigations required !

Similarly I have problem with iPad mini's local content being accessed by BeoMusic -- I suspect however that this is because the are unpurchased Apple Music downloads -- more investigations required.

So for now I need the BeoPort if only for activating digital music across the ML (and supporting BMLink and LinkPlayer for BeoWorlders ).

However I expect with 12 to 18 months I will be all NL ......

I have now got some strange problems that accured on my multiroom system. After the final update i can't longer get multiroom to work. It show's up in the Beomusic app, but nothing happens when i push on V1. It doesn't show "link" button on my Moment. But i can use the join button on my remote.. A man from BO was here today for many hours, with support from a man in BO, but couldn't figure it out.

Everything is connected thru an BLC and i have a BV10..

This is a joke, no it is't.

There are some serious problems (bugs) with the latest update for the Moment, especially with multiroom use.

This is happening to me:

- no response from track up-down buttons on my beo4 remote anymore, when I use Moment and a ML product only. When I use an ML product and a NL product together in multiroom it suddenly works again.

- After playing 27 tracks in multiroom music stops playing, ML product goes to standby, NL product stays on and Moment also.

I'm waiting now for a week to get response from Beocare, because my dealer looks at me 'Why you again'.

Ahhhh you just made me realise something

When selecting source from V1 nothing happens.

When I select a source from the source list I can play music from the moment to the v1.

I have also noticed your remote issue. From the v1 forward and back track ship has stopped working.

There are 9 days gone after unpacking the converter and it's still not working perfect? Seems to be like buying a puzzle with 10.000 pieces. The fundamental concept of this product is simply driving you mad!

Well I may have achieved a semi-working bi-directional system ... time to go to bed! And see if it still works in the morning ... and work out how to get iOS to play more than one track ...

Hush Räuber - his testing and experiences might become helpfull to you sometime in the future.

The 5 cables below in the picture reveal / hide a lot of sins but I do believe I have BLC configuration working. So mjmedlo was right on the money with "Source Centre" but it required BLC factory resets and an ML reset and the disabling of LinkPlayer to it all working. I'll post the configuration later.

Living room:

- BV11 plus speakers

- BS3000

- BS Moment

Bedroom:

- BV10

I also would like to add speakers to the BLC for the office in the near future.

I'm in particular struggling with selecting the right ML mode for the BLC.

A not so-nice side effect is that whenever I select a source of the Moment in a link room, the BV11 in the living room turns on, too, because the moment shares speakers with the BV11. Not using shared speakers isn't really an option because I would have to switch on the TV manually if I start playing music on the Moment. This probably is not applicable to your setup but maybe others have a hint here.

I´m quite sure that the Beomusic app will not "talk" to any of equipment on the "ML-side" of the BLC.

You can only use Beomusic app to e.g. switch off the ML connected units (by clicking the X in the tile for BLC), and that will be all units on the ML side.

I have Beolab 3500 and Beolab 2000 on ML side, and thats the only thing I can do with them using the Beomusic app.
