Hi everybody!

Do you know whether the Avant is already compliant with the new specs of the UHD bluray? (Hdr, colour gamut, frequency...)

It is not - the Avant is a 4K-tv.

The tv's that supports the mentioned specs are just about to be released.

However, you can connect a UHD-BRP and enjoy the higher (4K) resolution.

I am sure that the UHD-BluRay titles will look amazing on the Avant.

Do you mean that B&O is releasing new tvs which are compliant?

I have no idea!

But why not - in some way or another ;-)

Ommiting HDR would be the big stopper for me.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

No. HDR require a new panel.

I see. Do you think that an updated hdr version of the Avant makes sense?

I doubt, that it will be an updated/upgraded Avant.

Probably a new tv of some kind.

We will have to wait to see, what comes from Struer.

In my opinion HDR is more important than more pixels/4K.

In some ways HDR is important but nice to have HDR with 4k.

HDR is big picture improver in contrast/depth of what's on the screen!

Wouldn't it make more sense to update the avant to a mk2 with HDR, just like the BV7-55 got 3D in mk2. Would be weird to have a 4K tv without HDR next year or two no?

If they did. I'd buy if it was up graded to HDR and Hevec!

That's what has put me off buying.i almost got the Avant at a good price but when I read no HDR ect it was a no buy.

I perfectly agree. Should I go for a uhd B&O TV, it should at least meet the uhd bluray standards...

Has kept me up too!

But we can only speculate, if there will be an upgrade to the Avant or not.

Personally my 'gut feeling' is, that we are going to see something different - maybe quite different.

They are talking quite openly about having to cooperate with other manufacturers with regards to coming tv's. - whatever that would mean.

Bv7Mk3 - may I ask how did you get a good price??

Every time I go to B&O all I get is the rrp, they wouldn't even throw in a free cable! I practically was going to buy one of the first few Avant 85 in Sydney and guess what the guy couldn't even spend much time on me let alone any discount

Yah I gave it a past for now, bought a Samsung (not my favorite at all) as an interim. Slowly trying to warm my wife for a second big tv (hopefully B&O lol)

No doubt a Mk2 of Avant with HDR and also 4K tuner is needed to justify the price of this tv. But BV 11 is also outdated, nobody would buy a tv without 4K nowadays for more than 1000 EUR.

@ BillC I used to work in this line of work and still have friends.

As for the Avant I'd like one but not this one! Has to be 4k and HDR ect.

I think a Bv 11 4k would be great tv and it would be a hard choice an Avant or Bv 11 which one to buy.

I sold my 7/55 so now wating for b & o to update the range. I was told 1 year ago that the Bv 11 would get a 4k update....but still waiting for it lol.

With the v 1 gone and only one 4k tv in the range B&O have to get there finger out.

Hopefully things are on the way!

I would!

But I would not buy a 4K-tv without HDR, HFR and WCG..... today.

Totally agree about OLED. After seeing the LG Curved next to top of the line curved Samsung LCD, there really is no comparison. Everything on OLED looked incredibly smooth and realistic.

@Paul. Totally agree with you. Panasonic apparently is coming out with UHD OLED with HDR and wide color gamut. If they can get supply from LG that might mean B&O could too Stick out tongue

Problem is 77inch UHD OLED isn't available in Australia so B&O might be limited to 65inch in the net future

Do you think that Netflix 4K quality is up to B&O owners expectations? I think that a new bv 11-55 with a hdr oled uhd panel should include an uhd bluray player. Smile

Some of the pictures I've seen with HDR on compared to not, hurt my eyes! Some are too bright and make me screw my eyes up. Granted, they are just photos and not video on a full HDR screen but I think some people won't be comfortable with it. Some pictures have too much detail which doesn't look natural.

At the IBC show in Amsterdam a week ago, HDR was a big thing and a lot of vendors where showing what it looked like.

To me it looked fantastic on a 85inch 4K UHD HDR screen Stick out tongue

Wonder what B&O could do to improve that further.

I watched Marco Polo on Netflix 4K and it does look gorgeous. It doesn't yet have HDR though.

I'm actually surprised it didn't buffer - Internet speed in Sydney isn't what you'd call world standard and definitely not where I am.

Amazon prime apparently is coming out with shows with HDR and wider colour gamut some time this year

Hi Michael

I played it via the built in app of my Samsung UA78js9500w

Yes it's not B&O!! I needed a big tv now and B&O could not confirm if they will sell a TV that will support UHD Bluray.

Trying to warm my wife up to another big tv (hopefully B&O) - Samsung for my daughter and B&O for me Stick out tongue

I have a LG OLED and I have to say the LG has better contrast and black levels. Would have preferred to stick to OLED but LG didn't fully support HDR, wide colour gamut or had OLED in 70+inch size

Does the internal app in your TV provide HEVC codec? Was under the impression that an external box was required.

I believe so. Netflix uses HEVC and the manual shows HEVC as a supported video codec.

Samsung has many series, this is their highest non boutique/niche version; it has the upgrade CPU connector box. Interestingly enough they showed a 21:9 version (S9W) designed by Yves Behar that has never been sold which I have to say looks visually stunning ( the unit itself)

Actually I have just discovered that Vodafone is going to offer its connection and Netflix together in a bundle in Italy starting from October. It seems that the only requirement for a 4K streaming is a 25 Mbit connection. It is not clear to me whether this is really the same quality as a uhd bluray or not...

We use Netflix constantly. I have to say it's streaming technology is very impressive. Non of the offering from local provider can match its quality/compression ratio. It's content offering is much more limited than USA but it's technology is definitely world class - I'm very impressed. B&O should really try to include Netflix.

Hi BillC yes I believe that LG are also supplying SONY in the near future with OLED panels.

I like Netflix too. Being an environmentalist and activist, I particularly like its offerings of US documentaries that the BBC would be too frightened to show. Here in the UK, we are getting new documentaries on the same day as the USA do. I read that Netflix are fighting for all of its country's to be allowed films at the same time. Hope this one day will happen. Since I don't watch TV often, maybe two hours a week, I feel that it's a bargain at £5.99 a month.

Personally, If I had a B&O TV, I wouldn't use the apps, as i'm aware at what B&O are like with no education in software, so i'd always rely on a separate box that worked well!
