Hi everyone,

My initial excitement for my A6 has fizzled from setup issues. I have plugged in my A6 to the power, waited the minute, and received the "beep" feedback indicating this is ready for setup. Next step is to go on my iPhone (iOS 9.1) > Settings > Wi-Fi > then select "Set up new AirPlay speaker".

I cannot for the life of me get the option "Set up new AirPlay speaker" to appear. And to answer some possible common questions, yes I am on my home network, have restarted my phone and A6, and restarted my network settings.

They make it seem so simple in the setup video and I would definitely consider myself tech savvy so this is frustrating me. Someone help please! Thanks for your time!

I dont have the A6 but the way prior products work was that they fired up their own wifi network and you connected to thatand then use the beo app to tel it which wifi network to join Nd how.

Thanks for the suggestion jk1002, but I think it's different with the A6. To give a bit more clarity, this video (at the 0:36 mark) shows the "Set up new AirPlay speaker" option, which doesn't show for me at all.

Ok, do you have bluetooth on your iphone? The A6 can not just connect on its own to your home network. It needs to use something to connect to the iphone, maybe its that ...

Hi

Could you not connect it to your router by ethernet cable so you know its on your network and use setup then?

I had a similar problem when I did my first setup.

The "Set up new AirPlay speaker" never appeared. I did a reset of the A6 (used paperclip) and once it rebooted the "Set up new AirPlay speaker" appeared on my iPhone. From thereon it was straight forward.

I have never seen this Setup AirPlay Speaker section in IOS and I have several AirPlay renderers such as Apple TV, Denon, ISP box and a Libratone speaker. That said I have always used the shortest path to setup my AirPlay or BT speakers, I.e. leveraging the access Control Center, by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Next to the Airdrop setup you should see your AirPlay devices.

It is possible also that you are in a peer to peer AirPlay mode if you have not configured yet the A6 on your home wifi network.

It's an option that appear when you have a compatible AirPlay speaker. I does not show in the menus.

Hi Dimitri,

It normally is that simple - as is shown in the Youtube video. However, I had a similar problem with my new A9. This was due to the software being an old version following a software update on the new A9 which obviously was created after my A9 was built. Once I could get it to appear on my iPad, I immediately had to do a software update - and that failed the first time so I had to do it again. Does your phone have the latest update?

I'd power down the A6 for a few minutes, then try again. Try a hard reset of you iPhone, switch wifi off and then on again. These are all the type of things I had to do, then, it suddenly worked.

You may need to go to the Ethernet cable method initially.

Have you looked at the Beoplay FAQ pages? There may be helpful answers there. Alternatively, you can also contact them directly and if necessary, they will phone you back to go through any possible remedies.

Yes, it is frustrating when it doesn't work as they imply. Usually it's quite simple.

It seems to be the way B&O set up the speakers for use with AirPlay. I seem to remember that when I set up my A9.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I will further look into it when I get home from work. A couple questions for anyone who knows in the meantime.

1. How do you know you've reset this device? I tried pressing the reset button in the back and I didn't notice any light/sound feedback.

2. Can anyone confirm if hooking this up via Ethernet works and allows it to be found on my network? I still don't understand how this device is supposed to automatically find and join my home network on it's own for me to connect to via iPhone.

Additionally, to answer some of your questions, yes it connects to Bluetooth but not to AirPlay, yes my iPhone software is up to date, I've reset my iPhone and it's network settings, I've unplugged/plugged my A6 multiple times, Thanks for all your help and suggestions!

Do you have the Beosetup app? If you have - is it seen there by the app?

Do you have the orange light on the A6 following the white lights?

Do you only have the one wifi network at home? The phone and A6 need to be on the same network - this can be an issue if you have wifi sender units as I do!

Press the reset button with a paperclip for around 10 seconds and release. Both lamps will flash white and go to orange flash and you will hear a sound. You are then back to setup mode.

I have not tried the setup from scratch over cable. It will not join your network proior to setup. Thats why you get the Airplay setup prompt.

So I hooked up my A6 to my router via ethernet and set it up perfectly! It then appeared in my AirPlay and everything. You would think that would be the end of my issues, but unfortunately no.

Now, when I select the A6 as an AirPlay device and choose a song to play, it kicks me off immediately. Every time I try to join the speaker it works, but once I play music, it kicks me off and music resumes from my iPhone speakers and never my A6. I uploaded a video for you all to get a better understanding of what I'm talking about. The volume is low on the video so you'll have to turn it up pretty high. As you can see, I try to connect to the A6 three different times and it keeps kicking me off. I'm terribly frustrated right now. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance as always!

That I believe is an Apple and Airplay issue and not the A6.  Have you done a hard restart of your phone?  I've had a similar situation with my Essence and iPad and had to do this hard restart - i.e. when you get the Apple logo at start up.

Have you looked at the Beosetup app yet?

You've made some progress, it's just this last bit to sort out!

Yes I looked at the BeoSetup app, the app paired with an Ethernet cable is how I was able to join the A6 to my network.

I will try a hard restart of my phone once I get home and report back once that's done. The funny thing about this is my mom's old iPhone 5 running iOS 7 was able to successfully stream music via AirPlay, yet my iPhone 6 running the latest software (9.1) is giving me problems.

Thanks Dave and everyone else for your great recommendations! I agree I've made some progress, but this will continue to drive me crazy until it's fully functional. Thanks again!

I think you've hit the nail on the head with the problem - the iPhone's 9.1 software.  I suspect this is a bug which needs to be sorted out by Apple.  It would be interesting to know if other people with this software on an iPhone has the same problem?

Dave (and all else reading this),

I did the hard reset of my iPhone and once I got home to test it, everything worked perfectly! So, for anyone having connectivity issues, I would recommend hard connecting the A6 to your router via Ethernet and setup via the BeoSetup app, then hard reset your iPhone in case you are having further issues. Dave, you and everyone here have been so helpful and I really appreciate your time. Thanks again!

If you'd have done the hard reset of your phone as I originally suggested, you wouldn't have had to go the Ethernet route more than likely. That should have fixed it. I've told B&O previously that this is a fix for some non-connecting faults for products, including the Essence but they will not or have not so far included it on their FAQ page as a potentially easy solution. Not very supportive really and they say it's an Apple issue even though it's a fix for a B&O product!

I'm glad it's sorted and you can now enjoy your new A6. Maybe give us your review of how you're finding it?

Dave,

I'll let my photos speak for themselves by saying this product sounds just as great as it looks Big Smile Honestly this thing is a work of art and the sound is spectacular. I am also an owner of an A8 and I have to say this sounds much better and is much more versatile, both in functionality and physicality. If anyone is on the fence about this, just go for it! You won't regret it one bit. The setup might end up being a pain, but the 24 hours of frustration I had was immediately forgotten once I heard this thing crank out some tunes!

It is growing on me and may do more so when I get to see and hear it.

I can believe it sounds better than the A8. Whet do you think it is comparable with?

Certainly a nice modern twist on the Beosound 1, and a more appealing product to women too.

I guess its nearest competitor is the Beolit 12/15, so it would be nice to know how they compareYes - thumbs up

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Hi there, I'll chime in! I am experiencing the same issue where the A6 appears in my AirPlay menu, but won't play. It behaves like in the OP's video. Interestingly, mine also required a reset prior to the iOS Settings configuration being available. I've tried several of my iOS devices for playback and power cycled the A6 and my entire network. So far Bluetooth will work, but I don't want my first real listen to be over a lossy streaming codec!

I'm glad my issue brought me to this forum! I'll share any outcome I get from contacting H&O support later this week.

Matt
