Hello All
thought i would create a project thread
Step 1: install steal MF5 ceiling joists on the wall
Step 2: put up insulated plaster board to safe energy and give a clean wall for the speakers, all cables installed behind the wall in a cut out of the insulation
Step 3: Skimming
Step 4: Rip up flooring and install Cat7 to use as Masterlink (no pic this time :)
Step 5: Paint and the result
Once i have some more £££ i will buy a nice black gloss sideboard that can sit in the alcove and the 9300 can sit on top of it hiding the socket and the cable input backbox
its been a long week but its all done

Ups, seems like the UI had some kind of lag once i tried to post.
Wow I thought I had loads of replies, it has been a busy two weeks, they are a little un able to take the music that I play at a loud volume but I think a lab 11 will be on the cards for the future as it will cut the bass to the lab 12's.
The design has been planned down to a T, the tweeter is at my ear height :)
Yendys:Great project and looks very well planned. Love the fact a classic product like the 9300 works in well with the new BLs. Will look great on a black sideboard
Hi there
Yeah a nice black gloss sideboard in both alcoves one for the 9300 and the other for hidden shoes.
In my opinion the 9300 or the 9000 range is the most futuristic looking product I have seen In years, it still looks futuristic even now in 2012.
Tomorrow I need to make a ariel cable for the radio and it's done.
the alcoves amplify the sound.
Veeery nice
I'm looking forward to see it when it's finished.

Exactly. Those old JJ designs are timeless.
Very well done. Enjoy your set-up.

Yes, that's the force of Bang & Olufsen !
Even a very modern speaker with new connections and new acoustic model can works with an 80's product.
Congratulations !
Exactly how B&O stuff should be installed, very nice :)
Olly
High,
that looks very good, phantastic job
I am thinking about replacing my old Beovox 4500/5000 with new Beolab 12-2/12-3. Do you have any experience about the comparision between these vintage loudspeakers and the present Beolab 12?

Hi All,
This is a very nice project Seanie_230.
I'm sure you will not be disappointed at all with your new speakers. They look great on the wall!
recently I've added a BL11 to my BL12-3 speakers. Just for more body to the sound, a subtile bass and great performance of the speakers.
This is my first post here on this forum (following this site for a long time) and I also want you to show my new BL12-3's in my setup in the livingroom.
Greeting,
Beofan53
Here is the picture.
Not the best (taken with my phone, but just for the impression).

Thank you so much for your kind words, did you also feel that a lab 11 was needed. Mine are in my "music room" and when I play modern pop music like rihanna with hefty bass they cannot Handle the volume as the bass causes the speakers to have an orange light when playing at volume. I'm thinking a lab 11 will remove some bass from the speakers and improve this.
Seanie all looking great!
OMG BeoFan, i'm loving the BV10 with the orange WOW!!!
Hi Seanie_230,
Before this configuration of speakers I owned a par of BL8000 (MK1) and a BL2.
The BL2 was too much present and I found it not the exact speaker for music (too slow, too overwhelming and too much boemboem). Just for movies great, but I listen more to music.
Therofore I decided to change the speakers with BL12-3. A great design and sound.
Mostly I play (modern)jazz and popmusic and I missed some details.
Now with the BL11 the sound is warmer,, goes deeper, and more details from the BL12-3.
The BL12-3's are playing great, even on higher volume and now with a tight bass!
I think for your music the BL11 is a great addition.
Try to test one from your dealer (and play on a higher volume with your music. Probably the orange led is gone).
Succes with your project!
Thanx!
I have also a blue front for the BV10, but I like this one more.
It just gives some color to the livingroom. . . .
Hi,
I now have some BL4000-speakers (silver, aluminium) for the back (surround). Great speakers, but for the design and the ALT technology and the sound (not heard them already but the have almost the same specs as the BL12-3) I want to swap them with smaller BL12's.
I'm planning (end of the year) to change them with BL12-2 or even the BL12-1 (if this one will ever come).
Just a complete and adjusted surround sound system and also very good for speaker-4 playback.
From somebody that can't even construct an Airfix model, big respect. You won't regret getting the Beolab 11 either. I infrequently turn it off just to hear my 10-46, and it is the extra ingredient that makes for a great duo.
Regards and coming to a county near you soon, Chris

Hi ll, after a few agonising weeks I have decided that the lab 12-3 is just not good enough for my music room. Has anyone ever returned an item?
On Saturday my friends said can you turn the music up and I said embarrassingly no they will not go any higher, I think I will get some KEF XQ40's and run them from the 9300.
So but I cannot justify these speakers cost when they don't deliver.
Im really unhappy with them and should not need to add a subwoofer so the speakers can play loud music.
So one of the big tracks is David guerra titanium and othe 9300 it's all flat.
I am going to trial some passive speakers from B and......W.
I hope the beocenter Amp can drive them well enough, I think if I tried the lab 11 I would be really unhappy if it made them excellent as I would hae to buy one.
I'm afraid you're in for a big disappointment, if you expect a 9300 with any passive speakers to be louder than a pair of BL12s!

Seanie_230:So one of the big tracks is David guerra titanium
I played the same track on my lab1's with lab 2- same experience. Its flat and lackluster and it is not my speakers, Either it is badly recorded or we both have bad cd's
It's not the flat sounds it's the fact that when playing it at any volume the speakers cannot play this music without going into orange state.
I did originally look into lab 1's but they are so to huge.
I think I will try a lab 11 to hear the difference but spending an extra 1500 on one is not an optio when I could get a set of Passives and an amp for 2000
I don't find this track flat sounding! I'm affraid speaking from experience, I find B&O just too refined and smooth for my dance music taste. I find their sound elegant & refined but not fun if that makes any sense? Great for classical & jazz etc but too flat for dance. If it was a person, it would be a real elegant, refined, cultured but very OLD Lady! Just not hip! Just a bit Radio 2 and.. that's NOT GOOD arrhhhh

I am using the bang and olufsen supplied pl to rj45 cable from the shop that they ordered from b and o.
The cable from speaker to speaker is cat6 stp.

Beolab turning into protection (orange) directly at high volume seem to be faulty speakers, as I only go to protection on VERY HIGH volume, and rarely before HOURS of music...

Hay there,
I only have one pl to rj45 cable.
The cat 6 is the correct pin configuration so everything is shielded.
I will however try your idea of connecting them to my beovision so I can eliminate the beocenter just to see. That is a good idea to try, what speakers shall I select in the bv connections menu as bv12 is it there.
I will borrow another b and o cable to test too. Cannot hurt.
I only needed one as I already had a cat 6 sheilded cable. I will go to the shop tomorrow and try and borrow a cable and see if it makes a difference from the beovision and then from the beocenter with 2x powerlink/rj45 cables
I will try tomorrow more investigation as its to late, I just tried with my existing pl cable with coupler but it's hummed so cable was not good enough. Is there a difference between old and new powerlink?
I cannot wait to try tomorrow.
